Does a Commodore 64 count as a first computer? If so, put me down wiht that(With the Atari keyboard so I could play pacman) Otherwise, Packard Bell 386/25 with 2 MB RAM and a 125MB hdd (Incidentally, my parents then moved 3 years later to a Packard Bell P1/100 with 16MB RAM and a 1GB drive, then a Hewlett Packard Athlon 700 this year...So many Packards, so little...whatever)

This drivel is inappropriate for this room SHS or Phillip? Move this to "Other" Please. And as for you, David, the reason we can't and won't is because of what you're saying. Who gives a damn about 9x or 2k. That's your mistake, or decision. Leave us, and this forum, alone if you have nothing meaningful to say.

I'm looking at doing away with 2 computers, and just souping up my Cusl2/800eb...and I'll need a new case for the additional IDE parts. I've convinced myself to get a SuperMicro 760A...as I've read good reviews about it's little brother, the 750, and it will suit my needs and allow plenty of cooling options. I'm asking for any comments that you can give me...anything that might be useful, or any recommendations on a case I might find for under $150

Got another Question: This has the System Intrusion switch, but I see nothing to keep it set? What did everyone do to keep the switch closed? -
I already did But Rackmounts cost too much...although I would definitely take one My case right now is black, and having 2 different colored cdroms, plus a different looking floppy... I'm getting a black floppy... But the CDROMS are staying... Any recomendations on paint? I need it to paint metal and plastic. I've thought about the Testor's Model Spray paint that I used years ago to paint those model airplanes...I know it works well on metal, plastic, and wood...but I also have thought about the paint my parents used to paint the railing outside our old house black...I used it to paint the frame to my ALICE pack, and it worked really well. and as for why black? Because this case looks pretty damned nice And if nothing else, this is my hobby..not enough new airplane models to satisfy my urges I'm also looking into case badges... the Square will have the Powered By Asus Pegasus....but I'm also wanting an Intel Inside, an Evil Inside, and maybe something that warns little kitties and kiddies to stay away(I'm looking at over 500 CFM ) Any recommendations on sites that show modded cases?

Good No problems to worry about then What do you think? Contrasting buttons--good or bad?
-
Nothing.... nothing at all. Just wondering. Wait. Maybe one thing: Are you one of the competent techies, or one of the ones I would speak to when I call Compaq for their POS

hey JD... Is your name James Dulmage? I've seen a few posts by a guy named that in that tech stories thing several posts down.

ok...I'm tired of this. F*ck You if you don't want Win2k. Stay off this board or go to the Win9x forum within the board. Many, if not all of us, had the b@lls to go to an NT system from 9x, or stayed with NT and are very happy with this system. A few of us were idiots that though 2000 was the next 9x(which it should be, as well as this runs). Some more of us found problems and ran away completely from W2k. Most of us decided to Dual boot and have the best of both worlds..after all..if it doesn't work, spend 3 minutes of your life going into 9x or 2k. Then there are those die-hard 2k enthusiasts such as myself that not only are using W2k as our sole OS(excluding Unix based OSes), but even went out and upgraded our computers to be able to enjoy it(and of course, games) more. We made the decision, and we're sticking to our decisions. My Win2k isn't in a bin, both(Prof and Advanced Server) Master CDs are in a DVD case locked up so as to not be damaged. Conversely, My 9x was used for target practice with my .22 rifle when W2k got working.(Plus it was first edition ) As for windows running faster? yeah it might at the beginning...but wait a few days and see which OS is faster(I'll give you a hint. 9x will be from 80 or so free resources to 30). Win2k is for the long haul, not the daily rebooters. Now stop writing crap about this fantastic OS in a legitimate forum. If you don't like it, post this in Other, or 9x. SHS or Phillips? Please move this to an appropriate forum. This is not the place for whining about an OS...it's for whining about Creative and HP and anything else [This message has been edited by INFERNO2000 (edited 04 October 2000).] -

Doesn't the Pentium IV requre a new form factor? This case has lasted that long and is still that expensive, that tells me something. It's a good case. It's made it's second iteration...but outwardly it is the same. I'll be happy with it -

The case has been out since 98. It's obsolete. the PIII 800eb was obsolete when the 850 came out...months ago. my 6x DVD was obsolete last year when I got it with my Compaq my 4x2x24 was inferior to the 4x4x24 when I bought it. the 256 chip of PC133 ram is inferior to 512 and RDRAM and DDRAM. My video card is obsolete to GeForce 2 GTS and Ultras My Live card has been out for months... Everything is obsolete, except my motherboard(I know of no single processor motherboard based off the 815e that beats teh CUSL2). I'm not looking for top of the line...I'm looking for longevity....I want this motherboard for another year...adn between overclocking and new processors, I think I'm set until next summer. And fanbuses just look bad half the time. I'll just keep my fans on all the time, like I do now. -

Here's how my system is intended to be: Motherboard Lots of fans ipanel 3 harddrives 3 cdrom drives 1 floppy and room for a fanbus. I don't have that with my case...I only have 4 5.25...so between cdroms and ipanel, it's filled. Where does my fanbus go? I'll need a UDMA 100 controller card for the cd rom drives probably... depending on how I want to set everything up... and if I get my Athlon system sold, I'll only have 2 cd roms. -

I can agree with that. But whenever I leave my computer alone for a minute, it BSODS on me. Of course, that's because I've got a BSOD screensaver, so that doesn't count Seriously though...if you're afraid of your computer, or the thought of researching and any other daunting studying tasks bothers you, you're probably better off with Win98. My parents are, because they want their computer to be left alone(Brandon, stop touching that thing!). Their P100 Packard Bell ran Win95 without format for 4 years..until I decided over the summer that it needed to be redone, because it was slow, bloated, and filled with partial files that were not uninstalled properly. Windows 2000 is overkill for them...and it may be overkill for this a$$hole as well. But just because he has a $hitty setup, doesn't mean that bashing the competent Win2k users is necessary. So he has a POS computer that he wants to run a POS OS on. fine! WE all know how many Mac users there are out there that don't understand that computers are machines. Not (eye) candy. They're supposed to look mean and menacing, and scary...This is what a computer is SUPPOSED to look like: http://www.hardocp.com/stuff/qcon2kcases/pic10.html Not some purple thing shaped like a monitor with no floppy drive(I hate them, but I don't want an external one). Compaq and HP and all the other translucent computer makers have it all wrong...or maybe they don't. The kind of person that would use and need Win2k would rather have the [H]ARD computer than something that looks purty over by the desk, am I right? The kind of person that wants 98(Or, God help us, ME(the os, not the person))...is also the kind of person that goes out to BestBuy(my mall ) and gets one of them thair newfangled HPs or Compaqs( the ones that have the quick removeable CD Drives that to reinstall everything requires voiding the warranty ). Or, they are a diehard DOS gamer, or are victim to some really stupid companies not seeing the light. Somehow, I get the feeling that this *****************ing **************** is one of the former. Dual boot if necessary..but no one should do less than that. Oh well. My rant is over. -

I think I might be getting an AT(150 or better) power supply along with the ATX 300, and use that just for fans and the such(neon lights, bells and whistles, and a cappucino maker) -

Quick question: This has a nonremoveable motherboard tray...how do I install it onto the board(don't say screw it in--I realize that)? Is there some way I can remove it(by screws) and install it more easily? My main concern is the points closest to the PCI slots...which are hard to impossible to install with the washers(yes I use them). -

I'm wondering if it's possible to set up 2 video cards, and ATI Xpert XL PCI and an Nvidia GeForce DDR in Windows 2000, in such a way that I can run all my windows applications on my 17" monitor(plugged into my GeForce), and have WinTV running on my 14" monitor(plugged into my Xpert). I would need to do this using different resolutions..800x600 with my Xpert, and 1280x 1024 with my GeForce. Is this possible to setup? System resources is not a problem...I have enough PCI slots, and Memory to run everything properly. I'm just wondering about limitations of software.

I'll practice my Bob and Tom ebonics. Man, F*ck You! translated: Win98? You moron! Win98 is for mommy and daddy, because they are afraid of their computer. As for [censored]...it's easy enough to find no matter what(c:\Steve\Cardinal\flight logs\miss_felatio.jpg)...especially when you're installing Napster or Scour(found my dad's secret stash!)....and besides..why download it anyway and risk it? It's easier to just go online to a good spot and get updated ones anyway. Not that I do...just that I knew and used the tricks years ago. I formatted my harddrive and went to Win98 the other day. within 6 hours, my Explorer.exe got corrupted by a download from MS, and had to reformat. My win2k has been up and running flawlessly(on intel systems) from day one of getting the OS(Athlon excluded....stupid VIA Win2k Nvidia thing). But hey. you may use your outdated OS....your inferior memory management. hell. even jump to ME if you want. We'll not hate you for your decision. Just the fact that you are an idiot(and if anyone knows an idiot, it's me). And...my Athlon 750 booting into WinME takes 5 seconds longer than my PIII 800eb instaling Win2k. Me is supposed to be the fast OS too. Oh...just for ****s and giggles..when this was dualbooted, my 3dmark scores were better in Win2k
