    3D Mark 2000 1.1

I have a big problem with my system: Under Win98SE I had 5300 3D marks in Default Benchmark with HW TnL. Now I have Win2K and I get 4300 with HW TnL. The Problem is... if i switch to P3 ISSE TnL I get 4400 points... It wasn't like this under Win98SE, ISSE was at 4400 there too, but HW TnL of my GeForce DDR was way faster. I also got a 10% performance hit in Quake 3 (10x7x32bit HQ++) from Win98 to Win2k and in other games it's the same. I read in some posts and in test articles that Win2K is not all that much slower, so what's problem? I used Detonator 5.22, 5.25, 5.30 and it was the same with all of them. Do I have to reinstall Win2K or something? ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, Creative GeForce DDR, SBLive (never had any problems with it, yet. Liveware 2K works very fine for me), 15 GB IBM, Gigabyte BX2000@133, WinTV primio, Pioneer DVD 10x, Iiyama VM 451 (1280x1024@100Hz .

    LiveWare 3 and Diablo 2

I had those pauses occuring quite frequently before I added 64mb to a total of 224mb RAM to my system (had to switch to 600E again because of the 8ns RAM... I wonder... My PC66-10ns Hyundai RAM works fine with 133 MHz). I don't know why that changed it because I never have/had HDD accesses during the pauses, but I'm fine now ___ Just beat Diablo 2nd time, first with a Necro, now with a Barbarian. BTW: Playing Multiplayer with 2 Sorceresses sucks: One casts a lot of Meteor, the other one Blizzard and I can't see anything anymore. If I'm lucky I'm not dead afterwards .... . ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, Creative GeForce DDR, SBLive (never had any problems with it, yet. nvidia tech demo wont run

A friend of mine can run it under Win2K, but he has a Asus Geforce 2 GTS. It doesn't work with my Geforce256 DDR. I think it's because they use Per-Pixel-Shading in that demo and the Geforce256 is not supposed to be able to do that (actually it is just too slow as far as I heard). ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, Creative GeForce DDR, SBLive (never had any problems with it, yet. LiveWare 3 and Diablo 2

I get those pauses, too. Problem is though, I am usually in a big fight when that happens, when it's over, my Necro is usually dead I havent dl'ed Liveware 3.0, yet so it's (probably) not caused by that. ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, Creative GeForce DDR, SBLive (never had any problems with it, yet. LiveWare! Driver update for win2k.

I never had any problems either. It would be a good idea if the people that have a Live post their system stats and write if they have a problem or not (and what) so we can see if there is some connection there. ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, Creative GeForce DDR, SBLive (never had any problems with it, yet. Poor GeForce performance

Hey Gosu tester over there. You are right. A TNT2 is not all that slower than a GeForce in 16bit. But did you ever try 32bit? Or High Poly situations? I guess not, or else you would have noticed the big performance hit with the TNT2 and the slight one with the GeForce...

Lets Get to the Bottom of This!

I also got random lock ups..., I don't know if you have the same problem, but I sent my machine to the vendor and he just put the Voodoo 3 jumper on giving my GeForce some more juice. In the end, I had to pay 15 $ because "my system did work ok" and I was left without the random lockups =) Maybe it's your Motherboard, like mine, that doesn't support the voltage necessary for the GeForce, maybe it's your power supply (considering that an Athlon uses a lot, but who am I talking to, you know that I guess). So if you get the chance to try out a bigger Power Supply, well, do it. ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, Creative GeForce DDR, SBLive (never had any problems with it, yet. Convert FAT to FAT32

With Partition Magic you can go back, alhtough I do not see why you would want to. I think you can even switch between NTFS and FATXX ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 , 160mb PC100 3-3-3, SBLive, 15 GB IBM, Gigabyte BX2000@133, WinTV primio, Pioneer DVD 10x, Iiyama VM 451 (1280x1024@100Hz .

Video cards and 89 MHz AGP bus

Don't try Savage 2000. I tested two of them and they did not run at anything above 75 MHz.

    "Stutter ??" in Win2k

Did the error occur with the Bus at less than 152MHz (probably means PCI @ 1/4 so 38MHz) ? Im sure you tried, just wanted to make sure.. It might be the NIC that doesn't accept such speeds. Just try removing all cards except the graphix card and then adding one after another. If you already did all this I cannot help you . DUN errors

I dont know what ISPs youre using, but with mine it takes about .5 sec with a 56K. I used others before that took 5 days (nah, just 20sec or so). And I ->guess<-, the errors are transmission errors when you send and receive data. Im not sure on that. ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800 (slot 1), SBLive, 15 GB IBM, Gigabyte BX2000@133, WinTV primio, Pioneer DVD 10x, Iiyama VM 451 (1280x1024@100Hz .

Will Win2k Gameplay always be slower?

My experience is this: drop of framerate in Q3 of ~10 fps (down from 60 to 50 in 1024 or from 35 to 25 in 1280 (no o'c-ing)). I was thinking about investigating here, but I dont think its worth it. 50 fps is great, too. I didnot have any probs with half-life, yet (three weeks..). I started out with 1.0.1.6 and I never encounetered errors (other than that the server I was formerly playing on host randomly kicked users...). ------------------ My system specs: PIII 600E @ 800, SBLive, 15 GB IBM, Gigabyte BX2000, WinTV, Pioneer DVD, Iiyama VM Pro 451 (1280x1024@100Hz .

    Auto Reboot !

You can tell W2K how to behave in case there is an error it cannot handle. You can choose a reboot and/or various memory "saves" (dont know how its called in the english version...). You can change this if you go into the System Ops menu (right click my computer and then properties or so) and then the last tab. Hope this helps...
  17. I tried out the settings in the Options Menu in the Display settings for my Geforce (Det2) and set it to Discrete Monitor Timing. Now I cannot switch it back because... everytime I do it, I get a blue screen (read at 0x0000000 or so). And by the way, can someone tell me how to get refresh rates other than 75 Hz in OpenGL or Direct 3D (my monitor has 115KHz, this sucks....)

Options Menu with Det 2 crashes W2K

I do have a Soundblaster Live, but I have a BX2000 from Gigabyte. I tried numerous driver installs, but nothing helped. I don't want to reinstall W2K since I did not have any other crash, yet (have it installed and running for 3 weeks now, every program works). Oh and I searched through the posts of the last 60 days and I finally found a description of how to edit what inf. Thx. I also looked into a lot of FAQs to find the info, but I couldn't. Value WinTV primio Pioneer 10x DVD Iiyama Vision Master 451 with the monitor's driver installed. [This message has been edited by Iasius (edited 12 June 2000).]
