anyone try Nvidia 7.17 drivers ?

i haven't had any trouble with them, running dx8 build 219, but the only games i've tried have been q3 and cataclysm. they do seem slower in q3 and occasionally the res and colour depth reset on the desktop but that's about it.

    hibernate and standby don't work

did you install the latest gateway sblive drivers that were posted here a few days ago? i did and have had problems hibernating since, but i haven't changed them back to see if it helps yet
  4. i have recently installed linux on a partition on my hard drive, and so as to be able to access it from windows 2000 i've instaleld an ext2 driver. the driver works perfectly, but windows insists on creating a recycle bin on the linux partition, and then complaining that it is corrupt whenever i empty the main recycle bin. i've tried deleting the file but it re-creates it, i've tried setting the recycle bin options to 'configure drives independantly' but the linux partition isn't listed. any ideas how to remove the recycle bind from there permanently?

    Change the start menu button

i use a funky little proggy called TClock it allows you to change the start menu button picture and text, as well as alter the clock and loads of other stuff too. [This message has been edited by *Iblis* (edited 25 September 2000).]

    System Tray icons....

you might need to copy the explorer.exe into the winnt/servicepackfiles directory as well to stop it getting replaced by the SFC (if you're running sp1 of course)

    Deleting Recycle bin

nope, no _restore. i've given up and just told it to delete files straight off, and not put them in the recycle bin, then deleted the icon as above.

    Deleting Recycle bin

cheers for that, but i would like to keep a recycle bin for the other drives, just not for that partition

  12. you know how some of the cursors in windows can be inverse (that is they display the opposite colour to what they are over, such as the defulat text-select cursor), well since installing intellipoint 3.2 (i think) they have stopped working, any inverse cursor shows up as just black. i've tried uninstalling intellipoint and reinstalling 3.1, but no luck. any ideas?

    Win2000 and VIA IDE Drivers---------anyone?

i believe that the VIA IDE drivers are for win9x/me only, and windows 2000 doesn't require them

    3dMark2000 -- Is this right?

my scores in 3dmark2000 were very low, but then i realised the proggy was doing summat very strange, while watching the tests the framerates were far higher than those that were reported at the end, looks like it's got a bit confused
  15. since installing SP1 i have noticed some very strange results from these two programs, WCPUID recognises my processor as running at somewhere between 0.5 and 6MHz (changes each time i click analyse) and occasionally gets it right at 749MHz. 3DMark2000 also seems to have problems, believing my processor to be running at 200MHz, and giving results which do not tally with the test that were run (test will show it's running at around 75fps, 3dmark will repot it running at 20fps) i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem since installing SP1, i'm using the latest version of both programs (3DMark2000 1.1, WCPUID 2.8)

Bios Update for Asus K7M, anyone?

    nothing changed that i've noticed
  17. since installing intellipoint 3.2 i have had a problem with some of the cursors such as the text select and cross cursor. while previously they were a greyish colour that was easy to see on all backgrounds (were they that inverse type? i think so), now they are black, making it impossible to see them in certain situations. i have checked the cursors and nothing has changed with them. while currently i'm using some modified cursors so i can see them, soem applications such as Photoshop use their own cursors which have suffered a similar fate. has anyone else had this problem and if so, any solution? i've tried uninstalling intellipoint and going back to version 3.1 which used to work fine, but no luck.

NTFS or FAT 32? - Which is best?

i too was under the impression that NTFS was faster than FAT32, try looking for some hard-drive reviews that do both NTFS and FAT32 tests, i think you'll find NTFS comes out on top

    a load of questions...

i've tried unchecking that box already, icon's still there disabling the network card does the trick, so that'll do for the moment until i get the network set up. cheers for the idea about the services, problem is, the program i've got needs to run in dos, not windows, so i've really got to get it to run before windows even loads. cheers for your help so far tho

    Running autoexec.bat?

Is there any way to get windows to run a batch file on boot-up like win9x used to do with autoexec.bat? I need the file to be run before windows is loaded.

    Vampire The Masquerade and W2K

Read this somewhee, thought it might help "Got a program that's refusing to run or install in Windows 2000 but you wanna do it anyway? Well here's how you trick your apps: 1. Insert your Windows 2000 CD. 2. Go into the Support folder. 3. Load the APCOMPAT.EXE file. 4. Select the OS you need to use, for example Windows 98. 5. In the "Start the following program" point it to the location of the setup file you wish to run. 6. Click Ok."
