I am running a dual boot machine for some time now and I recently upgraded to 1 Gig of RAM. This didn't cause any problems for Windows 2000. Everything booted just fine and things are great. When I try to boot into windows 98SE it gives me an error that windows failed to boot please restart your computer. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ------------------ System Specs: Asus P2B-D Dual PIII 700MHz 1 Gig PC100 CAS 2 RAM Hercules GeForce2 Pro 64MB Video Card Promise Ultra66 Controller WD 15.3 GB HDD ATA66 7200 RPM WD 20.5GB HDD ATA66 7200 RPM Asus 50x CD-ROM Sony 4x4x24 CD-RW SB Live! Yes...what we use are Wacom Tablets. They come in Serial port and USB versions. They are a great tool. They tend to be a little pricey, but they are worth every penny. Here is their website: Wacom Hope this helps!

I haven't had any of the experiences that Xiven seem to be having. I have used both of the sounds cards in WinXP. I originally had the Game Theatre installed and then decided to upgrade to the Audigy Platinum EX. The Audigy card is a nice sound card, but the sound quality was not as good and overall performance wasn't that great either. For $200 USD I was a little disappointed and ended up taking it back for a full refund and puting my Game Theatre back in! I have the hardware acceleration cranked up all the way and I haven't had a single hiccup since. I play tons of games with 5.1 sound and all is good. No pops, scratches, or problems at all. It is by far one of the best cards I have ever used. Two thumbs up! ; )

Max 2.5 on up worked fine for me on Win2K. I didn't have any problems. I am currently working with Max 3.1 and 4.02 and I don't have any problems with these at all.

I am using both 3D Studio Max 3.1 and 4.02 in Windows XP and I haven't had a single problem. I used to have the problems that you mentioned and it was caused by a faulty hardware dongle. You might want to check that out.

If what frogmaster said doesn't work for you. The only option might be to wipe out your 2ooo install and reinstall it fresh. That way there will be NO drivers to get conflicted with. Other than that I am stumped along with you.

hmmm.... This is a stumper. How about trying to uninstall the video card from the device manager and then rebooting and selecting specific drivers when it asks? Or doing the above only through safe mode. Sometimes it makes a difference sometimes it doesn't. Make sure that there is nothing lodged in your agp slot keeping the video card from fully seating into the slot. Worst case scenario go and get some drivers from nVidia and not leaked drivers and then reinstall windows. Almost always all the suggestions here have solved most of my problems. The fact that this is still persisting is a little strange.

Try this: *Download a version of nVidia drivers in a zip file. *Unzip to folder *Go into your VGA adapter properties dialogue. *Select either reinstall driver or update driver *Check the display a list of the known drivers for this device. *Then check the have disk button From here you just browse to the folder where you unzipped the files to and see if this works. I know that I have had a couple of machines do this to me and this was the only way to get the video card drivers to work. Happened with a GeForce2 Pro and a GeForce 3.

I am not really certain what category this falls under but here is what I am looking for. I am looking for a list of the top selling video cards for August? Or for any recent numbers or things like that. I am currently working on some softward that I will need to make sure that I test on all of the major gaming video cards. So if I could find a list of the most popular by sales that would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!

Cool...Thanks all for your input. I talked to the purchasing department and they are going to just let me recommend which cards to get so that will work out just fine. Thanks Again!

The app is a game. That is all I can say right now. What about compaq, ibm, and gateway. What are those machines coming equiped with. GeForce 2 MXs?
-
The application is OpenGL. But different video cards do things differently. For testing purposes I was hoping to find a publicized list of cards. I would then take this list to the purchasing department and say give me two of everything on the list. But I agree with you of the cards that you mentioned. I was also not certain about any of the Matrox cards.

This trick has worked for a couple of my friends and I really don't know why. Try turning your sound card to using emulation only. Sometimes, especially with the SB Live!, games get really bad performance. Like I said it worked for a couple of friends of mine and I still don't know why, because they had the latest and greatest SBLIve drivers and such. anyhoo...just a thought.

Actually a tech friend of mine works with a lot of older equipment as part of his job and anyways...he always uses compressed air and a VERY strong vacuum cleaner. Like a shop vac or something along those lines. Spray the compressed air down into the monitor stirring up the dust and at the same time turn on the vacuum hence sucking up a lot of the dust being stirred up. It has worked great for me. Sure beats taking the cover off!

If memory serves me right here, I think that you can pick up the machine gun when you get to those shop huts. Usually they had all of the different types of weapons there. I didn't really use that one too much so I can't remember. It has been awhile since I have finished it. I think I might go back and revisit giants. I loved that game!

Yeah it is a beautiful game. Wait until you get to some of the other worlds. They are incredible.

Worked for me right out of the box with no patch. D3D looks great. Great game. My system specs are listed below.

I know that feeling!! Between PS2, PC, DC, and N64 there is not much left for food!

Just for grins, where is everyone "calling" from?

I think video games are more of an outlet than a cause. just my 2 cents worth.

I remember that feeling!!! Congratulations!! *stands and applauds*

I have to go with the PIII on this one just because I do the Dual setup. Not only that but I love the old 440BX chipset. So not only do I get speed, but killer stability as well. Looking forward to the dual fosters!!

Please post system specs. Might be some problems in there. Get into contact with Discreet. I am sure that they would be more than happy to help walk you through any problems that you may be having. Their customer support is really good. Either that or I would go to the discreet 3D Studio Max forum. They have a special section dedicated to installation problems.

I have had this problem before. You have to log in as Administrator. NOT login as someone else with Admin control on that particular machine. I don't know why it does this, but this solved the problem for me.
