Overclocking a PIII 500 Katmai--curious as to predicted resu

Nah...maybe a dual boot...but I doubt it...I'm wanting this strictly for 9x...it's my travel PC(LAN PC ). I have my 800eb and cusl2 for my 2000 needs and desires. -
the backup isn't necessary so long as you intend on staying with SP1....I never create backups... you should be able to safely delete the backup..but wait until someone else confirms it...I don't want to be responsible if your system goes screwy
-
Asus CUSL2. Definitely.
-
This happens to me only when it has an error on boot(see also my pressing the power button because I hit restart instead of shut down). If you go into your bios, it will usually say something about your CPU in red. Dismiss it, and restart, and it's back to normal

that's fine. but I AM THE BURGER KING
-
...By The Power of Greyskull...I HAVE THE POWER!!.. Why? Because I AM THE BURGER KING!!!

get ICQ2000b beta. lots of improvements with it. but it's not really a hog... you need more ram more than anything else...(at least, unless you can upgrade your processor)

Have you ever been soooo Riled up, you just wanna....

My beef isn't with Creative Labs... I've honestly had no trouble with any of my hardware, with the exception of my Logitech Camera, which has been dealt with. In fact, Creative Labs runs 2 parts in my PC..my SB Live! and my Annhilator Pro, and I've been more than impressed with the performance with both pieces in Win2k. In fact, it was DIAMOND that screwed me over with their parts....their S540Xtreme would crash my computer while using IE(or WE)...but the GeForce fixed that. I've since been using Nvidia Reference Drivers(if leaked)..but still use the AGP Wizard to enable side band addressing(too bad the CUSL2 doesn't do 4x Fast Writes). My Sound Blaster still continues to blow my ears away in Half Life(I love EAX, but my speakers hate the power I try to run through them ). But as I do feel like bashing someone...and Windows not only recognized my HP printer, it even prints things backwards so they're ready to be stapled immediately(no 9x Shuffle)...which leaves me with only 1 major company....... But bashing this company is like kicking a dying dog while it's down and rotten and dead already with steel toed boots (how do you like that analogy??). Have we guess who it is? Not Packard Bell...they're gone(I think). COMPAQ!!! They refuse to acknowledge Win2k's existence and use in Presario computers...and will not issue drivers for their keyboards for Presarios(though Win2k is supported by Prosignia PC's using the same keyboard). However, I was able to go from 98 to Win2k effortlessly, only losing my CD writing software(NTI CD Maker) and Norton AV 5. Yet...and here's the real kicker. Compaq's modem(listed as a Rockwell HCF 56K) has drivers in Windows 2000 to run it...but not in 98SE...the very OS they claim to support exclusively. Oh well. As for CL...look at it this way: They're not pulling any proprietary bull****. They're not saying you HAVE to use their equipment(although their market share leaves little true competition now that A3d is belly-up(and bought by CL if I recall correctly?)). I could be mistaken...but aren't all CL soundcards natively supported by Windows 2000? my SBLIVE was recognized out ot the box...are older ones recognized(and functional)? As for lowest support...I remember reading a post about some zip-like hardware that the company completely gave up on developing drivers...throwing in the towel, sticking their tails between their legs, and screaming to the world "We don't know what the f*ck we're doing. We want our Mommies"(Really...I heard it down the street j/k). Oh, and Ekstreme? If you're just tossing it in the trash, can you rescue it for me? I mean..if you think it's worthless...you won't mind if I offer you just shipping, would you? Diamond is dead...so my S90(already legacy when Compaq through it in my new pc a year ago) will forever be legacy only. -

I just reinstalled the i815e chipset drivers, security patch, and Ultra ATA drivers (thought they might be new versions)...and it crashed in the middle of it...so, fuck I thought. repaired Windows 2000... installed them again(I don't learn quickly), and now my IDE hdds are listed as SCSI. Any ideas on how to get them back to(listed as) IDE?
-
UDMA 5 for both default and current.
-
yeah....I was hunting down a problem that didn't exist...but hey. it was late at night, and my computer crashed during the chipset driver re-installation(turns out I already had that version of the driver)...thought maybe something got screwy in there....but it's all running well...and I'm burning yet another backup(3rd since last night) of my Win2kAdvSer CD...my original is getting pretty scratched up...and 1 went bad at the end, the 2nd isn't bootable..so trying for the third.. It's just that I hadn't seen it do that before. I have that ATA 100(master) and ATA 66(slave) drives on the same IDE...am I safe in assuming that I am running at ATA 66 for both? the 100 says UDMA 5 while the 66 says UDMA 4

This is part 2 of the post about a recomendation. Are there any people in here that happen to have this controller card that could tell me more about its performance in Win2k? I.E. Do I need any special drivers for it(if I use the 9.1 GB hdd that comes with it as my Win2k partition), or anything else of that nature? Are there any tips or "secrets" to operatins SCSI properly? Basically anything you can share, I want to hear it before I buy this. Main Questions: 1: Drivers for Win2k? 2: how do I set this up as my primary partition(in the Windows 2000 setup) 3: are there any disk drive limitations(i.e. can I go out and buy a 10,000 or better drive, or am I limited to 7200 PM, such as the IBM 9.1 gig Ultrastar UW drive it comes with? 4: Any recomendations on a SCSI drive? I hear that Cheetahs are the best. 5: Will I notice that great a performance increase? 6: Any personal experiences that may lend themselves helpful? Thank you.

Howdy...it's me again. Quick question. I bought a $9 heatsink/fan combo to hold off till I got a golden orb(though thinking about a peltier). Using Asus's PC-Probe 2.11 or 2.12, my CPU temp in windows goes from 80, to about 60 degrees(F). However, when rebooted, in the bios it distinctly shows about 90 degrees. Any ideas on what the problem is? Fluke or actually decent heatsink(which I doubt)

Adaptech AHA 2940UW SCSI Controller card and IBM DDRS-39130
INFERNO2000 posted a topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
Hey...I just got these two things in a trade..and I really don't have use for them. Both are new(used a week--enough to get a file system in(NTFS),but no OS installation), and in perfect shape. I'd like to get $250 for both of them, as pricewatch dictates a similar, if not greater price -

I'm sorry....9.1 GB. Got it confused with my other IBM drives -
Anyone with a Adapetec aha2940 Ultra Wide SCSI please read

Unfortunately, my plite seems to be of no avail. The guy has sent me the card and drive...so now I'm going to have to send him my mobo and cpu. Oh well. But...now that I have this drive(that I don't especially want)...should I use it as my OS drive? or should I stick with my current configuration? or just sell it again? -
.02 fixed it! Now I know that my cpu thing is working properly..although it jumps from about 89 degrees idle(mobo 87) to 100 degrees active(89 mobo)....but that's well within limits...my Athlon ran at over 110 when I just had an exhaust and intake fan(plus the CPU fan)
-
Sweet! THanks!
-
Has anyone heard anything about this? I've checked their website, and they don't even acknowledge it...but dammit, my mobo has that connector on it...Or is this just another lame post by me?
-
get a competent monitor, and play games at less than 1280x1024. that and search the board for it...it's on here somewhere

Since no one answered...I thought I'd try again: I've used 4 different BIOSes(1001A, 1002.005, 1002.007, and now 1003.002)...and I still have this problem I'm now running a Golden Orb...otherwise, this is the same thing, except it says 46 degrees Fahrenheit... Anyone else get this problem?
-
300 didn't read it...but always go for the larger one.

damned right easy boot.ini speaking of ini files and the such... are the io.sys and msdos.sys still important? or are they leftovers from my initial fat32? Are they safely deletable
