found one Allied Telesyn AT-FH716-10A 16 port 10/100 new for 50 bucks

My case has room for an internal 5.25" drive bay..cut out a small piece of the back of the case, mount it there...or mount it in a front drivebay....either way... Rackmount would be excessive.

Oh. ummm... yeah. Whistler Beta1 sucks on a K6-2 450/128MB RAM and an ATI AIW 128. the OS itself is nice...but it's just driver problems. 67 on 3Dmark2000 my other system scored 6500 in Win2k, 8000 in Win98.(Roughly)

I just did it to take up space the quicker we get to page 82, the better

I bought more stuff for my machine. Expansion is down to 2 PCI slots now but I have room for 4 more IDE items. now if only those harddrives Ronin sent me last week would arrive. ------------------ NECESSARY EVIL --Custom Built [H]ard|PC-- <Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1, IE5.5 SP1, DX8> Intel Pentium !!! I reformatted my PC this evening because I was stupid and didn't read the directions to my Promise UDMA 100 controller. Anyway....I reinstalled all my software, and I'm getting a big snag at my Norton software. the Liveupdate that came with it(1.6) was fine. I installe the update to LiveUpdate(1.63), and it stops working..says it can't get out..even though I'm on the internet(else how could I write this?). Any ideaS?

I'm on a T1 line right now...if it was dialup that would be easier.

hmmm...I'm going to buy something, open it up, and return it(after pirated, of course) just to see what a clerk would do. "Excuse me. I'd like to return this. I disagree with the EULA, so I can't legally use this" EULA be damned as far as I'm concerned. I run my pc how I want and use the software how I want. It was formerly property of the owner...but when I put my money in the cashier's hands, it became my property, for me to take the responsibilities for. my EULA? ok you can have it...but get your own key.

I just picked this card up, and planned on using it in a LAN case that will run both Win98SE and Whistler. Just wondering what problems people have noticed with this card in Win2k(since I'll be using those drivers). ------------------ NECESSARY EVIL --Custom Built [H]ard|PC-- <Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1, IE5.5 SP1, DX8> Intel Pentium !!! Nvidia didn't really overtake V3 until TNT2 the V3 would be a much better card than the TNT1

Assuming I have a video card(Voodoo3 3000) with an S-video connector to an RCA cable that is plugged into a television...is it possible to boot up w/o a monitor plugged in, and see the screen on the TV? I hope that makes sense...basically I'm wanting to know if I can take this computer that I'm building to some strangers house that has no computer, plug my S-video into the VCR or TV, and see it immediately, or if I'll need a monitor as well.
-
just thought I'd update. I ended up getting an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 for the same price as the V3.. I plugged the composite into a tv, booted, and it worked fine

I apologize...you're right about the turtles....I got them confused with another card....I have no experience with anything "new" other than my pre-5.1 SBLive and an obsolete when in my new computer Diamond S90 Vortex 1 I'd heard that the turtles were expensive...aroudn the 2 to 3 hundred dollar range....That was a different card, but the Turtle was mentioned in that post as well. SImple mistake

Looking for an ATI Video card with S-video 8MB or higher
INFERNO2000 posted a topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
I'm looking either for an AGP video card with TV-out and cable, or Svideo(the 4-pin) on the card.... or a replacement cable for the ATI Rage LT PRO(the 7 pin to 4 pin that came with it) -
I'll say Intel for the compatibility with 2K forward looking design? Either. they'll both be replaced within a year. the P4 will go Northbrook(?) within a few months... and the Athlons will give way to the Hammers... Either one will be fine for your needs...

Anyone happen to read sunday's Foxtrot comic? abnormally funny...

Hehe, nice, now how do I convert from NTFS back to FAT32?
INFERNO2000 replied to Draftsman's topic in Software
fdisk then format c:/s it's like those spikes in the road...go one way and you're fine, back up and you blow your tires. -
I plan on having 2 computers hooked to 1 monitor. I plan on doing this this way: My PIII system has a WinTV GO. There is a VIDEO-IN(RCA) on it. My K6-2 system will (hopefully) have an ATI RAGE FURY video card, which has an S-Video, and I believe a Video-out(RCA)(if not, I have an S-Video to RCA video that will work). I plan on hooking the K6-2's video card to the video in on my WinTV, then I can view my K6-2 on my PIII's monitor(in tv mode, I'll get full screen) by switching from Cable to Vid. I could then view both computers at the same time, kind of like picture in picture tvs...or I can make it fullscreen, and see my K6-2 as though this monitor were hooked to that computer. Can anyone tell me any reasons why this wouldn't work? ------------------ NECESSARY EVIL --Custom Built [H]ard|PC-- <Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1, IE5.5 SP1, DX8> Intel Pentium III Coppermine(FCPGA 370) 800eb @ 954 (with an original ThermalTake Golden Orb heatsink) Asus CUSL2 motherboard(no onboard sound)Rev 1.02 BIOS; rev 1004.003 (Beta) 256MB PC133 SDRAM (1x256 Mushkin Rev2 CAS 2:2:2 5t/7t STRONG @ 159mhz) SuperMicro 760A Full Tower(Modded for more fans and painted Rustoleum Hammered Black) SP301-RA 300W Athlon Approved Redundant Cooling Power Supply IBM15-7 15GB UDMA/100 7200RPM hdd & 30GB MAXTOR Diamand Max UDMA/66 7200 RPM hdd 7 80mm,3 92mm, and 2 120mm High Output fans(along with 2 80mm in Power Supply, CPU, and GeForce fans) spewing out well over 1000 CFM Creative Labs SB Live! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! have to keep the post alive.. no one said anything for 2 days

easiest thing to do is refer to Whistler as 2001, like MS did at Comdex

what's so funny about it?

If the Crush by nVidia works out well, I might jump back on the AMD side of the fence. That'd be really sweet No VIA, and <GARAUNTEED COMPATIBILITY WITH NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARDS> Even the onboard MX might be nice Good for you! Glad to hear you had no problems...but since I did...I'm enjoying my intel....and plan on doing so until early 2002 maybe by then, the P4 will be matured...in the 2ghz (if not higher) area...and AMD will have their Sledgehammer or Clawhammers out.... I'll be able to pick the 64bit CPU I want
