I have one more question if I may. I here people talking about your system paging to your hard drive, if you don't have enought ram. How do I find out if my system is doing this. I have 256 megs of ram, I set it up like this. (NT 4.0 SP 6A) PAGE FILE SIZE Space available. Initial size (384) max size (384) Total paging file size. Minimun allowed 2mb Recomended 267 mb Currently allocated 384 mb Did I set it up right or wrong. Thanks in advanced

Hi. I have been reading this thread with great interest, I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what I should set my page file at, or any other memory settings at for that matter, so I can get the most out of my system. I have a pentium 600, with 256megs of ram. I do a lot of Cad, 3d modeling and would like to know what my system should be set at. Im running NT 4.0 sp 6a. For all I know I may be getting the most out of it, because I don't know what signs to look for that would tell me I'm not. I must tell you I don't know a lot about the workings of a computer, so if you could keep it simple it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello this may seem like a stupid question, but I have been reading the posts on different graphic cards and I see things like the Matrox card is great for 2d but not so good for 3d. Now please keep in mind I know very little about these things, and I have never seen a high end graphics card at work, but I have a Matrox g400 32meg agp card, and I do a lot of 3d solids using Cad software, and they look pritty good to me. I also play the odd game, like Quake and HL, and they also look good. So what makes a good 3d card as apposed to a bad 3d card. Thanks. PS. I have learned a lot from this site. I find it very informative.

Hello oXide The way I understand it that duel prossessors only help if you do a lot of multitasking, suffing and burning a CD at the same time. Other wise their a compleat wast of money They don't increase speed at all Then again I could be wrong...God knows that's happend before. Cheers

Can anyone tell me why a person would pay all that extra money to up grade from a 933 prossessor to a 1 gig. Is there any differance in speed, I don't think so. And why spend the extra for the 1.5gig when you can save the money and by the 1.4 gig or the 800 to the 900gig no differance in speed, not that the human eye can see. Why make intel any richer. With the extra money you save you can invest it. Im still running a 6oo pentium and it works great. Sorry guys just thinking out loud. Enjoy

Hello can anyone tell me what good games are out there that will run on NT 4.0. There doesn't seem to be a hell of a lot out there. Looking for something that requires a bit of thinking and some good wholesome violence. I have half life and Quake 3. Hi Moray Yes I do realize what the forum is called, but my original post was asking if anyone new of any games that required some thinking and some good wholesome violence, and ran on NT 4.O. Just a question guys, not trying to start a 3 mile long thread. But I have been using NT 4.O for a while now and I love the thing, I need it for my Cad programs among other things. The only down fall is there just isen't a lot of games out there that will play on it. Im sure that will change in the future. But im puzzeled about Win 2000. I read this forum all the time and all I hear is people haveing problems with 2000. Compatability problems, among other things. Is it just me or are there others out there seeing the same thing. Just an observation folks not trying to stir the pot, I know how sensative people in this forum can be when NT is critisized in any way.

Thanks Brian for the info. I do have cable internet, and a nice fast connection. I downloaded the Quake demo at 450k a sec wow it was done in about 9 min. I'll check the sites out that you recomend. Can't wait till there is more of a selection of games for NT 4.0.

Dos I have the money, and you take this a little to personally. And I never said you were wrong. There must be a better way to spend money than allways trying to have the latest prossesor expecially if you can hardly notice the differance in speed between some of the chips. You must be able to see the logic in this.......cant you.

Hello people The specs of my system are as follows. 600 pent Assus P3BF Motherboard 256 of ram Matrox G400 32MEGS of ram AGP 9 GIG 7200 RMP Maxtor Soundblaster Soundcard The reason why I posted this letter was I wanted to go to win 2000 because it sounded like the perfict OS. I could use some of my cad software, not all will run on win2000 yet, and play more games, but I shyed away when I saw all the problems it is having. Im not saying that it is a bad opperating system I believe it will be a very good one in the future, but to me Microsoft could of done a better job on 2000, to limite all the bugs on such a high end OS. when it first realeased it.

Event ID 1001 Source NAVAP System memeory is running very low norton antivirus auto protect may not be able to function properly. Im running NT 4.0 SP 6a 256 meg of ram. Hello I hope someone can help here. Im running NT 4.0 sevice pack 6a, and Netscape 4.7. For some reason with in the last 2 weeks when I shut my system down at night it hangs. I then have to manually shut it down. This only seems to happen when I use the web. If im not on the internet that day and I shut down I have no problems, but if im on the net during the day and I shut down the systeem, it hangs. The only new things I have added to my system are an iomega zip,and a scanner. There not even on when this occures. Any help would be appreciated Thanks PS: Can shutting it down manually when the system hangs cause damage to my system. hanges cause any future problems

I just noticed last night that when my computer hangs the Netscape icon highlights and stayes that way. It's the only icon that stays highlighted on my screen.
