Maniac: I am aware of the proper way to boot off a SCSI CD-ROM. Please re-read my post. My point was that there are other reasons for the CD boot to not work.

Nice ignorant coment about not being able to boot from the CD. Mine does not work and my copy of win2k is a retail boxed version. I have an Abit Ka7, AHA 2940UW host adapter with a HDD and the CD-ROM on it. It is a known issue with my hardware combo.(the ry bios was suposed to fix this issue, but did not for me). Preacher: even with my system I do get some some hard drive "thrashing". I even got an out of vitual memory message last night while playing. It was not true (I had plenty of VM and real RAM free), but it displayed the message and my HDD started to freak out. The thing is it only happens to me after I have been running the game for a while, so it makes me thing there is a memory leak or some other kind of resource managment problem. Norton ghost works fine for NT 5.0/w2k. Just put it on a bootable flopy and start ghost from dos. It will let you select the distination partition size. Check out the FAQ on Blizzard's website. I was getting anoyed with a similar problem and it was just my cd-rom drive changing tracks. You can copy the music file from the "play" cd to your d2 install dir. to solve this problem. I upgraded to the rx bios on my KA7 and have no problems with my SCSI card. sapiens26: So, you ran the .inf setup then went into safe mode and replaced the viaagp.sys and appended the machine.inf? I would be interested to know the order you did it in. Our hardware is exactly the same.

When I install this INF it "breaks" AGP functionality. The device manager will show the AGP to CPU bridge now (lot of good that is when it does not work). When I install the drivers for my video card it hard locks the system (tried 2 different drivers and 2 video cards). I had to uninstall it from add/remove programs, uninstall the AGP to CPU bridge and let win2k reinstall the mainboard resources before I could successfully reinstall my AGP video card.
