Need link on how to edit mpeg

VirtualDub should do what you want. It's not got the world's best interface, but it can edit mpeg, avi and other media files.
  2. It is recommended that you do not use the guest account. Instead you should create user accounts on both machines with the same user/pass as the other machine's logged in user and grant them access to the shared folders. If you're still going to use the guest account then check this: [*]Go to Start -> Run [*]Enter "secpol.msc" [*]Go to Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment [*]Double-click on "Deny access to this computer from the network" [*]Remove the guest account if it's in there. Furlongs are rarely used except in horse racing (for some unknown reason). Aside from that we have a bizarre mix of metric and imperial measurements with schools teaching everything in metric but road signs still saying everything in miles/mph ;( Quote: Sensible option like not having any central fuses in the house but having the fuse on the cord for every appliance... The fuse is in the plug (and by the way our plugs are far sturdier than the US feeble ones) and is easily replacable, but this is just for extra safety, there is still a centralised fuse box (or circuit breakers if we're going to be in this millenium) in the house. It's very rare for the fuse in the plug to go but if it did I'd still be glad that it's a damn sight safer than the standards used by certain other countries. Quote: Sensible option like driving on the wrong side of the road... The only reason your country doesn't drive on the left is that your ancestors really didn't want to copy us. I seem to recall being told there was some logical reason for driving on the left but I really can't remember what it was and I'm sure it's not relevant now. Trouble is changing over is just too much hassle - think of the problems it would cause (think stupid people). Quote: Sensible option like having all-floor carpets in the bathroom... Ermmm.. I don't, and I don't know many people who do have either. But it does seem really stupid Quote: With money you guys already gave in once when you stopped counting 8 Shillings on every Pound and 3,5 Pounds on everey Guinea or however it was done when you had the Real Brittish Currency. BTW, when was that changed, in the 70' s ? Anybody know how that system worked ? Info is: http://www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/units/money.htm It was an extremely illogical system and I'm very glad we don't use it any more. As for adopting the Euro, well the reason our government doesn't like the idea too much is that they'd lose all control over interest rates etc., and we still remember the disaster that was the ERM (Exchange Rate Mechanism): http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/in_depth/europe/euro-glossary/newsid_1216000/1216833.stm Anyway, enough of this let's get back to the topic I've always been happy with www.dabs.com Had bad experiences with www.overclockers.co.uk www.scan.co.uk are ok Some friends seem to like www.ebuyer.com PS. you forgot to mention the really stupid one - the TV license.

MS VBscript error tring to post to another forum

Quote: But why is it only one of my drives? The other is fine..........doesn't that point to a corrupted file on that drive? Dunno, but that is definitely a server-side problem (trust me on this) ie. the problem is on their end, not yours. One reason it could be happening in only one of your drives though is that a cookie stored in one OS is breaking their code. This is only a slight possibility (their code would have to really suck) and unlikely if it's happening in multiple browsers. There could be any number of reasons why it is occuring, but if it is the case then deleting the offending cookie may fix you up. Other than that, mail the owners of the forum with the complete error message and see if they can fix their code.

Yet another reason to NOT like XP.

Quote: What kind of gizmos are dropping off? Is it possible that the drivers or devices themselves aren't up to snuff? Well, both my Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro and my Logitech Dual Optical USB mouse get dropped. I don't think it's the devices themselves, but the USB interface that's going wrong (I mean come on, if a Microsoft-made keyboard doesn't work what chance is there? ) Quote: I'm lost on this one as well; please tell me what you mean by "Web View". Okay, a little clarification on "web-view" Web view is that pane on the left-hand side of an explorer window that contains image/media preview, file properties etc. I know what you'll say - they have that in XP. Well sort of. In XP you cannot have both the folder list and the web view visible at the same time (like I have above) and also you can't customise it on a per-folder basis (like I've done in the above picture ). I know it seems like a little thing but it really does annoy me. ;( Quote: Oh, and Via sucks... Thought you'd bring that up yeah Via does suck (I'll admit it), and if I had the money I'd go out and buy a lovely nForce mobo or even an Intel chipset or something but I am but a poor student .

    Date format under IIS

If you don't find any other way you could always write an ASP function to convert the date to a sensible format. I think that's what I ended up doing though it's been a while since I used ASP.

Yet another reason to NOT like XP.

Quote: Since when does Windows XP suck? Windows XP sucks IMHO because: [*]Infinite loop crashes which still haven't been fixed (Via/nvidia issue but it doesn't happen under Win2k). [*]USB devices randomly being dropped (probably a Via issue but it doesn't happen under Win2k) [*]Web view removed - okay, many people don't like it but I do and it annoys me that MS didn't give us the choice [*]Explorer randomly locking media files - happens with mp3, avi, anything really, only way to delete/rename/move the files that get locked is to kill explorer and use the command window [*]Simple File Sharing and other stupid things enabled by default - okay these can be disabled, but many people don't know where the options to disable them are and so get confused (eg. a win98 user migrates to winXP and can't figure out how to password protect shares - with simple file sharing you just can't) [/list:u]

    Norton Personal Firewall

Quote: What pisses me off is that when you have ICS enabled, the client computer HAS to have dynamic IP on. Well it shouldn't need to have dynamic IP on (unless Norton is doing something silly) - just set the IPs manually and set primary DNS and gateway on the clients to 192.168.0.1 Otherwise, if you do have to use dynamic IPs, since your client PC is being assigned such a silly IP address, you should look into making sure that your DHCP server is working correctly.
  12. You use a piece of packet-writing software like Ryoko suggested (eg. Nero InCD etc). This let's you treat the CD-RW as a hard drive (effectively). Then all you need to do is create a simple batch file to copy the files across and schedule it to be run in task scheduler.

    F5 option durning setup?

SMP is Symmetric Multi-Processor which is used by machines with more than one processor. As for I486 I really don't know. Standard PC is for any PC which does not support ACPI and is not multi-processor. As to which one is chosen by setup if you don't press F5 - well that depends on the computer! By not pressing F5, setup tries to guess which HAL to use. By pressing F5 you get to tell it which HAL to use. Just a case of manual or automatic.

Via chipsets & 2k hiding drives in Bios

Quote: I'm tring to hide the drive in the Bios! Award V6 KT-133 chipset. How the O/S can see somrthing that the Bios doesn't is beyond me! Simple, because Windows accesses the hard drive controller directly rather than asking the BIOS for the info. It's been done this way since Win95 and happens with all motherboards. DOS however does it the other way, it gets the info from the BIOS. As to why Microsoft chose to do this, well that's anyone's guess.

    Final Fantasy VII crashing

Given the number of people wanting to run this game in Win2k and/or WinXP (search this forum alone and you'll find quite a few threads), Eidos Interactive would really do some good publicity for themselves by bringing out a patch to fix the problems. Sadly I think they're really beyond caring what people think about them. Quote: did you all ever think that it could be just a flaw in the game? it could be a flaw that no one ever relized. there is m y 2 ents Well yeah! Quite probably FF7 used some nasty hacks in Win98 which don't work in a less forgiving NT-based OS.

    ff7

FF7 will never work totally under either Win2k or WinXP (unless someone releases a patch - which is sooo not going to happen). The chocobo races will always crash out straight away. I've never had any problems with the other mini-games, though I know some people have. Basically your options are: install dual-boot with Win9x or give up and don't play the game. EDIT: Yeah, this is not true any more since some extremely clever person wrote an unofficial patch to fix this bug.
