Next step: 966 mhz and running fine. But the CPU temp monitor seems to be screwy? It detects my CPU as being 60 degrees, my motherboard 91, and the room temp is currently 78, so....WTF?
-
Accidentally overclocked it to 900 so instead of being 800/133/100/33, it's now 900/150/112/37, and rock solid just increased the CPU temp up to 98 degrees, and the mobo up to 91..and the CPU dropped to 95 after about 2 minutes. Looking for any recomendations on a CPU intensive ap for WIn98 to run for personal benchmarking until my heatsink comes in and I install 2k Any recomendations?

Hey...using a "stock" $9 cooler to hold over till my Golden Orb arrives, I managed to keep my CPU at 87 degrees..despite 9 hours of Quake3 high setting with all the bots and stuff, Seti@home, and 10 media players running simultaneously. Pretty damned good
-
Well...I ran Quake 3 at all the high settings for 9 hours, with Seti@home in the background, as well as some other media apps repeating over and over...and my CPU went from a standard 87 degrees(which is incidentallythe same as my motherboard), to a staggeringly high 87 degrees!!! Something tells me I'm going to enjoy this rig.
-
Nothing wrong with it at all I jsut bought the intel system...and don't have need for a third rig
-
Not to burst your bubble, but I had decided on the CUSL2 before you said anything the 820 would be nice, but RDRAM? not a chance I bought the 800eb, and will OC it shortly--after I get Win98 installed on my 63 bad sector ATA-2 1 GB hdd Gonna run it nonstop for a few days until the Golden Orb heatsink I ordered arrives. Then it should be *ahem* ripe for overclocking I thought about the 750/100...it was about $50 cheaper...but I figured that even at it's best MhZ setting, my 133 would go higher, even if my CPU mhz was lower(the 7.5x compared to the 6x clock settings). I hope, that instead of coming close to 1 ghz, and maxing out at 133 with the 750, that I could possibly get near 900, and have a FSB of...whatever the math is. but higher than 133. And a special note--this thing posted the first time I powered on. On my K7V, it didn't(had to reset the power or something by causing a short?). Is this a sign of good things to come? I hope so. ------------------ OBSIDIAN (Win2k System) ---Custom Built---REBUILDING PIII Coppermine(370) 800eb w/133FSB (with ThermalTake Golden Orb heatsink) OCed to: Asus CUSL2 mobo(no onboard sound) PNY 288(295 listed)MB PC100 SDRAM (2x128 & 1x32) A-Top 901 Case & 300W Athlon Approved Power Supply 30GB MAXTOR Diamand Max UDMA/66 7200 RPM hdd and IBM15-7 15GB UDMA/100 7200RPM hdd 3 Internal 80mm fans(along with Power Supply, CPU, and GeForce fans) CL SB Live! Not sure if you have the WinTV Go or not, but if so....it's only MONO...so you may never get that 4speaker.

Hey...I have an SBLIVE in one PC, but this question regards the other soundcard in the other PC(Auread 3D based Diamond S90), and BeOS. My volume has one setting in BeOS-TOO DAMNED LOUD!. Where do I get a slider to adjust my volume?
-
So go for the 800/100 over the 800/133? I'm not interested in oc'ing the 800s...I figure they're high enough already. Any more opinions?

Ok...Screw it. I've fought this system since I bought it. I'm going to sell my CPU and mobo to someone who wants WinME or Win98 I'm looking at getting a new Intel System..possibly off the i815e chipset(namely, looking at the ASUS CUSL2?) Does anyone have any horror stories, or recomendations? Namely, I NEED TO KNOW HOW STABLE THIS RUNS. I've uses Win2k PROF and Adv Ser, and BOTH crash with an NTOSKRNL.exe error. I never had this with my 440BX chipset PIII... Anyone that has a system like mine, as well as an i815e mobo, can you give me a comparison? What is the diff. from Win2k Server....Adv. Server?
INFERNO2000 replied to [CaF]Viper's topic in Software
More useless junk that can be disabled to make it run like Pro At least, that's what I tend to do with half of it.... adv Ser allows 4 more CPUs, and has more network clustering options and yada yada yada. Server or Adv. Ser doesn't really matter all that much...you get the majority of the same things. You just get the privelege of writing "advanced" in front of server Actually, when you boot up, all it says is "Server Family", for what it's worth. ------------------ OBSIDIAN (Win2k System) ---Custom Built---REBUILDING LOOKING: PIII Coppermine in 800+mhz region(133FSB) Asus CUSL2 mobo(no onboard sound) PNY 288(295 listed)MB PC100 SDRAM (2x128 & 1x32) A-Top 901 Case & 300W Athlon Approved Power Supply 30GB MAXTOR Diamand Max UDMA/66 7200 RPM hdd and IBM15-7 15GB UDMA/100 7200RPM hdd 3 Internal 80mm fans(along with Power Supply, CPU, and GeForce fans) CL SB Live! Not sure if this is wise or not, I'll find out when I reboot..but when I defragged, found a file called "memory.dmp", the memory dump file, wouldn't defrag. I don't use a memory dump, so I deleted it, and freed up a nice piece of hd space.

Oh, I do. It jsut crashed on me before I could reboot to put it into effect. -
First, what are the specs on your machine? Most importantly, CPU, mobo, RAM, etc.? You said directory services...I'll have to check on that--I personally don't use it...I didn't notice that in the first statement. By this do you mean active directory? If so, I beleive reading a long time ago, that that DOES in fact increase load times....but I don't remember it being that long. If that is the case, and you are using directory services, then I would suspect that the long boot time is normal...but do NOT quote me on that.

I can find the CPUs...just not for a decent price. I want at least 800mhz, any higher would of course be great, but I MUST have 133mhz FSB for it. I want RETAIL as well, for the 3 year warranty. Finding these for around or under 300, though..that's the hard part. I've read many about many similar problems and solutions. All deal with penny haircuts, El NiƱo, that frat party that everyone missed, Elmo's nosehairs, and a bottle of bourbon. But, no matter what the solution was, the answer was always the same. No. It does not take that long I use Advanced Server all the time, and it takes maybe 15 seconds from opening bluescreen to ctrl alt del.

I've been screwing with this mobo and athlon and Win2k for almost 3 weeks, and never have had the stability I did with my Compaq's PIII/440bx combo. Should I simply throw in the towel and sell it and buy an Intel system? If so, what should I look into getting? If all goes well, I'll have about $600 at my disposal(also selling a palmtop and have had several buyers wanting it). I WANT Win2k--I don't want Win98...but I NEED STABILITY. I used to leave my dual boot 98/2k on for weeks with my Compaq...but I'm lucky if it doesn't crash within an hour of use on the new system. I'm looking for suggestions as to which Chipset to look for, whether to look for dual processor support, or stick with a single processor and get a faster one, etc. My system configuration is below...for anything else ------------------ OBSIDIAN (Win2k System) ---Custom Built--- AMD Athlon 750(model 2) retail (Slot A) Asus K7V Mobo BIOS revision 1007 PNY 288(295 listed)MB PC100 SDRAM (2x128 & 1x32) A-Top 901 Case & 300W Athlon Approved Power Supply 3 Internal 80mm fans(along with Power Supply, CPU, and GeForce fans) CL SB Live!
