I've got one system to work properly with XP and a FT66, didn't have to load any new drivers or anything, but another system refuses to let me install XP on it with the FT66. It gives me the standard can't find hard drive error in install, no matter what I do. Can't find any XP drivers for FT66 on Promise website. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did you do to remedy it? Thanks........

OK, here's the situation. One box is running W2k AdvSer. I have 2 NIC's in it. One goes to the cable modem, the other goes to a Linksys 5 port switch. Second box is running W2k Pro. It has 1 NIC in it, connected to the switch. I do want to be able to connect more computers to this network in the near future, but just 2 now is fine. First off, is this right? I'm using regular cat5 cable, do any of them need to be crossover cables? Second off, please explain in detail exactly what I have to do in order to get ICS to work correctly.......Totally lost here......lol Thanks in advance for any ideas or help! Problem solved. Complete reinstall, turn off APM and ACPI in the BIOS, and install as standard PC instead of ACPI compatible blah blah blah......Works like a champ now.....

Yeah, I've tried it from every FSB setting from 100-152Mhz with the same results every time....And yes, the PCI is 1/4....hehe Also have tried installing with just the RAID and the VC, and then adding one at a time. Windows just doesn't seem to like the SC and NIC in the same computer here....lol Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Don't feel bad, I also have a GigaBYte MB (6VX-4X) and their "supposed" fix for it with Win2k doesn't work here, either....Been battling this one for about 4 months now.....

WHen I open task manager, I see the CPU is "cycling" between 0% and around 95% at 4-5 second intervals. When I do get a dececnt boot, everything runs great for about 3 hours, then it starts the stuttering again. Have tried the cards in different slots, and it seems to work best with the NIC in the first PCI slot. At my wits end here. Only thing I can think to do is try a different brand of NIC. Any other suggestions?

Well, this router is FAST, easy to configure, and I got it pretty cheap. But here's the problem: Running Win2k Pro on one machine, and I usually run Vermillion FTP on this machine as a ftp server. But now, Vermillion can't pull the IP of the cable modem, only the IP of the NIC, which is 192.168.1.100. So no one can connect to my ftp. Is there anyway around this, or do I have to use something like Dynip?

The switching of the NIC slot seems like a good idea; I'll give that a try. But I thought W2K HAD to have ACPI enabled to function properly? Or is this just yet another MS fairytale......lol

I gotta tell you, I just found this board, and this post is the funniest thing I've seen in quite a while.......

Under a clean install of Pro, I get to the "desktop" portion of the install, and suddenly the computer seems to start "stuttering", as if something is using a huge amount of CPU power. The installation completes, albeit very slowly, and the computer reboots. Everything boots normally, until it gets to the point where it gives you the "Preparing Network Connections", and then the stuttering begins again. Once I log on and bring up the system monitor, I see a cycle of CPU using going from 0-100% over about a 5 second period. If I go to Device Manager, I find that all my PCI cards are using IRQ 9. I've tried rearranging them around, but nothing works. I've got it traced to the NIC and sound card, I think. If I pull one of them out, the system runs great. But it stutters with both cards in. I even tried to set specific IRQ's for each slot in the BIOS, but this BIOS only gives me the option to set an IRQ as PCI or ISA, which is kinda weird, I think..... I have tried to install with only the NIC and video card in the system, and then adding the other cards one at a time. When I install the sound card, I get the stuttering again..... Any ideas? I'm fresh out, and have just about resigned myself to having to run Win98 for the duration of this machine.... HELP!!!!
