    I think WindowsXP looks lame

One thing that makes it an enticing upgrade is the speed increase. It boots in 30 seconds on my machine, while 2000 would take 2 minutes. Speed increase is the major reason for 2000 lovers to upgrade to XP. Yes, it's a tiny upgrade. It's just like the upgrade from Windows 95B to Windows 98, or Windows NT 3.1 to Windows NT 3.5. Personally I don't even see the reason they released Windows ME, just should've waited almost a year and gone with Windows XP instead.

    Still weary on 2454 Activation

Yep the crack works. I jumped my clock ahead a month, about a week ago to make sure, and jumped it back. It still complains about needing to be activated every night at 11:00 pm on my machine, but it still works after 14 days.

    Windows Media Player 8

Nope, just don't use WMP8. It's not like you have to use the crappy program. Just use Winamp and Windows Media Player 6.4.

Very easily. Right click on the desktop, choose arrange icons, and select Lock items on desktop and the "for testing purposes" text will go away.

    Windows XP 2428 Doesn't start.

Thanks. It was my ISA modem that was stalling it. Weird. XP is working nicely now. Well except for no TV and no DVD, but that's ATi's f-ing fault for their cruddy drivers.

    Windows XP 2428 Doesn't start.

I just started to install Windows XP build 2428 on my machine and it won't get past the Starting Windows Whistler part in the non-GUI setup. I've had this problem with earlier builds, 2416 and 2257. Beta 1 (2296) was the only version that actually booted on my machine. I tried the supposed fixes for this problem. I yanked out my two network cards and disabled USB in my BIOS but still da nada. Any one have any idea on how to fix this? Windows Whistler to be Windows XP.

That's a nice theory on the Windows NT naming, but it doesn't hold water since NT's first name was OS/2 NT, so it'd be ONT.

Ok then, just what soundcard is the better 3D one in W2K?

The Live! drivers for Windows 2000 are and always have been WDM. Personally I've never had any problems with my Live! in Windows 2000, 98 or 95. I've had it for 2 1/2 years and not a single problem.

    Whistler 2257....

Yes there was. It was the consumer NT project that got merged with the business NT project to make Whistler. I'm trying to figure out when the kernel stoped working on my machine.

    Whistler 2257....

Has anyone installed Whistler on a K6-2? It doesn't want to start the NT kernel on the setup portion. It just sits there saying Starting Windows Whistler. I've had the same problems with the last two releases. I haven't tried Neptune, but I'm running Windows 2000 just fine now. What could they have done to the kernel to make it just not like my computer anymore.

    Red Alert win95 version

Oops double post, sorry. [This message has been edited by elomire678 (edited 17 August 2000).]

    Red Alert win95 version

Here's how you do it. First you NEED the Aftermath or Counterstrike add-on (they provide a Windows NT compatible .exe file). You have to install the game in Windows 9x, install the add-on, and then you can run the game in Windows 2000. You will lose network support in the game though. If you try to run Red Alert without the add-on installed it'll come up with a "This .exe is not a valid Win32 program" error. So you need the add-on.

WinTV just nixed my fragile stability

Use the VFW drivers, as far as I know the WDM ones don't work quite right with Windows 2000.

Liveware 3 for Win2k , is it worth the install???

Don't have any problems with it, the sound coming out of my system is actually crisper and clearer in comparision to LW3 on Win9x. I'm happy with it.

    Whistler

I have an interesting problem with Windows Whistler. Build 21xx (I think it was 2130, can't remember the number exactly)and 2250 (the only builds I've tried) do exactly the same thing while installing. It gets to starting Windows 2000 and locks up, or just sits there forever. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
