  1. I have copies of both NAV2000NT and NAVCE7.01NT....and am currently testing(really) Windows Advanced Server...(I intend on purchasing Server when I sell my PDA). ANYWAY...Whenever I try to enable autoprotect, it says I need administrative abilities to "Unload an NT Program" I am logged in as the administrator, and that is the only account on this pc(How do I set up more? Users and Passwords isn't on the control panel)...and it's making me mad. NAV2000 is behaving right now, but I kind of like NAVCE a bit more..and would like to run it instead. Anybody have an idea what to do? ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Advanced Server Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    Professional vs server

I've been running Professional since March, and loved it. This past weekend, I decided that I wanted to try out Advanced Server(yes it's warez)...becaue I was interested in the Windows Media Services.. I've installed it...and have been installing a lot of things, and the system resource usage is just a bit higher....but not bad. What does professional have that server doesn't? A very very long installation time(Pro took almost 3 hours from popping the disk in to completely loading things properly(albeit, I was gone for some time, and didn't click ENTER to reset). Adv. Ser took maybe an hour. They, to my knowledge, all use the same things, but Server comes with more options...more tweaking opportunities. And Media Services. All things considered...If you could get Server, and sell the Licenses, you'd possibly be better off than with a lone Professional. This is what I'm thinking about doing, if I like Advanced Server. ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    ATI video cards

My recomendation is this. ATI supports Win2K fairly well, but they are HORRIBLE when it comes to drivers. If you have the chance, and the money, I recommend something by Nvidia. They're always releasing new(and for me, better) drivers, and are much better in games than ATI. However, if DVD's are your thing, then ATI is the best bet. ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    Windows ME versus Win2k?

I don't think that's necessarily true. The first time I installed Windows 2000, I did the upgrade, and I had the option of making it NTFS, and went for it...I didn't have to fdisk or reformat? But I'm back to FAT32 now...gotta love that Maxtor dis ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    Logitech Quickcam VC USB

That's great. Sorry if I sounded like I was talking out of my ass...I was tired. Ummm....why isn't the VC being supported? It's one of the most popular cameras, unless the express has taken over like the Web did for the Home? ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    Logitech Quickcam VC USB

VC? Is that the video in thing or is it one of the cameras? I have HOME USB, so I don't pay that much attention to the others. They also said they'd be out in May too though... ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

Windows 2000 Nvidia Reference Driver 5.30

Call me crazy..but I never use hibernate. Or sleep. In all honesty, I'm not overly sure what it does. I leave my computer on all the time, and use the ctrl alt del lock.... Am I missing out? ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    Norton compatibility with 2000

NACE 7.01 comes in two flavours that I've seen and downloaded: 9x and NT. Although, I'm not sure if this is full warezed version or just a demo. And for the record, I have a legit copy of NAV2000, I just wanted to see how 7.x was different from 6 ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    Question on Downgrade

I had a Diamond Stealth 540Xtreme....it was the cause of all my problems with Win2K crashing. Here's the solution: BUY NVIDIA!! a load of questions...

    a load of questions...

1: try disabling the network card. This might fix it? Or, say you're not connected to a network in your setup..this will get rid of it. 2: not sure 3: in 98 this had something to do with network settings....here I've never had it happen? can't help..sorry 4: Not sure either 1 out of 4 though ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused since early March) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

S3 Virge MX 3D Video card

Not directly related to Win2000 unless you count my intention to install W2K on the laptop this card is in... but I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of this card, and could point me to a place to get decent reviews of it? I believe it's a Voodoo1 era, maybe 2 if lucky...but not sure. Which is why I'm asking this. 13. I'm wanting to set up a small server with some utilities from Windows 2000 Server...or Windows 2000 Advanced Server. I have Advanced Server immediately available, whereas Server I'll have from work in a week. Is there a way I can install Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and set up services in such a way that I can have its resource consumption down to NEAR-Professional levels? My computer is a Pentium III 500 160 MB PC100 RAM 43.5 GB hdd, etc. etc. ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused for 2 months) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    dual boot

In windows 2000 in startup you can select which OS to use by default, and make it start automatically if you so desire... I'm doing that with mine because I've not used 98 in months and don't want that 3 sec delay.

Getting Win95/98 to speak to Win2000

Quick and easy way is to set up an account for their computer. You can do this in the "Users and Passwords" area in your Control Panel. Just set it up with their account's name and password, and it should work. I did this at college, and was able to connect to my W2k machine with 98, NT4, and 95.

    win98 problems

I know I'm just quickly posting this, and I don't understand everything...but here's my experience...maybe it applies here as well? I had a harddrive partitioned into 4 drives, 2 NTFS(C,D), 2 FAT32(E,F). When I used my Win98 Boot Disk, it rewrote E and F drives as my C and D, since it only recognized my FAT32 drives, thus ****ing up my partition tables. It was unrecoverable, even with Partition Magic. SO the next day I went out and bought a new harddrive, just because I needed a harddrive, since my computer was needed for college. With my harddrive(by Maxtor), came a disk utility bootdisk. Using this, I was able to blow the entire ****ed up harddrive, and redo everything. Fdisk and Format in a GUI. Very sweet program. If you want to completely blow your harddrive and start out fresh, email me(inferno2000@ve3d.net) and I'll send you a zipped copy of the disk. And if this isn't what's needed, then I'll make this post useful. Hi Mom! ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused for 2 months) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

    really quick Disk Management question

I was playing around in Disk Management yesterday, changing the letters to my cd drives(from O and P to R(CD-RW) and V(DVD)). I saw something in the harddrive options saying "Dynamic Disc" What is that? It says after I do that, I cannot install older OS's, which is fine with me. I want to blow my 98SE partition anyway. If I make it Dynamic, would it affect my 98SE? ------------------ PIII 500 (Pre CuMine) 160MB RAM GeForce DDR Sonic Impact S90 Win2K Prof(and W98SE, but unused for 2 months) Logitech Itouch Elite Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Everglide (HL Giganta) Logitech Quickcam Home etc. etc. etc.

Is SP1 for w2k worth all the hassle?

Call me an idiot(don't--it's a figure of speech), but what are these bugs? I've never had an OS failure due to anything but ****ty drivers? Am I just lucky, or am I missing something?

    Windows Media Services

I read on the Microsoft website that Windows Media Services, available in W2K Server and Advanced Server, allow for webcam use. Logitech sucks ass, and haven't released their software for W2K like they said they would. I have Windows 2000 Professional, and a *ahem* alternate version of Advanced Server(yeah I know I don't need it). Is there any way that I can get WMS off of W2K AS and use it in W2K P?

    Logitech webcam drivers

Here's what the bastards said. Thank you for using Logitech's Electronic Technical Support. The following information has been submitted by our technical staff in response to your original question. You may wish to print this out and/or save this on your computer. RESOLUTION: ========== Currently, Logitech QuickCam cameras are not supported under Windows 2000. Logitech does plan to support Windows 2000 with a release of QuickCam software, however there is no expected release date. The release of software will support all current cameras, however, some older cameras may not be supported. What does this mean? it means they gave up on May. ****ing bastards.
