It wouldn' t run on my machine without the comp mode for some reason. Actualy it would run but the screen would go beyond it' s refresh rate capabilities.. ;/

Sorry for the delay. > right click on your civ3.exe file and select properties. > choose the compatibility tab. >In there choose the Os you want.(win98 for civ3..) Hope this helps

I had a black screen with a bad refresh rate before I did this, not the same problems as yours but it might help. Try the win 98 compatibility mode on civ3.exe

It did help me with big red racing. could play but without sound...

DId you try the compatibility tab? properties on the executable> compatibility) Try set it for win 98. hope this helps

How do you disable the XP built in burning support?

Just bought an IBM ultrastar 1000t/m 160, and I find it VERY silent and of course fast. Before that I had 2 UW IBMs and never had any problem with them. For me the silence factor is important.

I had the same problem once and all I did is install DivX 4. Get it here at http://www.divx.com/ HOpe that helps..

The problem I found with windowsblind is that it was quite buggy, even with win2k..Some refresh problems, windows slower to drag, ect... I always had the impression that the skins were added to windows and not merged with it..(if you know what I mean.. ) Yes it has got the advantage of having a big skinner comunity but I am not sure the concept of ADDING a skin is good, I find WB not well implemented enough... yet.. I was quite happy with Style XP because it is the first skin I tested that completely merged with the OS.NO bugs. Now Sylebuilder is not out yet (it looks promising) but I wonder if luna will have to remain the main theme, or if we will be able to completely change the skin and use patterns (wood, rock , ect...).

Same for me, can' t wait.. At last a non buggy and heavy skin...!

To change the colors you have got to use Style builder (same site) which will be avalable soon in Beta1. The skin is just an example of what you can do with the software.. So we have to wait at worse 1 more week I suppose..

I have tried Windowsblind several times, hoping that it will be optimized and less of a hassle to use.(I know it' s beta, I used it in win2k as well...) I got disapointed each time. I didn' t try the last beta (I gave up). I also found that the skins are not so good quality. I would recommend anyone to have a look at this software: http://www.tgtsoft.com/stylesshots.html They have put online a trial skin, and I can tell you, it is as fast as XP with Luna on, no slowdowns. no bugs nothing.. The software is still in beta but will be available soon.. Have a look.

Are you talking about the 21.83 drivers or the 21.81? I have got the 21.81 installed and still have that problem.

Yes you are right, the themes ,the other applications like the clean sound utility, the voice media payer control, cd labeler, and mp3 to Wma converter are just useless. I just like the fish screensaver (which was available before) and the wooden labirynth ball game(don' t remember the name) which is kind of fun when you want to get your head straight when drunk.. I really expected microsoft to add some new skins (or at least some new luna colors) for the interface.. Disapointed, and I have had enough of the bugged and ugly windowsblind skins. No need to buy that s***.

It works fine for me, I didn' t do anything special, just installed the latest detonators... No compatibility mode.

As far as I know there are no desktop themes (wallpaper, icons, sounds and window color) included in XP. Windows XP plus! pack will offer a cuple of themes like space, nature and so on.. (including mediaplayer skins), but is not free.

Got the same problem after having done a system restore.(I installed easy cd creator 5, which totaly detroyed XP). Tried to roll back graphic drivers,install the latest, no success. The menus sometimes work fine but slow 90% of the time. Any magic trick?

Same as Total Annihilation: Go to the "sounds and audio devices" option in Control Panel and set the "hardware acceleration" to Zero for your sound card..." Hope that helps..

Has anyone succeded to do a webcam conversation with messenger? I tried with some friends of mine and the webcam conversation only works with net-meeting. No success at all with messenger. No sound, nothing... I have zone alarm pro which I disableled (works with net-meeting, zone alarm on), no success... My friends are behind a linux firewall which has been configured to work with net-metting at least. I guess there is not much difference between the way messsenger and net-meeting handle the webcam streaming.. hmm also, I saw somewhere thet there was going to be a fairly large windows update online (today), and especialy some messenger enhancements. Hope this will cut some bugs instead of adding more features.. well.. Thanks for any clues!
