What do you consider the best computer game ever made?
Xiven replied to pr-man's topic in Slack Space
Dune 2: the first RTS that looked like most modern RTS games and it was great fun to play. Frontier - Elite II: great fun game that consumed much of my time (though I never really properly got the hang of the combat). Half-life: the game that convinced me to buy a PC. And I still can't get over how satisfying that shotgun is in multiplayer - not to mention the best rocket launcher I've ever seen (and no you can't rocket jump with it ). Starcraft: the game that consumed the very largest part of my (and several other people's) first year at University... plus some classics including Monty on the run, Kikstart 2 and various other C64 games. [edit] Ermmm... how on Earth did I forget about Final Fantasy VII? -
Yeah, perhaps we should all upgrade to this "Windows 98" thing. It sounds great.

WOAH!!!! It works! Thanks

Perhaps the issue is with the keyboard, potentially one of the Shift keys could be getting stuck down which would probably cause the symptoms you are describing. Try a different keyboard if possible and see if the problem continues.

As far as I can recall, Nimda spreads by 3 methods: e-mails, open network shares and by exploiting a flaw in IIS (which only requires port 80). You seem to have the e-mail one covered, so check that all your IIS servers are fully patched, and check that the infected machines don't have any world-writable shares.

Well, if you're lucky, it will all work fine... until you reach the chocobo races.

If all else fails, try disabling ACPI. There are countless topics on this message board that explain the process in detail.

Yeah, with all recent builds of VMWare, you just click the link in the status bar after the guest OS has booted and it does it all for you.

I still use the old discontinued LeechFTP. Haven't found any other ones that I like.

From the compatibility pages right here at NT Compatible (http://www.ntcompatible.com/comp.php?cat=games&idx=s): System Shock 2 (Looking Glass) Yes W2000 03/02 Received the follow messages: 1)To install System Shock 2 on your Windows 2000 system, you will need to run the following command (from a DOS window or using the Run Program command): Setup -lgntforce also you need the patch from http://www.lglass.com/cs/shkpatch.exe to fix the incompatibility with the SafeDisk copy protection and the OS. 2) Fails to work under Matrox G200 cards due to driver bug. (Even after patch.) Game installs fine, but exits out with a black screen and then an error message from SS2 -- "YOUR VIDEO HARDWARE IS NOT SUPPORTED BY SYSTEM SHOCK 2" Thief 1 & 2, also by Looking Glass, have problems with the driver. Matrox is aware of the bug it will hopefully be fixed in the next driver revision. http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/Forum10/HTML/000644.html 3) I tried the sugguestions noted but the game hangs once I get into a mission. No clue if its 2000 related, or hardware related. Have dual 800 PIII's, 128 rdram, geforce2 gts, sb x-gamer, both with latest drivers. 4) If you have dual CPUs, you need to start the game, then set the affinity to only one CPU in task manager. With affinity set to both CPUs, SS2 will crash. 5) If installed using "setup.exe -lgntforce" (no quote marks) and the patch is installed then it should work fine. ftp://ftp.gamepower.com/pub/gamepower/sysshock2/shkpatch.exe 6) Have to force install from CD by adding -lgntforce after the exe. Then install the newest patch and it'll work. http://www.3dfiles.com/patches/systemshock2.shtml 7) The old link to the patch is dead. This works and its also the original link. http://www.irrationalgames.com/shock2/files/shkpatch.exe 8) The game and the patches installed normally. On some of the menu screens, the mouse pointer "freezes" on the screen, but is actually still moving... you just can't see it. If you listen for the sounds that the pointer makes when it passes over a hover button, you can switch to the desktop and then switch back to the game to get a new snapshot and hopefully be close to the button you need. I am fairly certain this issue is caused by my video card driver. I have an ATI Rage Fury 128. http://www.sshock2.com

I know this has been decided already but I am just curious w

Internet Explorer 6: Good browser Mozilla 0.9.9: Better standards compliancy than IE, tabbed browsing, pop-up disabling built-in, a few bugs. Opera 6: Tabbed browsing, pop-up disabling built-in, but poor support for Document Object Model and CSS2 (meaning the new web-based game that i'm writing will never work in Opera) . I personally use Mozilla (and IE when necessary). -
Just downloaded the new Application Compatibility Toolkit 2.5 from the link on the front page (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=37564) and apparently it seems to require Windows 2000 SP3. Oh well.

You can use the registry fix below to solve the mouse wheel problem permanently. Usual warnings about registry editing apply. Reboot after making the changes. __________________ REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion\Technical] "MouseHookDllEnable"="0" "WheelMsgToVmouse"="1" __________________

Just noticed the release date. Perhaps this is a Microsoft April Fool

Read the FAQ on the KaZaa Lite website, it explains it.

Thanks for pointing out KaZaa Lite, that program is great.

http://www.htthost.com/ will do what you want. I've used it for similar purposes to give me access to IRC, telnet and POP mail.

Quote: oh, and how do u do that little degrees symbol Not sure if this'll work: ° EDIT: Okay it does work, you just put the text ° when you want a degree symbol

Just looked and it looks okay to me. Of course that 4th w in wwww wouldn't help

Tried it, doesn't work: Code: The procedure entry point _ui64tow could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll You'd have to do something pretty drastic to make it work which is a shame because the XP one has some nice features.

Quote: Where the heck is winipcfg command in W2K and XP???? Don't know about the rest of your post, but you can open up the command prompt (cmd) and run ipconfig (sure, it's command-line but it's perfectly usable)
-
And no, SP3 will not include IE6
-
As I recall, DK2 only works if you're logged in with an account that has administrative priviledges, so if you're not doing so, try that and see if it works.
-
Yes it will. I'm using it right now exactly like that.
