My best advice? Go with Windows 2000, not NT 4. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!" -Adolph Hitler, 1935

Nah, nobody's gonna try upgrading Win2K with WinME. I mean, think about it... Sure, there were some dummies thinking Win2K was the upgrade path from Win9x, but they undoubtably tried Win2K, gave up, and went back to Win9x. They quit Win2K with the first, "WTF is this!?" That leaves the only upgrade path for those specific people to be Win9x to WinME (Win9xx), IMHO.

Yeah, two here also. And one of 'em takes up a pisspot-load of memory.

Well, NormanSmiley, you blew your cool. You could have just set back, said nothing, and it would have passed. Or you could have posted, "Gee, I didn't think about that. That makes sense," and everyone would have thought, "Hey what a great guy, he even admits when he's wrong." But no; like a hurt little child you chose to strike back, "I know you are, but what am I!" Do you think what you posted really bothers any of us or makes us think any better of you? I can tell you that, no, it doesn't. You CAN redeem yourself by being a positive contributing poster to this BBS. Or you can do what you probably will do; move on to somewhere else, all the time wondering why nobody likes you. I don't normally respond to flames, as that is exactly what the flamer wants (except for jdulmage, who at least has a sense of humor). Mostly because responding to flames tend to put the flamer in charge of the message thread. I posted this just for your edification. So that maybe you could get an idea of how others may see you. Make of it what you will. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. That way I can address specific people about hardware questions specific to their systems. And be grateful that Four and Twenty was so nice to you, being a newbie. You don't happen to use AOL, do you? ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Here's an April WinMag anti-virus program review: http://www.winmag.com/reviews/software/2000/04/0425_a.htm ------------------ "This year will go down in history. I'm with DosFreak and clutch on this one. Nvidia TNT and GeForce SDR have always performed well for me under Win98SE & 2000. Never had any driver problems, and Nvidia has always provided better driver support than 3Dfx did with my prior cards. As far as loki; bud, if IE 5.5 takes that long to load, you got some system problems. If it were my 'puter, I'd be trying to get to the bottom of that rather than blaming IE 5.5. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. OK, I'll admit I love the taste of Diet Dr. Pepper, but none after 5pm for me, thanks...getting too caffeine-sensitive lately.

Quote: now you just turned a perfectly good poll into a war by saying that pussies drank pepsi... Back in the '50's and '60's only pussies drank Pepsi. Wanna make something of it? Nowadays, I dunno. This IS the era where 'real men' have 'feelings' right?

Diet 7Up. No sugar, no caffeine, very low sodium. Perfect for an old fart like me. HOWEVER, back in the day, good ol' Coke couldn't be beat. Only pussies drank Pepsi. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Probably a dumb question, but do you have the most current version/patch of ZoneAlarm? ------------------ "This year will go down in history. Quote: if the operating system is "the most advanced operating system in the world" shouldn't it be able to support a lot of hardware and still be stable while still making it easy for users to use any programs they want without checking up on whether it will 'work' with their operating system? Windows 2000 does run a lot of hardware. In fact, it runs most modern hardware. In fact, it runs ALL the hardware that has certified drivers for it. That's the whole point of the certification program. Microsoft TRIED to do that as far back as Windows 95 and earlier versions of NT, but manufacturers were slow to respond. Whose fault is that, Microsoft's? Is Microsoft in the hardware driver business? As far as "making it easy for users to use any programs they want without checking up on whether it will 'work' with their operating system," that's the problem with a lot of users. They buy programs/games without bothering to read the minimum and recommended system requirement statements on the box. They even buy Windows programs and get upset when they don't run on their MacOS machines. Is that Apple's fault? As it is, Microsoft has made a huge effort at hardware and software compatibility with Windows 2000. More than on any other operating system I've seen come down the pike. Considering your statement again, it appears to me that if that is your attitude, you shouldn't be running this operating system. You're not ready for it. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Actually, Creative has a beta for the Encore 6x player with the Dxr3 encoder board, but I don't recommend this. It appears to be the same beta that screwed-up a few peoples systems, including mine, a few months ago. However, there is a Hollywood Sigma encoder/Creative DVD player hack around the message forums. Just do a search on them. I'm making the assumption you have the Dxr3 or another encoder card. I don't know how it works without one. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. You wasted your "precious time" downloading drivers to make your peripherals work, yet you have enough time to post mostly drivel in this message forum. And you want to buy whatever hardware or games right off the shelf, spending no time or thought whatsoever to see if they'll work with the most advanced operating system around. Waaaaaa! I have a sneakin' suspicion that you'd better go check the oil in your car. Have you ever had it changed? Quit your whining, and go play in some other sandbox. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. IMHO, Linux/Unix will never be 'mainstream' among users. BUT...I hope it keeps making inroads. It's not uncommon at all for new OS's to be released to new PC manufacturers a month or so before being released to the general public. As for the other idiotic responses, quit wasting bandwidth; obviously you have little to spare. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. You can view thumbnails in ANY directory. Just goto Windows Explorer>View>Thumbnails. If you have Win2K folder options set to remember each folder's setting, it will always be that way (Windows Explorer>Tools>Options>View). ------------------ "This year will go down in history. 420, you're right-on about AOL, but I must say, that was one helluva warm welcome you gave the new poster here. I'm sure he'll rush to post more questions, considering the erudite response he got to that one. Whassamatta, run out of swag? ------------------ "This year will go down in history. From the news archives: "AOL 5.0 for Windows 2000 Posted Thursday, August 10, 2000 Thanks to Matt for informing me that AOL has released AOL 5.0 for Windows 2000. You have to be signed on to AOL using Windows 2000 to get it, which is kind of hard for some people." I realize the above references AOL 5, not 6. Try asking AOL. ------------------ "This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. I think you need to be talking to Microsoft. Not recently departed felines.
