Yeah, Stiltner was taking too long on his Coldforge, so I said screw it and moved on to bigger and better(?) things. I don't have the switches set up yet. On my list of mods to do are: Change out LEDs(White for PSU1 & 2, and Blue for each of the HDDS---all of them the brightest I can get(I want to light up my room if I can!). Set up Baybuses to control fans. They're mostly L series Panaflos..so they ARE quiet....but the 2 53 decibel Delta EHE 80mm/80CFM fans need something. I'm looking at the switches in the back and an LCD up front, otherwise the 3.5" bay cover will be my new baybus. I need 2 92mm grills(then every exposed fan(except the hdd ones in the back) will have grills on both sides--but I'll get those on Monday or so.) After that, there's not much modding to do. PSU1 will power the mobo & fans PSU2 will power the hard drives & top 4 5.25" drives PSU3(whenever I determine I have need for it) will power all 5.25" bay drives. PSU2 will take over all 3.5" drives. PSU3 will also power my watercooling equipment, since the 5.25" bays won't use the power all the time(unless I get SCA equipment, which I doubt)

but htink of all the people who want this for bragging rights?

Case modded by Jim Hanson Final price: $713. (before I hear whining about someone else modding it for me, take this into account: case: 400 bucks 20 fans at about 11 a piece $220 Grills for all fans at 1 a piece $25 (some have them on both sides) FILTERS for 7 fans: 2 a piece $15 Hole saws for 120, 92, 80, 60: $20 a piece= $80 Shipping on all items $100(roughly) Total price: roughly $70+ labor and fear of screwing something up. Jim had never modded an Ultra before, so this was a new mod design. BEFORE: AFTER: (next to an Enlight 7237 for comparison)

Hey--I work at Circuit City I needed something to finance my plans of world domination between busy seasons. They make commission by selling you those plans. 50 cents for the RPP's (telephones, walkmans, etc), about 7.50 for protection plans for everything but PCs, and who knows what for CSP's. That's why they're always harassing you about it. For the record, I won't even mention it, and I never make commission. I don't believe in commission. If you want something, great. if you don't great. If you want an extended warranty, fine, if not, oh well. I don't want my income based upon other people's naivety on buying extended warranties. Hell, to me everything is disposable. By the time it breaks, there's something new out that I want instead. My philosophy is to help the customer buy something. Not to sell them something. I just want them to leave and not come back because of what was sold. So, if you're in the Decatur, IL area, look for me. I won't bother you about a plan. Hell, I'll get fired before I try to sell those in earnest. I plan on quitting and becoming a techie for the cable company---those @$$Holes are always screwing up computers when they install the cable modems. I always have to go fix them. I'll be the techie everyone wants

My Pentium 3 900/512 laptop goes from cold boot to done in under a minute (including putting in BIOS password and Windows password) Something seems very wrong...do you have any networking items such as DHCP enabled? That made my W2K Server slow
-
my laptop does that as well. or rather, doesn't do that.
-
I just got Mac OS X not sure what I'll do with it though. Mandrake is my alt OS. other than 2000 SP2(and SP3), and XP

Are you using WOL? WOL screwed up my system.
-
I signed up for it, and a week or 2 later, I got an email telling me they've chosen me for beta testing of Windows 2000 Service Pack 3. Pretty sweet, since I just got a Win2k Server up....I'd migrated my main machine(s) to XP Pro...so I'll have a rig or 2 to beta test on.

The only GF that I know of to have that would be Asus' Deluxe models.

Half-Mast LAN Party would like to show it’s support for the victims of the horrible tragedy that took place on September 11, 2001. They would like to throw a HUGE Not-For-Profit event, that brings in not only guests, but other LAN Parties. The expected attendance for this party will be around 500 people. The cost of this LAN Party would be the usual $20, with extra donations taken. The money raised would go towards paying for the party, with any money left over going to help the victims through a relief fund. As of yet, nothing has been set in stone, as far as dates, times, location, etc. The tentative time and place is weekend of October 5th, Bloomington, IL *Brandon Cloud (Necessary Evil) *Brian Rust (Viper) <http://www.half-mast.net> <http://www.lanextremeparty.com> <http://www.midwestfrag.org>

BUMP! It's this weekend, guys! Come help us and support a good cause. And frag a few bastages as well

but, doesn't 2000 have a HAL as well? Oh well. HAL +1 = IBM, just like MS +1 = NT

I just bought a Voodoo3 3000 AGP and a 10GB hdd from a friend of mine (here, he's Fake McCoy if memory serves me correctly). Same price as a GF2MX200 w/ TV out. It's fine for me, since it's going in a Win2K Server/Linux box. you want your voodoo to live on? Go Linux.

has anyone gotten a Game Theater XP to work on winxp?
INFERNO2000 replied to kamakazi's topic in Hardware
I don't think therre's a real fix just wait a month, it'll be fixed if you have onboard audio, use it for the time being. -
I posted this at the [H], but wanted your opinions as well "Does anyone here think that Windows XP will be the watershed I hope it is? Anyone with an old computer that can't support XP properly will hereby be considered Legacy...and manufacturers can move on and provide those of us with "modern" machines better materials, more suited to our capabilities, rather than their forefathers'. no more games meant to cater to people with a Cyrix 333 and a 4mb S3Virge DX. TNT2 or better, 16mb and up. no more applications catering to the hopeless Win95 crowd with their struggling Packard Bell and Compaqs that still rely on edo and an infinite amount of a Technician's patience and aggravation. I don't necessarily want to have this shoved down people's throats, but dammit, it's time that we moved on and turned our backs on systems that are top of the line for 6 years ago. We need a watershed event to speed us along. ISA is dead. a very few boards still allow it, but no new ones(DDR-generation) are coming with it. I believe Mac did it with their G series...much to the chagrin of legacy users, and delight of others. If legacy devices are still needed, for some inane reason, leave them with an OS more suited to them (Win98SE). Let them stay there and not be upgraded or updated or whatever. Let them sit in their corners and fold genomes or whatever while they're not being used. Hook them up to the internet and use them as printservers or file servers or whatever. If you insist on using your Pentium2 450 or AMD K6-2 400 with 64mb of RAM, spend the lousy 20 bucks and upgrade yourself to 192 or more! 50 bucks will get you a GF2MX 200 w/ TV out. Get rid of your ATI RagePro Turbo AGP(I admit, I have one). have an 8gb hdd? a mere 50 bucks can get you 20GB more! Something needs to be done. id is doing their Doom3 in such a way that if you have a TNT2, you can basically forget it, and the GF3 will have a hard time running it at what are considered "minimum" fps by today's avid gamers. Quake 3, UT, and especially Tribes 2 were good at pressing the standards. Some of us upgraded(I upgraded to a GeForce256 because of Quake 3, and Tribes 2 made me upgrade to a GF2 GTS) But what has done this with Operating Systems? nothing really. You just got a bloated WinME that did nothing worthwhile over Win98 other than dumbed the OS down for the idiots who couldn't handle Win2K(and as for gamers--most of them opted for Win98SE over WinME....very few of you out there willingly use-and endorse-WinMe over Win98Se in games. And hte rest of you have moved on to Win2k or XP.) for one reason or another. Win2k was a watershed for NT4 systems. no longer could a Pentium 100 do the trick. while this was bad for some companies who didn't want to upgrade, that was their choice. to get the nice new features that 2k offered, they had to get better systems. but XP isn't just in a corporate environment. They have their eyes set on the consumer market as well. They're finally moving people over to the far more stable NT kernel, and as long as shitty ****ing companies such as Compaq and HP don't screw the kernel over with their bloatware, I think MS could do really well with the newfound stability alone that most consumers didn't know their computers had. I've not seen an unexpected blue screen on my machines with NT kernels in 9 months. With this change, can MS officially label the 9x core as "legacy" the way WinMe did to MSDOS, and provide it with fixes, but not new developments? ...Instead investing it's time and money and research on XP, .net, and other endeavours that would help the consumer in what could potentially be a "new" computing world and opportunities for the consumer that the NT kernel provides?" http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=227065&highlight=watershed

I'm glad that XP is forcing a move. No more Pentium 133's being enough in today's world. A watershed for x86 is necessary....hopefully XP will prove to be sufficient to start it.

XP costed me 2 attempts of downloading over 2 days and 3 cds to get a good copy. Eventually, someone just loaned me the CE, and I got rid of my non-CE. Since it was free to me(MCSE program at school, and unscrupulous friends ), installing it instead of 2k doesn't cost me anything. disable the features I don't use...and I'm on my way at just 80mb RAM usage instead of 72. oh well. no items on desktop is nice... locked bars is nice. I use the silver luna, and like it. I ungrouped the control panel. I have NT-style login and logout. no real bugs, other than if I restart my laptop, I lose sound. this happened in 2k as well(only sound was at twice the pitch as norma), so all I can do is shut down for a restart. I'm going to purchase the Server edition next year when I buy Hammers...but I'll stick with my Pro CE for now
