    Celery 2 rocks!

Anyone who willingly and intentionally buys a cyrix should be shot. I think AMD and intel users alike can agree on that one? No excuses here. PIII CuMine. K6-2 for my portable PC(mobo and cpu cheaper than a Cel2 566)

    vga to tv-out(S-video)?

I just got a new {Inno3d Tornado) GeForce2 MX with dual monitor support($55 including shipping)..and I was was wondering if I can get an adapter to go from one of the VGA ports to an svideo? It doesn't come with a native tv-out...but I kind of wanted to have it.

    Remove Icon Names..

it's and idea, but I'll still have that block of background color... I just want the icon only. Is it possible?

    Intel ? or AMD

Purchased by? VIA! Let's see. Via Apollo Pro Via KX 133 Via KT 133 Via Cyrix Do we see a pattern here? All of these perform sub-standardly in comparison to intel variants(Ok..the KX and KT are Athlon only...so ignore those), or tend to be problematic with current hardware(such as the nVidia cards)
  5. Anyone know of any CHEAP motherboards that are fully integrated(sound, video), that use a a Socket370 Celeron2 in MicroATX form? I'm doing a little experiment, and want as much as possible to be incoprporated onto the motherboard...but I need at least: 1 AGP slot, 2 PCI, and maybe an ISA..I don't reall ycare, plus USB and PS2 ports...all for under 60 bucks(ebay..but I need to know what to look for)

    Log in as?

I meant without setting your own account for example, I want to know if I can go to some users computer where I do not have a profile(and don't want one on there), and need to access my PC for one reason or another.... with 2k, you have to log in as a person...so I need to know how to do that(without programs).

Fully integrated Socket 370 Celeron Motherboard?

I ended up getting a good deal on an AMD k6-2 450 and motherboard..came out to the price of a new CeleronII 566.

    Celery 2 rocks!

I just acquired a K6-2 450 system with a motherboard for 75 bucks. What would this be comparable to in the intel lineup? (I'm not overly familiar with the intel vs. AMD of 2 years ago)

    Intel ? or AMD

300W Powersupply and 5 fans. It kept my Intel at 80some degrees, and my Athlon at around 90some. Athlons just run hotter. If you go with 3dfx or (god help us)ATI or something NOT nvidia based, you'll have more luck with AMD and Win2k than I did. I'm not sure about the AMD Win2k patch, as unless it came out between the end of July and the end of August, I never installed it. Intel tends to be "safer" but you pay more for that "luxury". Either way, you're going to be happy. If you get a Cyrix though, I will hunt you down. But I want a cyrix...just to play with and be able to laugh at the jokes..oh well.

    Celery 2 rocks!

Most of the people here know how to do it properly And there are times when it just won't work. PERIOD. My AMD experience was that way, and I KNOW how to build a system. I've done it many many times, and the AMD system was the only one EVER that has caused me problems. This goes from my old 386, to my 486, to the p1 100, to a PIII 500, Athlon 750, and PIII 800eb. And those are just MY MACHINES. I've redone about 20 other different computers as well, all of which were intel based however. the AMD was the only problematic system...so what does this make me feel? Intel may have bad issues such as the MTH, the 1.13 ghz.. But...overall (around this campus and with all the PCs I've dealt with) there are SIGNIFICANTLY fewer problems with intel cpu systems than with AMD. CS is beneath your system? BS. The better the system, the more reason to play CS. as for UT...screw it. It was built poorly, and doesn't take full advantage of a video card. It's sad that a PIII 600 with a Voodoo3 and a PIII 800 with a GeFOrce post similar FPS... Take that into Quake3, where a video card gets used....and you notice a difference. Halflife/Counterstrike maxes out for most people around 60 fps, due to the Zbuffer if I'm not mistaken...so the faster and better the video card and cpu, not always the better. Just let it go. People buy what they buy for their own reasons. I bought an AMD becuase I wanted to. I bought an Intel because the AMD made me have to. A guys gotta do what a guys gotta do. And my money will go to Intel and Mushkin until I feel that AMD will suit my needs and not crash. ------------------ NECESSARY EVIL --Custom Built PC-- <Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1> Intel Pentium III Coppermine(FCPGA 370) 800eb @ 954 (with ThermalTake Golden Orb heatsink) Asus CUSL2 motherboard(no onboard sound)Rev 1.02 BIOS rev 1003.004 Beta 256MB PC133 SDRAM (1x256 Mushkin Rev2 CAS 2:2:2) SuperMicro 760A Full Tower(Modded for more fans and Painted Rustoleum Hammered Black) SP301-RA 300W Athlon Approved Redundant Cooling Power Supply IBM15-7 15GB UDMA/100 7200RPM hdd & 30GB MAXTOR Diamand Max UDMA/66 7200 RPM hdd 7 80mm,3 92mm, and 2 120mm High Output fans(along with 2 80mm in Power Supply, CPU, and GeForce fans) spewing out well over 1000 CFM Creative Labs SB Live! Removing history items, I guess?

I'm tired of looking at items that I typed out months ago... Is there a way I can remove the entries that pop up on webpages(say if I search for motherboard on ebay, come back weeks later, and type "M", it will bring that up)? I just want to start over...kind of like clearing its history.

    Intel ? or AMD

I tried all the new drivers, and even the old drivers...and my Asus K7V just kept crashing. It is unfortunate that a person pays hundreds more for fewer mhz with Intel... But sometimes, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do, right?

    2k and 2k Adv. Server

Through my experience, Advanced Server tends to give the illusion of things running more quickly... However, I have most of the services cut down to Professional Level. I just use Adv Ser now for it's Terminal Services so I can play Counterstrike and Quake games on computers in the ACS Lab Advanced Server's startup is shades of blue, as opposed to Pro's multicolored picture. Not that it's an important difference...I just really hate yellow You'd be getting 2000. And that's all that is important. Intel ? or AMD

you might not like this recomendation, and I might get flamed for it..but here goes. I had your same basic setup. PIII 500 with 128 RAM. I built the K7V /Athlon 750 system, ran Win2kAdvSer with a GeForce, and had it crash all the time. It wasn't a matter of poor setup, I had to reformat several times...and none of my setups yielded me a stable PC. I rebuilt...this time with Intel asus cusl2 with 800eb (oc to 954) unparalleled performance in Windows 2000 Advanced Server(And I've got a guy running an AMD in the gigahertz range to compare myself to).. Couple that combo with some Mushkin REV 2 PC133 RAM, and you will have one of the best performing systems available. AMD may give you better results in some apps, and run faster in others, etc...but you'll end up with a VIA chipset..which can either work or not work. Since you have an SBLIVE and an NVidia based card...it's a risk you need to be aware of. If you have the money, go with the intel systems(i815e based motherboard), but if you're on a budget, want a lot of fast stuff at a decent price, and have patience to track down bugs and reboot from bluescreens(if your luck is as good as mine), go with AMD. 2k is an intel OS, if you ask me.

    Celery 2 rocks!

Now you're sounding less like an ass, and more like a guy with an informed opinion. I won't deny that Intel's business practices are lacking(recalls), and their losing the CPU race... AMD makes a great chip. Fast, cheap, and a pleasure to have in most systems. Most of the students with new PCS have AMDs. The guy I mentioned in the next room? there are 3 or 4 AMD CPU systems over there, and only 1 Intel. He's had good luck with his system. I had crashes all the time(VIA and nvidia in W2K bad for everyone not keeping score)...so I regretlessly went intel. (Released) Intel CPUs can't be beaten as far as stability goes...no matter what is said(ignoring the 1.13ghz chips ) There is one race that AMD is lacking behind in, and that's the SMP support. Granted, AMD is releasing an SMP chipset, which might be great...but in that Arena, (as well as the Q3 Arena) intel wins hands down(if only for experience and compatibility). AMD will have 1 chipset to play with, while intel has several chipsets to choose from(440, SIS, 840, etc.) Rambus can kiss my ass. Mushkin PC133 Rev2 will surpass anything RAMBUS. Oh..and as for voting...I'll pencil in Jesse Ventura...and if I can't do that, I'll just go for Bush. It's either an idiot, or someone tarnished by 8 years of Clinton. Either way, these next 4 years will suck ass.

    Celery 2 rocks!

92? that's all? damn you suck! I have a GeForce 1, and a PIII 800eb, and I STILL GET OVER 100 FPS! your system must really suck ass. And about Cel2 users paying a little for a faster CPU, what the hell is wrong with that? I thought that's the point of overclocking--get the cheaper cpu, and make it perform like a more expensive cpu. And as for Celeron Owners...aren't they the more intelligent group? They realize their cpus are handicapped PIIIs, and remove most of the handicap(the 128k cache versus 256 can't be fixed) by overclocking. If I have to choose between a Duron and Cel2, I'll pick a Cel2 because 1: It will PI$$ YOUR STUPID @SS OFF 2: Intels outperform AMDs in Win2k(THEY WORK!) 3: I KNOW a Cel2 will overclock and be a good CPU for me. Durons...same story as my old Athlon system. Bound to VIA's crap

    Celery 2 rocks!

I'm building a briefcase pc for LAN parties..and I had a choise between a Cel2 for about 70 bucks, or a Duron for the same price, and a bit faster. However, it's not just a matter of CPU. It's also a matter of Chipsets. I can go either Intel or VIA for the Cel2, or VIA or VIA for the Duron. I've played with VIA on the AMD side with my old K7V. The thing was a nightmare in Win2k...it wouldn't support NTFS, and crashed daily several times. I went to an intel lineup(CUSL2) and an 800eb. Based purely on the fact that this computer never gets rebooted due to a crash, but rather due to Windows updates coming out, I will go with intel & intel over intel &via, or AMD & VIA. I did not lose out on anything by going intel. My friend on the other side of the wall has a Thunderbird 700 OCed to 900. I have an 800eb at 900. He has a Voodoo5, and I ahve a Geforce256DDR. By all rights, his computer should blow mine away in games and stuff, am I right? My scores in 3dmark2000 ALMOST DOUBLE HIS.(We use the same amount and type of ram--he has 2 128 Mushkin CAS2, and I have 1 256 Mushkin CAS2(rev2)) So for that, I'll say Intel stomps AMD. But that is a bad example, because the video cards are different.(though his should still beat mine) If you got a Celery2, good for you. Wanna overclock it? Have fun, if you're like me you'll reach a hardware limit before you'll reach a CPU limit(at 159:159:39, I run, but faster and I lose my UDMA100 harddrive controllers). If you happen to have AMD, good for you. Great performance, better price than what I paid, but you might experience instability like I did. Don't give a guy a hard time because he chose the chip he did and is happy with it? I had a PIII 500 in a COMPAQ, and was happier with its performance than I was with my custom Athlon 750...just because the PIII would STAY UP FOR WEEKS, rather than hours. Oh...and for the briefcase, I'm looking at an 810e or 440 with onboard video(the 440 has obv and an AGP) and sound and a Celeron 400 or better. Why? because it doesn't matter if I get hundreds of FPS in games...This is just a fun little project for me.
