How do you remove the build number from windows xp build 2504? And I don't want to do the " Lock Desktop Icons " thing, it makes everything look really crappy. Is their a way other than that? I tried the regedit thing, with the Paint Desktop value, that didn't work, any other way, any way at all????? Falcon26

Ok Rc1 is out, but what about the people like me who paided $10 to get the preview version of it, when do we get an email from MS saying, ok guys here's the link and password to download Rc1???????? Ok I just signed up for the Rc1 and Rc2 of windows XP. I did the download version since I have DSL it should only take about 30 minutes or so to download 100 megs+, but my question is when will microsoft send me the link to download it? It says on their site June, but when in June anyone know???? I really want to get my hands on XP, it looks pretty cool. So if anyone out their knows when they plan to give RC1 to the Preview people (The ones that paided for it) please let me know.... Thanks, Falcon26

Ok does SP2 finally fix the problem with using win2000 to play games at only 60hz refresh rate???? I mean can you finally play your games at 85hz and above without applying any outside fixes? That's the only thing that stops me from using win 2000, because all my games only play in 60hz, and its really bad on the eyes. I have tried all the fixes out their and nothing works, so hopefully SP2 addresses this problem and fixes it! Falcon26

Ok I have a IBM webcam running under W2K with service pack one using the VIA Chipset I believe its tje 133A VIA chipset. I can use the webcam fine, but when I shut it off it complete locks up, I try and shut it down with the task manager but that does nothing, it brings W2K to its knees, I have to turn off my computer completely to reboot. Anyone have any ideas what would cause this? I have never seen anything that could really bring down W2K but this does everytime. My friend has the exact same setup as mine, but he has the Intel I815E chipset, and it runs fine no problems what so ever. I also have all the lastest patches from VIA. Any help would sure be great. I have Pacbell Enhanced DSL using the Cayman Router. When trying to use Netmeeting with my webcam I am able to call my friend with his Ip address but when he tries to call me it doesn't work. Netmeeting lists my Ip address as something that couldn't possible be a Ip address. When I goto the networking icon in windows 2000 for Ip addresses it just says DHCP enabled, I called Pacbell they game me an Ip address but still when my friend tried it he can't connect, none of my friends for that matter can, I can call out but I can't recieve any calls. Am I missing something here, how the heck do I tell what my Ip address is, it seems no one at pacbell has any clue, is their a way to tell somehow somewhere within windows 2000? Is it maybe because the cayman router has a firewall or something (I dont't think it does)..... Please help! Thanks, falcon26

Ok, Right now I have a Cayman network router which Pacbell provide. It has a DSL modem built into it, which is cool, this way I don't have a DSL modem as well as a router hanging around. But I hate the way it looks (I know that's pretty lame) but its really ugly and it looks like its from the 1950's or something. The DSL line goes in the back of it and the 2 computers I have hooked up to it, are pluged into the front of it, making it really annoying to have wires in the back as well as the front, I have to twist and turn the wires so they fit right. So I guess what I am asking is, what is the best ALL-IN-ONE network router solution? Something that has all the wires and cables in the back of the unit. I have heard great things about linksys routers, but I don't know if I need a DSL modem for that, pacbell took my modem, because the router has it built into it. Any help would be great I'm only looking to spend around $200 to $300 on it. Thanks, falcon26

Ok, First off love Windows 2000, but the thing I hate is that all my games now only play at 60mhz refresh rate, which is really bad for the eyes. I have tried the NVmax thing, but that only gets it up to 75mhz, how can I get it up to 85mhz like windows 95, 98 and ME do? And why does windows 2000 do this in the first place? Thanks, falcon26

Everytime I try and install Windows 2000 Pro, I get a Disk I/O error 00083 what does this mean??????? I have a P3 500 256 megs of ram I815 chipset and a Qauntum 10 gig hard drive. Thanks, falcon26

One more time here: I try and install Windows 2000 Pro on a P3 500 and a Quataum 10 gig hard drive. I boot from the Cd-rom and it starts to install then it gives me this error: Disk I/O Error 00008001 What the heck is wrong???? I have tried swapping memory, with brand new Micron Memory no change. Is this a memory error or is my hard drive messed up??? Windows 95, 98 and ME work and run fine on it, but Windows 2000 just won't install. Everything in the system is like 2 months old I815 chipset and so on. Is their something in the Bios that I am missing??? Please help, I hate to put Windows ME or 98 on this computer I want to run the best OS out their. Thanks, falcon26

Ok I have tried to install Windows 2000 on my Dad's computer and everytime it installs in say " Disk I/O Error " now what the heck does this mean? I can install windows 95, 98, and ME no problem on his computer, but windows 2000 just won't do it. He has 256 megs of ram, a P3 500 a Abit motherboard with the I815 chipset and a Qantuam 20 gig ultra 66 dma hard drive. What am I doing wrong? falcon26 Ps. I have tried both. I tried booting from the Cd-Rom and I tried the Floppy Disks, none work. The funny thing is, it will boot from the Cd-rom install all the way, then ask me to reboot, which I do and that's when it goes through the bios startup, listings all my stuff etc... and then it says something like verifying DMI configuration and that's when it just hangs and I have to hit clt-alt-del to reboot, and then it does the same thing it hangs when it gets to this thing called DMI. falcon26

Well lets see, Win95C in one word Sucks. I hope you don't have any USB devices on your system because win95C sucks at doing USB. You can get a 7200 RPM 20 GIG HD by either Qauntum or Maxtor for about $120, in my local paper today Fry's has a 20 gig Qauntum running at 7200 RPM for $115, not bad. If your going to invest, don't bother wasting your money on Win95 look towards the future and get a new HD and run the best OS on the Planet, why settle for a Yugo when you can have a ferrari :-) Falcon26

Why is it, that in playing games in windows 2000, that the refresh rate always resets itself to 60mhz? When I play games in Win 98 its fine, but windows 2000 always goes to 60, why is that? I have a Elsa Geforce 2 video card and a P3 700 with 256 megs of ram. Thanks, falcon26

How do I get Windows Explorer to stop starting in the "My Documents" folder everytime I start windows explorer to look at all my files and folders? I want it so it starts with nothing showing basicly, so just my C drive is present. Thanks, falcon26
