In TweakUI, whenever I clear the "Prevent applications from stealing focus box", it never sticks. Windows always is preventing applications from stealing focus, regardless of the state of that box. For example: I'll hit Win+R to bring up the run box, but it'll just sit there and flash at me. I can't type anything into it until I click on it ( really ****ing annoying ). Or also, I'll hit control alt delete, and the windows security window sits there, blinking at me dumbly and i have to click on it. Win2k, SP2, all the windows updates and such, etc.

Win2k Pro SP2 ASUS A7V TBird 800 AGP slot: GF2 GTS PCI #1: empty PCI #2: empty PCI #3: SB Live (3300a drivers) PCI #4: Linksys HPNA 2.0 adapter PCI #5: Linksys 10/100 NIC HPNA = home phoneline networking. 10mbps over the two unused copper pairs of traditional phone wiring. I've got my family's computer running Win98 downstairs with ICS through a dialup modem. It works well except after extended use, my HPNA NIC loses the connection for a second - it says "Network cable unplugged" near the tray for a couple of seconds, and then it gets the connection back. Usually it can recover, sometimes it doesn't. If I turn the 98 machine off, it says cable unplugged as well, since it's a peer to peer network. Is it something with the PCI latency on this computer, or just 98 fubar'ing up?

Anyone had any experience with these? PSX controllers are easily the finest available, PC gamepads always seem to feel cheaply designed and lack a good button setup. Do the converters work alright in W2K?

Quote: I found that Win2K has crappy 2D acceleration by default install (under DX7 and IE). I recently did a new install and saw the same thing. When I upgraded to DX8 (now 8.1) and IE5.5SP1, my snappy 2D display speed returned. Not sure which is responsible or why, but both have code that is used to handle windows redraw on the desktop, so I recommend you update both of these two apps if you haven't already. BTW I am running both GF2MX on one W2K machine (BX chips) and the GF3 on another (VIA dual) under the 11.01 drivers (like you) and I am getting excellent 2D performance on both, so it is possible! Hope that helps, :} ACPI on or off? I've gotten great performance w/o ACPI but of course I like having my Tbird idle cooler so I don't burn it out so fast ;(

Hopefully someone on the board has had this problem. Obligatory hardware specs: Athlon 800 on Asus A7V 256MB PC133 SDRAM Creative Labs GF2 GTS Win2k SP1 Det 11.01 ACPI on So, um, I reformatted to turn ACPI on to idle a bit cooler degree-wise (shoulda saved my MP3s). Anyway, like 8 devices are sharing IRQ 9, per the silly ACPI spec, but I can't change any of them. In 3D games its fine, maybe even a tad faster. In Windows, 2D performance just blows. I see windows redrawing in front of me, its as if I'm using a pentium 133 with a crappy video card. It makes using the computer quite sluggish and frustrating. It never used to do this before, is it that damned ACPI? I wish there was a way to force certain devices to have IRQs. The video card sharing an IRQ is just very stupid.

Do any of these TV cards support blurring/interpolation? I'd like to play PSX games on the computer (ones that don't work with any emulators, namely FF7, FF8, and FF9) but am worried about the quality, my friend says it will show how crappy the PSX graphics are since they are 320x240. Filtering the image would alleviate this a bit.

Crikey, you're right, I'm gonna look stuff up on it...I have my Explorer hooked up to the USB port, seems smoother than PS/2, but can you tell a difference? Not sure whether I'd want a superslick mouse cursor or higher FPS. Thanks.

Tried the patch out a bit with games, it made a nice difference in games, Tribes was nauseatingly fast indoors (either that or it was because I just woke up ) and I tried UT as well, I didn't see much improvement. Afterwards, however, I hard locked while using Internet Explorer, so I reverted back to Normal performance settings on my A7V. Any comments?

T-Bird 800 256MB PC133 RAM W2k Pro w/ SP1 Geforce 2 GTS SB Live Value Descent 3 hovers around 30-50fps and stutters wildly in some places, which is odd cuz I can get twice the FPS on my P2 333/V3 3000. Any ideas? Tried all of the graphics engines (OGL/D3D) and tried setting the resolution really low.

Who cares about the opinions of this guy? 1) He comes in and posts a topic like this, obviously to get attention 2) He's a member of clan BFG, and his name is something like DeStRoYer, sounds like a kewl d00d to me 3) He can't spell the s-word correctly 4) The overwhelming amount of factual evidence he provides for why Win9x is far superior to Win2k [/sarcasm] Take your juvenile flames elsewhere, we don't care what OS you use or why you switched. So now that you switched, does this mean you'll leave us alone? -
My system: Asus A7V w/ BIOS v1003 T-bird 800 - no overclocking 256mb Corsair RAM 30g IBM ATA/100 drive w/ Promise drivers Creative Annihilator 2 Nvidia Ref. drivers 5.22 W2K Pro Std PC setup VIA AGP VxD Etc, etc. The NIC and the USB hub are sharing IRQs, but that's unavoidable. I've tried most of the stuff on GeForceFAQ.com and it still locks randomly in games, mostly in OpenGL Tribes. Any suggestions?

Ugh, this is frustrating. I came from an Asus P2B (440BX) with a P2 333mhz system that *never* crashed. I got a 98 crash every once in a while, but 2000 never crashed. I also used a Voodoo3 in it. I'm not used to tweaking my card as much as I have to now. Sadly, I can't say the same about my current system. Config: Standard PC - ACPI disabled in W2K setup Asus A7V rev. 1.01 M/B (no jumpers) BIOS v1.03 Athlon T-bird 800mhz with heatsink (temp. stays around 91 degrees farenheit) 256MB PC133 Corsair RAM GeForce 2 GTS 32meg (Annihilator 2) 5.22 Detonator drivers Linksys 10/100 PCI card 30.7 IBM Deskstar HD on Ultra ATA/100 controller with Promise W2k drivers Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM SB Live - LiveWare 3 USB Intellimouse Explorer MS Nat. Keyboard Pro Via 4 in 1 4.23 drivers installed AGP at 2x Here is what I have tried: Extra cooling. Latest Det drivers - 5.32. GeForce FAQ site tips Notes: In diablo 2, twice I've gotten CD read errors (event log) that claimed an error occured during a paging operation. Crashes always lock the machine hard, requiring a restart. IRQ 5 is being shared between the Ethernet card and the USB hub. Problem there? I can't change either of the device's IRQ settings. PS/2 mouse keeps being detected even though I don't have one hooked up. System info file: http://www.mattgreen.org/temp/shiva.nfo Also, I'm running Norton Antivirus 2000 in the background. Could I hook up a Matrox Millenium PCI and a GeForce 2 to a single monitor, using the Millenium for 2D and the GeForce for 3D? Several people have commented that the Geforce is notorious for poor 2D quality at higher resolutions. The monitor I'm looking to get is the Sony G400, which has two inputs.

The MX400 CD has Win2k drivers on it. Look in the WinNT folder, and then in the WDM folder I believe.

Hmm, the config applet is nice, but I can't use Glide in Tribes. It kept insisting I had two monitors hooked up, which isn't the case, I wish it was 8)
