I read about these being offered, and wondered if anyone could give me info about them. Basically, it's editions of XP(Pro, server, etc.) WITHOUT the hardware binding feature, for use by corporations. Anyone know 1. If this is true. 2. How much it costs 3. If it's available to consumers. If it IS available, myself and several friends may chip in and purchase the licenses(I have about 40 friends that would like to do this).

My computer was reformatted today after trying XP for a while. W2K right now. the thing won't shut down, or restart after the blue screen for shut down, there's a blinking cursor, and it just stays there with nothing happening. It does this for shut downs, and restarts. any ideas?

I did it worked fine(Mandrake) only thing that didn't work was my modem, and that's not a big deal since it's 1. A Winmodem, 2. Never used. I tried freebsd, but it wasn't bootable, so I wasn't going to play around wiht it

the thing about the SCSI is.. I think I'll get the 3 drives for free...but I don't know if they're any good. they'll have come from an old(but PIII) Optiplex server Should they happen to work, be large enough, and be faster than my UDMA100 setup, then I might just migrate soem stuff over. but will I keep the 45 and 15GB disk I have now? I could replace the UDMA66 30GB drive.. I dunno. I want a drive for Linux--the 15GB would be great for that. I won't have a SCSI card for it, but I'll probably end up getting one of the Adaptec XX160s for it

I plan on emailing MS about it when it gets closer to shipment... And corporate will prevent me from having to crack/wherez/etc. it. I want to have it legitimately, without any hassle. I can't stress that enough.

Corporate version isn't the same as pro you could buy corporate versions of Personal, if you wanted to. The copies are designed for corporations that don't want to have to bind their copies to computers, they want to pop in the CD if something screws up, and it'll run without the registration hassles. But, you've already paid for the license, which is usually priced a little bit higher for this feature. This isn't a corporation that's buying it it's a bunch of(currently about 15 of my friends) 19-21 year old guys that are still in college. I don't mind them tracing it...that's fine with me. and blade? something is asterisked out...what does it say?

I've not had any problems with the beta I always download betas, just to try out the "new features" hell, the IE6 beta's lock bars is something I've wanted for a long time. I format monthly or bi-monthly not out of problems, but usually out of boredom and we all know how fresh systems run a bit faster than older systems oh well I'll get to it later this week...maybe next week. I might be getting a SCSI setup, and if I do, I'll be trading some drives around...

The activation isn't a problem. I'll register it. I just don't want it whining when I change out my parts. Remember, I could just as easily pirate the thing...or get cracks for it. I'm looking for a >legitimate< way to get the OS they want money for, with fewer possibilities for hassles. [This message has been edited by INFERNO2000 (edited 30 March 2001).]

just thought I should mention my 1.1ghz AVHA Tbird(b)is now running at 1400(140x10) at default voltage with no temperature increase from 133x10 thank you I'll take it higher after I break it in at this speed for a week I want to stay at 1.5 and not worry... I saw her once...I wanna see her again Oh..and this is on an A7V133 [This message has been edited by INFERNO2000 (edited 30 March 2001).]

5 license min is not a problem at all it's a matter of the OS NOT having the hardware bind.

I've ran this drive with NTFS for about...oh...a year? I have SP2 isntalled(beta, or RC, don't remember which). I never have any power things on, as I leave my PC on all the time.

I've been using this system for a while. never had this problem I've done several reformats to it; I tend to try to reformat monthly the NIC works fine..Dlink 530TX+ I've used about 7 of these NICS in various ocmputers I've built for myself and others. Very dependable card IT also still operates at a PCI speed of 48 mhz...which not many other cards can claim.

NTFS, yeah, tried everything for shutdown. got nothing ACPI works in this system... oh well I'll reformat and try again.

Got a copy of Whistler Beta 2 this morning after about an hour of downloading... I'm wanting to install it on my good machine, a 1.4 ghz Tbird. i've not played with XP since Beta 1, as I tend to wait for the major beta releases...rather than simple interim builds Beta 2 is out, so it's time to try again...but now they are supposed to have the product binding enabled.... I want to get around that, as I'm one of the people that frequently change their equipment...or reinstall, etc. Is there any way I can install this, and not have to worry about it whining about registration changes, etc.? I hate to say crack it, but...I just don't want to have to worry about it...

Well, I'll be running 2k instead. some problems with it...I'll wait till RC releases. oh well I'll run XP on my LANBOX

-
right now it's on a k6-2 system...which doesn't get it's hardware changed...ever. The PC sucks. But, if you guys can help me, I'd like to uninstall from this system and use it on A REAL system

NOpe gotta disagree with you the Switch operates on the Data Link LAyer, not the Network Layer the Data Link layer deals with Mac Addresses--which is what a switch uses the Network layer deals with IP addresses, which is what routers use and if I'm wrong, then I'm wasting my money on these CISCO Cert courses and this entire past semester(where all we did was study the OSI model) was pointless

I keep getting errors...i8042prt... umm...exceeded maximum number of retries (configurable by registry) this has happened on 3 fresh reinstalls... no other drivers or anything loaded...this idnd't happen before though... AMD 1.x ghz Tbird A7V133 W2k

yeah I want to disable the PS2 in BIOS but how?
-
well..did soem research seems to be for PS2 mice and keyboards my kbd an mouse are both USB....and the keyboard has now PS2 port. any idea how to get rid of these errors? turns out that 2 of the reinstalls are unnecessary now wasted my night

Anyone else notice that when you install the 2k version of the drivers, that you lose the nvidia panel in the advanced properties(for the display)? I can't get into it to do anything I want to(overclock)... and it's ticking me off..I get better performance, but I can't edit anything..like select FSAA, or move my D3d from whatever it is to 255mb.

One problem with the KVM switches is the fact that it's just a PS2 mouse IF you have a mouse that is USB and will only work in 2k with USB(The Razer Boomslang, for example), you can't use the KVM switch for mice or...you can just have a seperate mouse for that computer, and simply not plug the PS2 part into the PC ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up. Will Work For Bandwidth What You Say? All Your Base Are Belong To Us
