  1. Hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me with connecting two networks together. I'm at a college that has its own network and only allows one ip for each ethernet port (one to a room). My roommate and I use ICS to bridge this problem (2 NICs and a crossover cable), but we want more. We want to be able to browse and be browsed on the network. As it is only my roommate can see and be seen on it. We need my machine to be able to browse and share also. Currently we are using win2k advanced server for the computer directly connected to the network and we've tried setting up our own workgroup, but this hasn't worked so far. Is it even possible to do what i'm asking? Thanks for any help given.

Locking in Opengl and DirectX in Windows 2000

Thanks for your help, but i don't think gateway would help. I did not buy the computer with windows 2000 on it so i doubt they'd give me support for it. Also, i have the most recent bios update they have for my board. I've tried the 5.32 drivers, they crash. Anything else i can do to make sure i do not crash/hang?
  3. System Specs: - Athalon 600 - 128 megs ram - Soundblaster Live! - nVidia TNT 2 - Some crappy proprietary Gateway 2000 motherboard (Kodoka?) that does not support agp4x Whenever i play an opengl or directx game (Mostly Half-life TFC and Unreal Tournament) My computer locks randomly. Sometimes it's within a minute or two. Other times i could be playing for an hour before it happens. I've tried different things like disabling agp 2x with powerstrip, older drivers, etc, but nothing i have tried so far has worked. What can i do to fix this? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks [This message has been edited by Slippy (edited 31 July 2000).]
  4. This isn't a big problem, but i'm curious about it. When i am logged in to windows 2000 and i leave the computer idle for a while the monitor goes blank like it should. If i ctrl+alt+del and lock the computer, the monitor will not blank no matter how long i leave it idle. Is there anyway to fix this or an explanation why? Not important, just curious.

    Computer description in Windows 2000

I tried that already, it does not work. Fortunatly, i found the answer for myself in, of all places, the microsoft website. (amazing huh?) If anyone's curious, to do it, you go into the computer managment mmc snap-in or whatever, right-click on computer(local) and go to properties. Enter the name and reboot. guess i should have checked there before asking, but i never thought in a million years that i could find anything useful on that site. Thanks for your help anyway though.

    Unknown freezes in win2k

I had a similar problem with Windows 2000 when it first came out. The problem was the combination of my athalon and my tnt2. I updated to the 5.xx drivers lately and the problem has stopped. PS. My ethernet card is a 3com 3c905c-tx which has the same chipset as a linksys card, but i still do not think that had anything to do with it.
  7. The IS department at my school requires us to have are name listed in the computer description on the network if we share files in network neighborhood. Setting this in windows 98 or NT is no problem, but i, nor anyone in the IS department can figure out where to set it in 2000. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
