1: the company happened to be gimps. They claimed the item never existed. 2: problem is now void I have a Gateway OEM board with an 815 chipset coming(50 bucks), and a CeleryII 633(70) on its way as well. Now, I have to get this board and CPU off my hands so I'm not completely broke. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

just thought I'd end this post properly. Got it. Plugged it in. Played around. Fell in love. I love Trinitron the lines? who cares. that little multimode button over on the left is really nice, brightens up my CS so I can see that bastard CT at the end of the sewer when the lights are out ------------------ My PC is warm. that's really too bad. since I bought this mobo BRAND NEW in....late november. Over Thanksgiving vacation, in fact. no VIA on this motherboard. oh well now I need to find a 440 and a PII or 3 or maybe luck out and find a duallie that'd make a nice LAN rig and as it stands...assuming this company doesn't back out like gimps and actual profane things, I will be getting a 20 GB hdd (5400 RPM but UDMA 66) for 32* bucks shipped....that'd lessen the blow for the money senselessly wasted on a "new" mobo and cpu. *check it out at [h]ardocp ------------------ My PC is warm. It came with the Newest BIOS. I called the place I got it from, and they said they've heard of AGP issues with nvidia cards and basically all the Socket 7 mobo chipsets. I called a local place, just to see what they said...they said it was a problem with incompatiblity with W2k---but it crashed in the BIOS--no OS was ever loaded onto it. Morons I'm either going to sell the Vid card and get something else, which I don't want to do, or sell the mobo and CPU, and try for a PII or P3 system under 600mhz. Anyone here have a 440bx chipset based mobo and CPU in the 400 to 600 mhz area under $100 they would care to sell off? ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

never thought of checking there! Thanks! However, I saw nothing. I should probably put more info in here: This setup failed usually within 3 minutes, but on occasion lasted a bit longer(the first time I switched powersupplies, it went until the first reboot in W2K setup, but on reboot, failed during the memory count). I eventually decided to try setting up 98 on it, and as my disk was in NTFS, I had to use fdisk(my maxtor setup disk crashed too). When it asked me about NTFS, right before I pressed Y for large disk support, the screen popped up with random letters on random spots on the screen. I'm just convinced it's the damned motherboard...but it works with all the other cards I've tried...I'll sell it and see if I can buy a low end PIII system(intel 440 motherboard and PIII 500-600). I know it works on those, as my old Compaq worked fine with it. Stupid AMD. Stupid Gigabyte. Stupid ALI. It seems that all the Socket 7 motherboards have to be stupid my FIC PA2013 that I had before this mobo said that it didn't support V3, TNT2 or beyond, G400, or the MAXX. Now this mobo won't support a GeForce. I'll call the place I bought it from(Gigabyte doesn't have customer service!?!)...see what they say. ------------------ My PC is warm. Out of my 6 external bays(black Supermicro 760-a), all I have is a CDRW and a DVD. I do eventually hope to fill the other bays with harddrives(& coolers), eventually. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I've got a couple friends that have that setup that are running 2k(and beta1 of Whistler). It works fine. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any sites that tell how to hack a Highpoint HPT366 UDMA 66 controller to make it a RAID card? This might sound strange, but I know of many sites showing how to do it with the Promise 66 cards.... So, there's the chance it can be done with this. btw...here's the info from the site. "The EP-USB66 is a complete IDE and USB solution for the most demanding hardware configurations. A combination UltraDMA-66 EIDE controller and Universal Serial Bus (USB) Hub makes the EP-USB66 a superb addition to any PC based system. UltraDMA-66 Controller The UltraDMA-66 portion built using the advanced HPT-366 PCI Host Adapter chip is capable of up to 133 MBytes/sec burst data transfer rates on the PCI Local Bus. The HPT-366 supports a wide range of devices such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, ATAPI CD-ROM, LS-120, Tape and ZIP devices. The controller also of course supports today’s faster UltraDMA-66 hard drives as well as being backwards compatible with UltraDMA-33 and PIO mode transfer rates. The controller has two IDE channels than can support up to two EIDE devices each plus the card can coexist with any EIDE controllers onboard your motherboard. Setup is completely automatic as the card will autodetect the best possible transfer mode for each attached ATAPI or EIDE device. Sustained transfer rates of up to 66 MBytes/sec. Up to 133 MBytes/sec burst data transfer rates on the PCI Local Bus. PCI 2.1 "Plug & Play" compatible. Can coexist with other IDE and SCSI controllers. LBA translation and Extended Int 13 support."

Guys since Napster is going subscription, any good competito
INFERNO2000 replied to pr-man's topic in Software
You're paying for the service napster provides, not the mp3s themselves... but oh well. IRC would be the main choice--people have been doing it for years. and what do you mean CD-quality vs. mp3 quality. Aren't they all the same thing-digital? same recording quality, from what I've seen. as long as you get a good rip, it's usually dificult for the naked ear to tell a BIG difference. ------------------ My PC is warm. be honest. What's wrong with a subscription? I'm not sure how much it costs, but if it were 20 bucks a month, that'd still be very reasonable if you used it... 1 CD vs hundreds to thousands of MP3s. I'm perfectly happy with the idea of it being subscription based. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up. -
Ok..really simple: I'm redoing a computer, and need to replace the current video card. My budget is approximately 100 bucks. I currently have an ATI AIW128, which doesn't give me good performance in games....but the TV part of it is very important to what I'll be using it for. So, I'm looking for a video card with a TV-out(can be S-Video or composite), and TV-in(Svideo or composite). Ideally, I'd like to find a reasonably priced V3 3500, but I can't find any around here, as they've been replaced by V4, V5, or have been discontinued completely because of the 3dfx buyout. Also, a GeForce would be great(either 256 or 2MX)...SDR/DDR doesn't matter as much, since this will be going on a K6-2 450(@500)....my processor will be my limiting factor...which I'd prefer to my vid card being my limiter.... VIVO is what's necessary....a TV-tuner would be great. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I know I just lucked out, sort of. got it on ebay. I got outbid on 2 other cards...so I found this one. bid on it, and won it. However...this morning, I got emails saying the guy that outbid me had retracted his bids, making me the current winner of those items....but I already won this card, so I had to retract the other bids. That really pi$$es me off.

INFERNO2000 replied to oldspice's topic in Software
interesting post I'll wnat to watch this one I have 2 drives: Drive 1: 46GB Maxtor UDMA 100 C through L(exluding D) Drive 2: 15GB IBM UDMA 100 D, M through P varying sizes...the less than 1GB leftoever partitions make good swap space(P), or CD-backup(L) -
acceptably sweet I got a GTS for 138 + shipping so my 256 will be going in the K6-2 box. anyone want a good-as-new used only for a short time ATI AIW128?
-
Used(but in like-new condition) ATI All In Wonder 128 AGP 16mb video card. 100(Pricewatch lists it at 120, Best Buy sells it at 160) comes with all cables, manuals, and driver cds. With the new release of drivers, is FULLY 2K compliant(older versions of drivers lacked TV capture). Great card, bought a GTS and am throwing my 256 in this box. ------------------ My PC is warm. just a crazy thought.. you don't ahve any power saving features or anything enable do you? if you have a Wake On Ring, it might screw things up. but it's just a guess. I disabled everything I have on this PC, since it's on all the time? ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I have a DVD, but don't use it enough to be worried about it. I know the MX would be a step down from the 256 SDR, let alone the DDR. I'll figure out waht to do in 36 hours. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

It's strange how a weekend of research can change things. Here's my new predicament: I've found out that I can buy much better cards if I can sacrifice the TV-out(I can use another one of my cards for that, if I give up gameplay on TVs) I've found Radeon 32mb DDRs and GeForce2MXs for 90 bucks, , a Voodoo5 5500 for 130,and possibly a GeForce2 GTS for 150...the GTS is a longshot at best. now my question is this: With these cards, what should I do? I have a PIII @950mhz that I want to have the best videocard in. (it courrently has a GeForce256DDR) I want the most raw power and FPS I can afford for high resolution and 32bit color. With the exception of the MX, all the cards listed above would be upgrades to this card. Which of the cards, Radeon or V5, would be the better choice? (GTS is a given, and if I can afford it, I'll take it). I'm running W2K on both boxes. ATI and I don't get along very well due to poor drivers. 3dfx is dead...but I know their V5 is a kick@$$ card. Is it worth the extra 40 bucks for a V5, or should I stick with a Radeon(or MX)? ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up. many people say the Abit Kt7a, Asus A7V133, or many others from what I've heard, those are just rechippings of their former variants(swapping out a Kt133 for a Kt133a) there is a new mobo from IWill, that is supposively a brand new design, and is getting high remarks at hardocp's hardforum, and if I were to go with an AMD setup, I'd probably look into that one. ------------------ My PC is warm. I hear you....but I'm going for a Voodoo3. I'll get the FPS I need, the Linux Support I need, and a price I won't be too angry about. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I have 256 and I follow the nvidia line of cards.... I'd love to find an MX with video in...I know I can get a guillemot with TV-out which would cover the main part of my needs... I'll keep looking for a V3 though. It will have better Linux compatibility.. i know the MX outperforms it....but if I can just get 40+ FPS steady, I'd be happy. this AIW 128 is only giving me about 22 average.. ------------------ My PC is warm. I found the monitor and bought it I know how small 1600x1200 is on a monitor, it doesnt bother me I just look at icons anyway, not the text. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

no, this is my normal CRT monitor... I don't know about the trinitron I'm getting...but if there are bad pixels, I'll return it. I saw a Trinitron today, and looked for the lines. I saw them immediately on the white screen, but I honestly don't think I'll be too worried about it...I'll learn to ignore it pretty quickly [This message has been edited by INFERNO2000 (edited 07 February 2001).]

well, I got it 190 after shipping. I've used trinitron monitors before, I never noticed it this 1 has a miscolored pixel. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.
