don't know idf anyone can point me in the right direction but i'm not sure which version of windows 2003 server to buy. I am hosting co-lo with a hosting company and need to be able to run IIS SQL, coldfusion, asp, .net, php. plus i'd like to be able to remotely administer it as it's miles away. i am worried about certin versions saying that they are not domain controllers, not entirely sure this matters but i want to be able to have domains and sub domains for hosted web sites e.g. subdomain.maindomain.com etc.. I'm not expecting anyone to be able to answer this completly but a point in the right direction would be great, thanks.

Ok, great thanks very much for the info. sapiens, you seem quite set in small b'ness ed.... Is this your choice knowing that it is the OS of the server simply for hosting web sites (possibly lots of them), not actually for any regualar office type connectivity (disregarding the fact that i'd like to be able to remote admin it). -
I have a problem with my start menu, it has a reaction speed=0 i have never set this value under my current OS install and have tried on many occasions to set it back to 400ms however on reboot it always reverts back to 0 again. It happened on my last installation also (however i had set it to zero at one point and thought it had somehow got stuck at that). I cannot think which application i have installed that could be doing this and ininstalling all my apps, setting speed to 400ms then reinstalling seems an extreme step to take.. Anyone had a similar problem? as a method of troubleshooting does anyone know of an application that can log all registry writes from startup? or know how i can set my reg logger as the FIRST thing to load so i can find the culprit of my problem? thanks for taking your time to read the message

Quote: On machines that can run the game at 60fps the gameplay will still be exactly the same. More powerful hardware won't make all that much of a difference. thats what i meant, on machines that can keep up then the gameplay will be the same yeah, but computers that reach minimum spec dont always keep up with gta3, neither do some high spec machines.. glad we got that sorted..

Quote: Yes but no matter how powerful your PC is or how optimised it is for games that doesn't change the fact that GTA3 is exactly the same across both platforms so how can it play better on one over the other? what?? are you not listening to anyone??.. either i've got the complete wrong end of the stick (if so i appologuise) or you seem to be ignoring everyone.. If i had a p2 233 with 32MB ram and a riva 128, then you are trying to say that, the game will play exactly the same as it would on the PS2, are you being overly pedantic in your usage of the word "play"?? ;( the way i see it, if the game stutters then regardless if the game is exactly the same the playability of it will be lower than it could.... hmmm

gunner, try going into a poiant application and drawing a circle quite quickly with the cordless mouse then try it again with a usb corded mouse, and she the difference; granted not eveyone can notice but if you're use to having it on one then going down to a lower refresh hurts, i cant deal with the cordless ones (it was the ms one i tried others may be better) had to send mine back, i did get used to it after about an hor of play but then going back to my regular mouse (intelli expl) seemed so much more solid and with me.. for others interested in this phenomenon... cordless mice reviews read the usability section of this review as i say, just my opinion not gospel

another idea, if you're stilll on FAT then boot with a dos floppy and try to remove the file/folder that way... for those of you that have not experience this problem, take a floppy to a win95 98 me pc and create a file called com5 on it then try to remove the file form your w2k/ xp machine.. if you dont have access to a w9x machine, then just try creating a file/folder called com5 and you will notice it doesn't allow it..
-
i have had this problem before, but it was only the com5 file or folder that could not be deleted, it must be a protected name of some sort in windows.. i have posted this to several places, and it took nothing short of a format to remove component 5 of my university coursework from the dirve.. component 5 shortened to com5 was budging at all.. try deleing all the others first then see if it's just com5 that wont go anywhere, if so but after all this i dont actually have an answer for it... although i suppose you could make a new user profile, and just ignore it on desktop then (wont be on new user).. just a thought..

Aside from batteries wireless arent going to be that good for this purpose (gaming) as although the dpi on them is marked up as high on the box the refresh rate is very low due to the lack of physical connection-- more important than the battery problem i would say..

I have had an IBM 60GXP for over a year now, my pc is on at least 15hours per day, (when not 24/7) i dont have my drive set to idle, i have it inside a quietpc.com silencer (increases heat slightly) and i have not (touch wood) ever had a problem with my drive, just thought i would add this as it seems when ever something goes wrong with any hardware everyone jumps on the negative bandwagon, so i thought i'd share my experience..

Sounds silly but you know that disclaimer at tart that says "close all background progs" i actually tried that and it worked for me.. just while installing then it was fine..

Its most likely the fact that you are running SMP, it's a big problem with creative sblive drivers at the mo... read more about it in the sblive newsgroup

nVidia and the Asus P5A-B motherboard instability in Win2k
XkwiSit replied to DOScrash's topic in Hardware
At the end of the day all the cards that use the nvidia drivers seem to be suseptable to this, i have three systems at home, only one has an nvidia card, its the only one that crashes ni w2k, with nv4disp.dll, however upgrading to lw3 for w2k has reduced that error to a point that it no longer matters to me. Three friends of mine have nvidia cards, and two of those get that very same error.. seems pretty common to me. -
So lets get this straight, who has got the USB version of the wheel to work with gp3 under w2k?... i cant..
