ok. just another hour till ebay says it's mine and I get a 1 year warranty on it, so I've no reason to be worried ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I think I'm getting a UltraScan 1000HS from dell. It has the Trinitron tube, is flat panel..yada yada yada and, It looks like I may be getting it for under 200 too.

I needed something clever and intelligent to say here to make this post valid and meaningful. Too bad I failed. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

Why is Windows 2000 pro the best OS choice for Internet user
INFERNO2000 replied to pr-man's topic in Slack Space
my Swap file is excessive....but it works. I have one partition of about 800mb that I had nothing better to do, so I just set it for my swap partition.... so I have a 793mb swap there, and a 25mb swap on my C: drive(Adobe Photoshop needs it for osme reason). Again, excessive, but what else would I do with a "small" partition like that? -
how close am I?

I don't! I know Ronin has a better system, and half my friends have faster AMD systems. I know it's not the best---It never was. But it's good enough, and it's better than many. but it's never going to be the proverbial God Box. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

but I like Microsoft Puke green! *wait, no I don't* ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

My problem wasn't about the computer, it was about the presentation of the system. I'd like to have some SCSI in there...but I'm not worried about it. I don't think so highly of my system as to claim supremacy.....my attitude's never been that way, I don't htink. If the post was something along the lines of "here's my computer-you like?", then this post wouldn't have spawned the responses...but since it was "here it is, wipe your drool away"...well...we're on page 4 now. ------------------ My PC is warm. I'd have to say Athlon--you can get a much faster chip out of the box with that than with an intel chip(with a given amount of money). If you buy an AMD, buy a KT133a board such as the Abit Kt7a the 600e may get up to 800(eb). Not biased here--I own a PIII800eb ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I play CS, Q3, and UT. I prefer CS simply because it's not a melee game. I have to value my life and use a bit of strategy before I run out and start firing. UT and Q3 are fun and I've wasted several hours playing and excelling at them. But a redeemer shot from behind, or a railshot from across the map just doesn't compare, to me at least, to what CS has to offer. Quake3, in the final map(CTF version), I've railed a guy about to score a few times to the sound of the announcer saying "Holy Cow". It was nice, and no one believed me(about the "Holy Cow") till I did it again with witnesses. In CS(militia), though, I've AWPed a couple guys, dropped the gun, went to the DE and blasted the other guy that was smart enough to stay out of my crosshairs, stole his MP5, and picked off the 2 stragglers that didn't take the sewer in a matter of 30 seconds or so. Which was more gratifying to me? I'll give you a hint--it didn't have ramps or rocketlaunchers. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I figured out that if you run .bmp instead of .jpg, you can get good backgrounds without having the active desktop service turned on.... So I get the pretty colors without the (minimal) performance hit ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

Anyone who watched the superbowl probably noticed the Eye Vision replays, where it would pan around the stadium from one camera to the next. Does anyone know where I may find software or something else that would allow the same thing for multiple web cameras set up to one computer? Something tells me I'd be looking for security software, but I don't know. Just a question aroused by curiosity, not necessity. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

on two of my computers, this: http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/dbgallery/2/reaper1024.shtml on the third, that picture that has shut down, reset, reset MSDOS,log off, shut down and boot Linux ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

nice GeForce Ultra? 8) damn I hate you oh well...I'm holding out for the NV30 or whatever will be out around this Christmas. As long as I'm pulling over 60FPS, my monitor is the limiting factor, not the card. Anyone know of a flat screen(not flat panel) monitor that does 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 at ABOVE 60hz? Not quite a lab...just an illicet & illegal 8) operation shhhhh. And due to my limited number of peripherals, I can only run 2 at a time anyway... usually the betabox gets tucked in a corner and forgotten about, and I use the two towers.... ------------------ My PC is warm. Since the AMD system back in July, I've built 6 new ones...but only 2 for myself. Including those I've rebuilt and upgraded and stuff like that, then 12(excluding the 6 I've built). UDMA/100 vs. SCSI Ultra160...who cares. Why would I be foolish enough to spend hundreds of extra unnecessary dollars for an improvement that will result in a few extra seconds on bootup? I had my chance to go SCSI, and I passed on it. RAID, give me a half an hour and a soldering iron and my Promise card will be a RAID card. MP3? no those are on CD. Do a few games, and other stuff. I just like being excessive. I had 512MB in it...but I never used enough to warrant the need for anything more than 256. So I sold the rest, and bought betaLANBOX-1 RAMBUS? Fewl. That just PROVES you're a moron. Not you, Ronin--you're damned respectable. And I have no need to bow to you. FEWL. As for the next upgrade, I'm holding out for either the 760mp or the Hammer Series. So, oxide...show your system off. But don't be an @$$ about it...there are many here with systems that exceed yours. Think of those here with 1.2ghz AMDs that have overclocked them. Damn. there's 200 mhz right there. I don't show my system off to brag and wish others would bow to me. Being told "good system" or something like that is enough for me. Many of us here know what is going on in the hardware scene, so you're not impressing us. Maybe talking like that on some yahoo board or something where the collective intellect is down several IQ points would work...but not here. You do that, and you will be shown the same level respect of DavidNewBould, and many others. ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I saw it for that same price--75 bucks--at a local Circuit City, so you're not doing to bad with that. the 5.1 DD was just 85...so it comes out to be about the same,

You could easily run 2K on it. And in all honesty, it'd run very well. NT4 would (probably) be a bad choice, as it's limited in it's hardware support for new equipment(the lack of USB being the key point I'm referring to). your V3 would run perfectly well on it..and if you install DX8a, you should notice very little difference in performance in games-which are graphics intensive, as may be Autocad as well, but I've never used it. Since games AREN't your concern...video performance of a few FPS won't matter to you anyway Go for 2000 ------------------ My PC is warm. I think our fire wall is acting up.

I thought it was AT&T, but also saw Bell. What I'd heard was that one of those companies(the original maker of it) was in trouble and told to stay out of computers for fear of monopolies and stuff. So they gave out the OS, and said have fun, and refused support. and it developed from there. Oh well...I heard that several years ago...and am not sure if it's true or not. Anyway. I like Linux---it has more power than I know what to do with. I like Windows---easy, and relatively straightforward to use. I'll run them both from here on....each competing for my attention.
