    Internet connection sharing

Hmmm....Linux would be hard to use. I have no experience in Linux so that would not work for me. I believe Win2k can do routing too. But I would have to setup a computer to do routing then. Can I connect DSL modem to Switch box's Uplink port? I have 5 port Switch and one port is Uplink port. And for Firewall, install software Firewall like BlackIce defender or something.

XP to Win2k is what ME was to Win98, junk...anybody agree?

I ran XP the other day on my Thunderbird 800 system w/ 256 mb PC-133 RAM and it wasn't running as fast as Win2k. I don't like XP based on that beta version (2428) so far. But I have not given up on XP yet. I will see the final version of XP before I make any judgements on XP. For now, I like Win2k better than XP. I haven't ran any games on XP yet so I don't know how much slower it is than Win2k. From my general usage, I am guessing it will be slower than Win2k. In case if you are wondering the full system spec that I installed XP on here it is: Abit KT7A Thunderbird 800 Crucial 256mb PC-133 Viper 770 Ultra 32mb IBM 30GB Ultra ATA-100 3Com 10 Mbit

    Will XP replace 2000?

Nicely said Widow. I installed XP the other day to see what it is like but overall. So far I like my Win2k better than XP. There are a lot of features that XP have that I like but for now I am sticking with Win2k.

    Serice Database is locked error

Why am I getting this error whenever I tried installing new video card driver? I am thinking this is for security reason or something. Is there a way to unlock the database then?

In the market for new mobo.....

I am running PIII-933 with 4x128 PC-133 (512 mb total) on Abit SA6R (Intel 815E chipset) motherboard. It is very stable and you can do overclocking if you want.

    Abit KT7A + Win2k

I was wondering if anyone got Abit KT7A for their motherboard and running Win2k. I want to know if installing VIA 4-in-1 Driver is necessary. If so which version? I am building a new system right now: AMD Thunderbird 800 + Abit KT7A + 256 mb PC-133 and I am new to building AMD system and I don't know what kind of patch(es) I need to install. I am going to install Win2k on that machine.

    Delayed Write Failed error

I am getting this "Delayed Write Failed" error from my Win2k Professional and I was wondering if you guys could help me with this. I noticed that I get this error message whenever I remove zip disk from my Iomega USB zip drive. The weird thing is I can't reproduce this error. It only does it once in awhile (like 1 in 7 times I eject the disk) but all the errors I got were after I press eject on the zip drive though. I found something on Microsoft's Knowledge based about this error but their link to the fix got me nowhere. They said something about changing the delayed write timing to longer value.

    Abit KT7A + Win2k

Well, I got my Thunderbird system going yesterday and so far it is 100% stable. I installed Win2k Server edition on it. In case if you want to know the spec here it is: Abit KT7A Thunderbird 800 Kingston 256 PC-133 Viper 770 Ultra Linksys 10 Mbit IBM 30 Gig

    Delayed Write Failed error

Damien, I tried your method and I have tested the eject by using eject command instead of using eject button on the drive. So far I have ejected 15 times and I am not getting that Delayed Write error so far.

    battle of the computers

    Well...here is mine: Windows 2000 Server Intel PIII-933 Abit SA6R motherboard 512 PC-133 Crucial memory IBM 30 GB + 45 GB Geforce2 GTS SoundBlaster Live! 3Com 10/100 Sony 17" monitor

    Geforce 3

I am not paying any video card over $300 for sure. I think my Geforce2 GTS can still hang for another year or so. Right now I don't really play any games other than Counter-Strike. As for Doom III, I am going to be disappointed if they make it single player only.

    Abit KT7A + Win2k

Well...this is not really my first Athlon system. My first one was Athlon-750 Slot A system which was really buggy. A friend of mine told me Slot A Athlon system are buggy so this time around, I got Socket version. But I sold that Slot A system last summer. I didn't really get to use that system at all. I couldn't get Win2k to install on it so I sold it to get my current PIII system now. PIII system will still be my main computer. I am building that Thunderbird 800 system as my "b*tch" computer. It is going to be a server computer that is going to share the monitor I have right now. Well, if Thunderbird is as stable as my PIII right now, I will also be moving to AMD system in the future. I bought 800 MHZ chip because I got a good deal on it and I am not planning to overclock it at all. Since 800 is more than enough for running a server. For RAID, my current PIII system's motherboard is Abit SA6R and it has 2 RAID channels and I am running RAID right now. Seems pretty stable in Win2k.
  16. In my opinion, I think it is better to turn off the computer at night to let it cool down. I have a friend who told me it is better to leave the computer on all the time. He gave me a lecture about whenever I turn off computer, oxygen from CPU leaks into air each time and it is bad for the CPU. I have a feeling he is smoking something. So I was wondering what do you think about this? Is it better to leave the computer all the time or turn it off at night when you are not using it?

    DVD Drives with W2K

I also got Pioneer DVD-115 16X and it works great. I've tried that DVD drive in both Win2k Professional and Server editions and it works great.

w2k good or bad? whats your opion

Win2k rocks but I will be upgrading to Windows XP when it come out. Win2k is a lot better than Win9x and ME in terms of stability, security, etc. But Win2k is not compatible with all the games out. Windows XP is suppose to have better gaming support than Win2k and also using NT engine.

Is it better to leave the computer on or off?

    Ok, thanks for the replies.

    Abit KT7A

Well, I am two IBM Ultra ATA-100 hard drives and they are running fine at Ultra ATA-100 mode. I think the problem you see on this board is about Ultra ATA-100 hard drives not running at Ultra ATA-100 mode in Win2k. And I don't know if this is true or not but I don't see any performance gain from installing the patch. As for the motherboard, I am going to be building Athlon/Thunderbird 800 system using Abit KT7A also so hopefully, there won't be any problems with it in Win2k. My PIII-933 system right now is using Abit SA6R motherboard and it is running really well and I don't have any problem with it so I am buying Abit motherboard for my new Athlon system. I guess alternative choice would be to go with Asus board.

    Nvidia driver + Counter-Strike

Anybody here play Counter-Strike? Last time when I install 7.1x I think...Counter-Strike got screwed up so I went back to 6.49. So I was wondering if anybody here play with 7.xx driver without any problem.

    Nvidia driver + Counter-Strike

    Best review of whistler yet!!!!!!

I agree with OLEerror. I also knew his review was intended to be funny but his message could have been more effective with correct spelling. Vampyr, I heard that it is not the size that matters. It is how you use it. =)
