I have onboard adaptec AIC-7890/7891 and it works fine. I wonder if a regular Adaptec SCSI 50 pin AVA-2904 Fast PCI Kontroller works in XP. (I need SCSI kontroller if I get nforce)

Can someone report how do they work? -
Wait, it seems to work after all. Well a little anyway. The situation is as this: Before det 4 i used 256 ram and it worked a little (50% of times I play sound I get high pitched screeching noise) Now i use det 4 and 320MB ram and it works a little better (25% of times I play sound I get high pitched screeching noise). System specs Asus P2B-DS (440 BX) 2x P3 800@824 Elsa gladiac Gf2 GTXP

have you tried det 4?

Anyone Have the Problems playing Q2 RA2 under WinXP RTM?!?

phop: "other than that i dont' like the sharing features it has as win2k pro much better i think.. so if anyone has any suggestions or ideas or fixes concerning this issue pls post.." tools -> folder options -> view and disable Use simple file sharing One drawback however is that so you cant have others access your computer except if they use same login/pass as you or you must add them as a user on your computer. It should have worked if one enabled guest access but ach no that didnt work. really wierd many things seems broken in XP! Back to topic, my GTXP broke in builds later than 2505 so it seems something happened there. I guess something had to change, and now hardware vendors must rewrite their drivers to adjust to the changes. But I dont know... Make sure you report all bugs/quirks to microsoft and your hardware vendor. We must sort this out before XP is in the retail chains, or what? -
Contact microsoft about this? If it worked in win2k it should work in XP.There might be something wrong with XP? My problem is the computer wont turn off automatically it just gives me the "its now safe to turn off the computer." As with you it worked in win2k...

When you get a new cdrom these days they tend to be very noisy. Keep that in mind and maybe test them before you buy? Kenwood 52x truex cdrom is very silent, I have the scsi version, its super fast.

Det4 are mostly geforce 3 optimizations. Now finally driver for Gf3 have come out of beta and are being optimized.
-
It fixed it for me too, thanks.

I edit nv4_disp.inf from the drivers and it works great. That way I dont have to edit the registry every time I install win2k/xp Just remove the HZ you dont use, and leave the ones you do. At the bottom you can find what card has which alias

I tried det4 but same result. BTW half life also freezes the system when exiting.
-
Email them back and say you already did all that. That way they might send the error to higher level tech support or something. We have to make sure everything works before winXP is in stores oh yeah!

winxprc2+new geforce3+opengl games=lock up

I too am in the boat of openGL+geforce= problem When I exit openGL games my system hard locks! I have Elsa gladiac geforce 2 (tried lots of different drivers) Asus P2B-DS winXP 2600 I think microsoft changed something in XP and now hardware developers need to update their drivers. this prooves its very important with good driver support! -
Nvidia has excellent win2k/xp drivers for their geforce2 cards.

Ok guys do you like and use WindowsXP and if so why?
Gambler FEX online replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
Ah I see thanks alot, I turned it off immediately. I was wondering how I would share a folder so only I would have full access to it from my 486 with win2k (a server and dont laugh it has lots of ram 24). I like winXP a little more now. Okay back to topic, one thing I also like is it empties the recycle bin immediately instead of waiting 3 secs as it did in win2k. The quick logon time is also very nice. What I dont like is when I shut down, it takes a while then it says "now its safe to turn off your computer". Why dont it turn it off immediately? And my GTXP dont work right either, even after decreasing my ram to 256. Exiting quake 3 sometimes freezes the whole system withouth even a BSOD. -

-

I have tried a lan game with need for speed 2 and similar results, we cant see each other. Seems theres a problem with old games using IPX?
-
I have experienced same thing twice. Its really annoying youre in the middle of a battle and then swop! desktop. I went "wha!" and my friends said "hey your not responding whats up!" and I said "what the!" and ok you get it i see. Make blizzard aware of it and a patch might fix it.

I have this problem in 2600, I click turn off computer and it stops at "its now safe to shut down your compuer" (PS your computer haha not for long first WPA then monthly payments), but it dont shut it down automatically. Other than tsshutdn.exe what can be done?
