Hey guys, A few days back I had this problem - my web pages were loading VERY slowly. I had this problem before, and at that time I just updated my LAN card drivers as was suggested on tweakxp.com. That fixed it at that time. But the other day, I couldn't get anything to work. And I know it was a problem with my computer, because my roommate's worked fine (T1 line at college). Then I looked on tweakxp.com again, and found this - http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=806 I tried that and it gave some error - so instead of "C:\>del "%systemdrive....", I typed "C:>del "%systemdrive" I THINK. Anyway, it didn't work right away, but the slowness finally went away. BUT, now I have found that it loads MANY webpages from an old file. I have found it even does this at some sites that I have not even visited before! And when I click refresh or F5, it doesn't even load the new page! I have to hit CTRL + F5 for it to load the newest page. I have deleted my temporary internet files, and have IE set to load the newest page "Every visit to the page". Does anybody have any suggestions on what I could do? Has anyone had this problem? I really have no idea what to do. Thank you very much for any help you can provide. Brad

Hi, Obviously I don't know exactly what I'm talking about here, so bear with me. Here's what I need: I am a college student and I register for classes using a program that the university provides. In order to register, we just have to enter a number of the class. So I'm all signed up for classes, but I just want this one other class. So...I figure all I need is some program to type the following - "a12345 'enter'". I need it to do this over and over, because the class is full and I want to have the next slot if one opens. Those 5 keys are the only ones I need to be pressed....is there any way to do this? What I just said: does it make sense? I just need a program to press the "a" key, then the "1" key, etc. Is this possible? If anybody could give me a clue on this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks! Brad

Hi, Here's the story. I switched motherboards and did not reformat. I sold my other motherboard. I am dual booted (WinME and WinXP) and find that when I boot into WinXP, I automatically get a BSOD and have to restart. It will not let me into the OS AT ALL. Not with safe mode, or anything! But I can work in WinME. Now, due to a bad ebay transaction, I need to get to some of the email messages that I sent and received when I was using WinXP. Is there any way to do this? How can I access my WinXP Outlook Express messages when in WinME? If anyone has any suggestions, please enlighten me! Thanks! Brad

You guys are awesome! Thank you both! It is FAT32, so I just copied them over...that was easy. Brad

Yeah, I tried the new 23.11's too. No luck. I even tried this patch - http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=13&threadid=4123 Brad

Waza, I think I've done it all, and I just tried your suggestions. It didn't work. Thanks for trying though. I set it to 2x instead of 4x, installed VIA AGP drivers, installed VIA 4in1 drivers, and used the 21.83 drivers. Brad

Haha...aren't computers great? (a rhetorical question...they suck! ) Brad

so my game will work fine with win2k?

Exactly, dosfreak. This problem is getting WORSE instead of better!!!! I ONLY had this problem when playing Max Payne at first. In an effort to fix that, I started getting the BSODs in Windows when not playing games - just out of the blue. It was infrequent, but bothersome nonetheless. Now, I get them ALL the time when I play Madden NFL 2002. It is starting to piss me off.......WHY?!?!?!?! Don't tell me I'm gonna have to install Windows 98SE. This is bullshit. I just want it to work!!!!!!! Brad

I just updated my SBLive drivers with the new ones that are now out. And switched to the 23.10 Dets. Now, I didn't get the BSOD in Max Payne, BUT it did freeze....just didn't get the error message....oh well. Brad

Hi, In my device manager, I have this yellow question mark (meaning it is not installed correctly) in the "other devices" category. The branch under it that supposedly has the problem is "USB Host to Host Bridge". What is this? Should I do something to remedy the problem? Thanks for any help you can give! Brad

I had made a reference to this in another thread, but this is really starting to make me mad. I get a checkerboard BSOD telling me that I have an infinite loop problem, etc. Why does this happen? Is it an XP problem? Other people have this problem, evidently, because I've heard it mentioned. It is weird, because I had previously only seen it when I played Max Payne. It will happen every time. Then it happened twice the other night. Then twice again tonight. Very annoying when I am doing something important. Any light on this? Thanks guys. Oh, I've tried a couple different drivers....I have the 21.83's now, I think. Brad

I just started a new post on this, but forgot to search. One question: Has anyone asked about soundcard conflicts in all of this? You guys know a hell of a lot more than me, but I thought I had this problem ONLY in Max Payne. (Turned out to be wrong...) But, I could make it happen all the time when playing that game. I tried taking out my soundcard...NO BSOD. So I thought there was a soundcard/video card conflict only in this game. Do the people that don't have problems have a Soundblaster soundcard? Maybe if you post the soundcard you use, we could narrow it down. I am using a SoundBlater Live! 5.1 X-Gamer. Another idea, at least... Brad

My friend got his mobo toasted and the surge protector company paid for the new one...something to check out... Brad

Yeah, what is this infinite loop crap?! I have a geforce3 ti200 and I get that every now and then....happens all the time in Max Payne (I've given up trying) and it happened TWICE the other night when I was typing a paper! Hadn't seen it before and haven't seen it since....I didn't know other people had these problems... Brad

Hey guys, I don't know if you are interested in this, but if none of you are, where is a good place to put it up for sale? ebay? should I buy a hard drive, floppy, cd rom, and modem and sell it as a system? It has an AMD Athlon 500mhz processor and MSI MS-6167 motherboard 256mb pc133 ram Soundblaster Audio PCI soundcard TNT2 w/ TV out video card The case is as I bought it - from Cybermax (out of business now), and a 250watt power supply. Nothing has been overclocked...it is all put together... That's it. Let me know...feel free to email me at bahearn@uiuc.edu if you have questions. I don't have a digital cam, or I would post pics. Brad

I was home this past week for Thanksgiving and forgot about this thread. I haven't heard back from you, pbuckne. Are you still interested? Anyone else? Don't make me go to ebay! Brad

Hey guys, I can't get Max Payne to run. With the 22.80 drivers it froze and gave a weird screen with lines and stuff. Switched to 21.83 and it exits to the desktop when I try to start a new game or whatever. Anyone know what could be happening? I've tried many, many things...exiting all programs, etc. Specs: K7T266 Pro-RU (MS - 6380) motherboard AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor 256 MB 2100 DDR Ram GeForce 3 Ti 200 Video Card Soundblaster Live! Didn't work....man, this is frustrating. Reinstalled the driver's from Creative's website...no difference. How is this possible?!?! Brad
-
Took the soundcard out, and no problems! God, I hate Creative. I have a SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 X-Gamer that I downloaded the newest drivers for (from Creative). But when I go to Windows Update, it gives me a driver to install for my soundcard. Maybe I should try that one? This makes no sense to me. Brad

Hi, I'm not sure what "version" it is....I know it's not the M64 or whatever the cheap version of it was called. I wish I could take a picture of it for you! There are 2 stickers on it. One says: -------------------- A14578 TnT Vga/TV 9934 49306 ASSYNO: 06 REV: A ASSEMBLED IN USA SERIAL NO. A14578 -------------------- The other says: ----------------- VGA-TNT2A/32SDC ----------------- I hope that tells you something! Please, feel free to email me with any other questions you might have. We might get faster response times.... Thanks! Brad bahearn@uiuc.edu

Hi, I have ICQ and I set it to load at startup of Windows. I've had this setup before. And it worked fine. Well, now when Windows XP start up, it says it cannot connect to ICQ. But then I try to connect and it works fine. I guess that lead me to the conclusion that ICQ tries to load before my internet connection (LAN, T1 line) is recognized. I have heard that WinXP loads faster - one reason being that it is still loading in the background...so I guess it loads ICQ, then my internet connection. So, does anyone know how to fix this? You guys are smart; I'm sure someone knows. Thanks! Brad

Ok, I dloaded and installed that BatchMan program...but I have NO idea how to work the darn thing. Also, I find it strange that when I have to restart by pressing the button on the front of my PC (because of it freezing) that ICQ loads up as it should...strange. Brad
