I have the strangest of problems, well, it's strange cause I have never seen it before =) Every time I stick something into my usb, I need to install it - again - even though it has been installed before, several times I should add. For example, I several times a day plug in the 360-controller into the comp (for various reasons I can't have it in all the time), also the wacom board, some times a mem-stick and so on. All these things need to be installed, you now the process, "search on the net" or "manually" and so forth. The process for the wacom board is insanely tiering, since it has so many driver parts it needs... Is there a setting that controls this? It's XP Pro, latest updates on a "new" dual core 1.6. I don't have the problem at home and have never seen it before. Thanks in advance.

Hello. (might be wrong section, sorry if) This is a "Xp Home" thread. Sometimes I help my neighbour with her computer. This time, it was kinda hard. Norton internet Security 2004, broke (don't know why), so it needed to be reinstalled, the problem is now, that I can't uninstall it, because when I try, it says that I need administrator rights, I have that, so what's the problem. The computer is without any protection right now, because I can't reinstall it because I can't remove the old one. Odd.

Yes, I can delete them, but I don't want them to be created by the app by default. I hate them, and I don't need any FP exts. I still like FP 2003 though Thanks in advance.

Hmm, as everybody knows, the IDE-bus goes through the PCI subsystem, but the SATA on the KT600 is native and goes direct to the southchipset. Normaly when you are on a LAN and your friend copies a very large file from you, the system is getting slow, cause, I think the network card, which also goes though the PCI slows the HDD, as they are limited to the same bandwidth. But in the same situation, I would use a SATA drive, connected to the native SATA on the KT600 board, I suppose I wouldent get the same slowdown? True or False? Hope you understood what I tried to say. Im not very good at english.

LAN speeds and SATA on KT600, compared to any other chipset
Hipshot replied to Hipshot's topic in Hardware
Quote: The lan bandwidth + the hard drive bandwidth + everything else on the PCI son't be close to full, even when doing a highres video capture on a pci card, you still have plenty of room. nothing is fast enough to tax it. If a pci card didnt do bus mastering right and was making your cpu wait alot, then in theory it could slow it down. In practice thugh, it should not. Still I dont know why the 10Mbit nic dont slows the computer, when the 100 does... -
LAN speeds and SATA on KT600, compared to any other chipset
Hipshot replied to Hipshot's topic in Hardware
Ok, but Im not talking firewall here, just plain old LAN with some friends and no security Also im pretty sure I've seen speeds faster than 8 on my NIC, cause 100Mbit would be 12.5 MB as a peak, when I was on Dreamhack (Major LAN (5000 people) in sweden) I had numbers on like 10-11MB/s. You must agree that there is a sagnifient slowdown when somebody copies from you, right? And I suppose this is because all HDDs, system and then the NIC on top of this is using the PCI bus, the PCI bus is capable of 33mhz, 133MB/s (I think) but since a normal (P)ATA drive today only can read/write from 24-55MB/s the NIC would use a bit from that, then the system and so on, all this would slow down the system pretty much, and this is also why when using a 10Mbit NIC the system isnt getting slow, cause they peak at ~1MB/s, that is very slow. This is just what I think, since I havent got my KT600 or my Western Digital Raptor, I cant test it, and maybe I have wrong Im no expert, but I build alot of computers and have a good general knowledge so the ide cant be totaly crazy -
Very impressed with my FX5900, let me explain ;-)
Hipshot replied to dayspringUK's topic in Hardware
I got a 5900 to, and for that price I'm amazed, it rocks the house. Must say that the FX5700 Ultra, 5900 series, and the 5950 really brings Nvidia back, since the 5700 U is faster than a 96Pro/XT and a 5900 is better then a 9700Np/Pro in many fields. Of course the ATI cards might perform better with DX9 and AA and AF, but thats just because NV didnt work to well with MS under the development of the FX series, thats why the FX5800 sucked so much. I belive that the NV40+ series will be better then any radeon, even the new R420 in every aspect, but you never know, maybe nvidia is suppose to be second in the super-top from now... -
Where might I find that? I got one for windows XP, or are they the same?
-
When I used the 40xx version I had a reg file that unlocked the drivers so that I could overclock through them. But now I dont think that file will work, anyone know how I can do? Just picked up a FX59 and that card seriously rocks my house, but I want to test the limits a little. Thanks in advance

Hmm, if I make a texture myself, what is that called then? I mean, if I shoot a picture with my digiacam, and make a texture from it, then it can be called a photorealistic texture, but what should the one I make with a brush in photoshop be called? Artificial?
-
Hmm, that is a word I can use, never thought about it actually... looks good to
-
hmm... it would look strange, if I wrote just textures and then photoreal... I think I'll write non-photoreal

when you select a folder or file in windows, and presses the F2 button, then you can change the name, but I want to use the SPACEbar to do that, hwo can I change, and would there be any problems or conflics if I change? (When I select a file and presses SPACE nothing happens, so I thought I might just remap the key to the same as F2, just to make it easier for me)
-
Sorry, but this might be a stupid question, but where can I download the program, or is it included in xp pro already?
-
ah, hmm, ok. But I dont use that hehe Can I just switch the keys, so that select last file will be on f2 and rename on space?
-
Well, I really wanna do my own style, cause those that comes with the program dosent fit to my sheet I think, is it even possible to make a autoformat style, or are they hardcoded?

If I was to link to run through a shortcut, how would I do then? just typing run wont work, typing notepad works, is there even a 'run' thing, I hope you know what I mean, the little console you can reach via the start menu not to be mistaken for the command promt, or cmd for some.
-
ViolentGreen, im not sure what you mean, how can I drag that one to the desktop. just to clarify what I mean --> http://www.home.no/hipshot/run.gif (inside the red circle) nebus, Ive disabled x-shortcuts, so thats a no go. ---- update, I know why i couldent drag it Violentgreen, cause Im using the oldschool simple and neat start menu look, you cant drag from that, tested the new xpish menu, and worked fine, thanks.

Heard that from a friend and I also heard that this was just in the earlier versions of windows 9x, like 95 and 98 (not SE).

Quote: Too find the uptime simply type systeminfo in a CMD prompt, its nearer the top of the list of rubbish you get from typing this Silly of me, I know that command, just dint remember it when I started the thread... the Q still stands though, will the counter resets itself after ~7weeks ?
-
acctualy Im not to run a server, im just going to test how long I can have my laptop online on irc before it hangs, its up to 7 days now, no slowdown so far... You can see the time with sisoft sandra application and for example moo.dll, but im sure there are a promt cmd to use to, really dont know it, really would like to know it

heh sorry I meant 7 Weeks and 12 Hours

Hi, Ive just instaled XP on my neighbours Compaq computer, the thing is that before I instaled XP the modem worked prefect, it was possible to connect and everything, now, even if all the information regarding passwords and connect numbers are correct the modem wont dail, it just gets the error 630 I think... Why is this like that, cause I had the same problem on my own computer, a computer Ive build my self with a totaly diffrent modem and in a totaly diffrent place in this contry, is there a XP problem with modems? (no, SP1 is not instaled yet) Thanks for _any_ help
-
Well, I know that compaq sucks known that for years now, to bad my neihbour dont get that well, Ill just use the restore disk and take the computer back a few years
