Personally I do not think DX 8 build 183 is better... appears to be a little slower. Just my thoughts.

Did you do a clean install or a upgrade? IF you just upgrade reinstall HL (and the rest of your software)and go to seeting and select the driver mode you want. Should work, no problems at all using W2k with games.

I was just recently getting crackling noise/leaking with my SBL under W2k. I reinstalled DX and it corrected the problem. FYI: I installed DX8 146 which is the most recent build. I never remember having a problem with DX 7a. Hope this helps.

I use DX 8 with W2K SP 1 and no problems at all. To tell you the truth in CS the smoke looks real good and I do not lose and fps.

Buy the Live Platium only if you have the money and are planning on buying digital speakers. Beleive me both are worth every penny. You can hear people coming up from behind, the side, over head its really a cool gaming experince. Check over at creatives site or call sometimes they have great deals. I bought 4 SB live for $200.00 and the DTT 2500 for $225 total $425.00 In case your wondering I have 3 computers and gave one to a friend.

I use sp-1 works great. 190 megs and unpacks to 413 megs. Its a new OS. When its released it will be 63 megs. Works great with DX8....

Go to www.speedguide.net/cable/dsl there they all the answers for the links router.

Right click on start/explore and go the set folder of Flet commander. Install from there. If the game hangs for around 10 minutes it is okay. Should work from there. PS are you installing in Admin or Power user? PU may your best opition.

Use a router versus a hub. We can play HL/CS with up 8 people on cable with little problems. Each player will have to adjust thier rate once in the game. Thats is.
