Ok, futher testing yields more results... I didn't even have my server listed as any of the DNS server. Now it is the secondary one (my ISP's is the primary) and it still works while haveing quick Internet connectivity.

I found the answer! I had the primary DNS as an outside DNS. Make sure that the server responsible for your Active Directory is the same as the client's primary DNS server. I switched this ONE thing and it fixed it! Instant login now!

I'm also having the same problem. It takes 5 minutes to login and seems to hang while "Applying personal settings"

Devildog, I have used Client 4.8 on WinXP and it does work. It is a bit flaky, for instance it has a warning message on the initial Ctrl-Alt-Del login when you start your computer. This warning is unreadable (in a wacko font) but other than that things work fine. I have been able to run Netware Administrator, NAL, and all kinds of other things on it. Just be sure you load SP3 for client 4.8. Happy XP'ing! Let me know if you have any other questions. -Hed

I believe you are correct. We recently got Office XP at the school I work at (I work for the IT dept.) and it does not have product activation. I don't know if this is because of the software is different (we got different media) or the key. I have heard that we have an "OpenLicense" key... that allows you to install without being prompted to activate. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Do any of you know how to set a default in Active Directory so that when I add a user with the Users & Computers console, it displays the user in the AD as "Last Name, First Name"? For example, if I create a user with last name Doe, and first name John... it displays it as "John Doe". I would really like it to show up as "Doe, John" in the AD since it is MUCH easier to search by last name than it is first. I have another question too that should be related. Is there any way to default other things, like email addresses? Like can it be smart enough to know that if I enter John Doe as a user, it creates jdoe@ouremail.com? Thanks for any help you can provide. -Andrew

My Direct3D worked great after a fresh install of win2k and downloading the nVidia reference drivers (3.78). Then something happened. I am pretty sure it was right after I did all the Windows Updates (including the MS Compatibility Patch). Whenever I would go to play a game of Carmageddon 2, I would try to invoke D3D mode, and CARMA2_HW would crash. I tried loading the 5.16 drivers that I got off a link off of this board, but to no avail. (I couldn't even get those to work, but that is another story... I've reverted to 3.78) Now the D3D option is greyed out. I've tried running DXDIAG.EXE, and under the Display Tab, DirectDraw acceleration is enabled. If I try to test Direct3D acceleration, the software rendering passes, but It can't do hardware. It says: "Direct3D test results: Failure at step 18 (CreateDevice): HRESULT = 0x80004002 (No interface)" Any ideas what that means? AGP Support also says "Not Available". That is also a mystery I'm puzzeled, because everything worked until that stupid MS compatibility patch. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!
