Xiven. Correct me if I'm wrong( and i know you will) what can you do with Win 2000 that you can't do with NT..Besides play more games. What did Microsoft do to Win 2000 that makes it so great. Belive me I'm not the smartest person when it comes to OS it's not what I do, there are a lot of people on this board that know more than I will ever know on this subject, but in general I don't hear a lot of praise for 2000. Im not bad mouthing it just reporting what I hear and see. NT seems to be more stable, and most programs seem to run on it just fine, except for most games. Besides is Microsoft dropping Win 2000 and bringing in another. ??? Kind Regards Joe

I was informed by someone that AGP is fully supported by NT but USB is not. And I agree if your into games in a big way Win 2000 might be the way to go. But if this board is any indication, you may be visiting it quite often when Win 2000 bites back at you for evry little thing you install on it. Sorry but I read most the posts on this forum and there related to 2000 for the most part. Cheers;)

You have a point Clutch. I didn't want my post to sound like Win 2000 should not be used for Cad software,(like it did LOL). I guess I still hear so many people still having problems with Win 2000, thats why I sugessted sticking with NT. I use AutoCad 2000 Mechanical Desktop 5, I deas, and 3D Studio Vis among others. I would like to switch over to win 2000 but lack the guts to install it on my system as the only operating software. That's why I want to have a dual boot with NT/ AND 2000 to see how it dose in the long run. Cheers

whoisurdaddy. I spend about 70% of my time using Cad software and the rest surfing and playing the odd game. I say go for NT 4.0 to me it's the ultimate. It has been running ROCK SOLID for me for the last several years. If your not into gamming go with NT 4.O SERVICE PACK 6A. CHEERs

Hello. I have the Sound blaster 16 pci right now and was thinking of an upgrade. Would I really notice the difference in quality if I bought the SB 64, SB 128 OR SB 128. I'm starting to play more games, but I'm wondering if the sound is all that much better in the cards mentioned above. Keep in mind I have never heard a high quality sound card..infact I have never heard any card better than the one I have. haha Im using LABTEC 70 SPEEKERS. Thanks Regards Joe

Hello When I use ICQ, or MSN Messanger I have to shut my firewall down so the person i'm talking too can hear me. I can hear them fine they just can't hear me. I don't like the idea of disabaling my firewall so can anyone tell me how to configure my firewall so that lucky person on the other end can hear me. haha. I figured it out. I just disabled automatic rule setting, then I set up a voice chat session and created a rule that would allow that transmission to go through, and that as they say is that. Wonder why Norton Tech couldn't tell me that.????

Yes I agree BladeRunner I would rather stick to the NT platform myself. The software that is not Win 2000 compatable yet is Ideas Cad software.

Normaly you have a point rgodart, but I have some software that wont run on 2000 yet. I would have prefered win 98 along with NT, but I hear its a big headache to install after NT. Infact I heard that you can't install it after NT. I'm using NTFS files. Cheers

Thanks guys. I have NT installed already with SP 6A. What I hope to do is by another 7200 rpm hard drive before I install it. I only have about 1.7 gig left on my drive and I still have some large programs, not to metion games to install. I will have a friend help me out. I'm a little nervous to say the least because I have been so very pleased with NT 4.0 i don't want to mess it up. I personaly think NT 4.0 is the best software out there. It has been rock solid for me, and handels my Cad software perfictly. But it has it's limits that's where win 2000 will come in. Also just a little weary about win 2000 still. Thanks again.

Thanks Dos I guess there isen't a software out there that would fool NT into recognising the USB AND AGP. I understand that you can make NT think that it's Win 95. Would this solve the problem? and if this was done what effect would it have on NT as far as its memory managment abilities. Thanks

I do a lot of Cad on my computer (3D modeling) so I bought one of thoes 3M precision pads, it sucked for lack of a better word, so after trying variose mouse pads my little nephew gave me a 4 dollar Warner Bros. Looney Tunes mouse pad with all my favorite characters on it LOL and it's been the best mouse pad I have ever had. HAHA Bdee Bdee thats all folks. Cheers
