Hi, I have 2 domains, an NT4 domain and a win2000 AD domain. A 2 way trust exists between the two domains. I also have a user account in each domain using the same username, same password, and it is in the Domain Admins group for each domain. Now when I log into the account on the win200 domain (It is a mixed mode, not a Native domain in case that matters), I do not have any rights in the NT 4 domain. I can go into the NT4 domain and assign the user account to specific resources, but I can not get it into any of the groups. So I need to explicitly set permissions to this account everywhere on the nt4 domain, and can not do many administrative functions like accessing a workstation C$ share. I must have missed something as it should not be this difficult to do this and I'm sure others have done this as well. I appreciate any advice you can give. If it helps, the 2000 domain is in mixed mode, I'm accessing the NT4 domain from a 2000 pro workstation logged into the win2000 domain, No hardware is between the two domains, not having any problems with DNS, I can resolve everything I'm looking for. Hi all, I had to re-format, and I lost a program I loved. It was free, and added unzip to the context menu. It zipped and unzipped, but no adds, no naggs, no registration reminders, etc. It also was full featured with unzip here, unzip to folder (same name as zip file) or unzip elsewhere, make zip to an exe, everything. It zipped and also I think RAR. Anyway I loved it, and before re-formatting I thought it was stuffit, but I was wrong. Any ideas? Thanks, Ry

Anyone offhand know where the autocomplete info for passwords and such is stored for IE6? (the same stuff in the content tab in the internet options) In the past I checked the box to not remember passwords for a few particular sites, and now I would like to enable those without purging all my existing ones. ZA will turn off the XP firewall by itself when installed, and if you uninstall ZA, the XP version of the firewall will automatically be re-enabled. Because of this I would not recommend disabling the XP firewall. Just let Zonealarm do its thing. -Ry

You said you have 512 MB of ram, is that 1 stick or 2 256 sticks? I had an extremely similar situation happen. I swapped out one ram stick and the problem got much worse. Then I took out the stick I left in, and replaced with the one I originally took out. Not a problem at all after that. So basically it was a bad stick of ram. I hope you have the luxury of being able to try that out. Of cource what I should have done from the start is run memtest. If you have a cd burner, try this app out: http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.1a.iso.zip If you want a floppy version, http://www.memtest86.com/memt31a.zip These links are from www.memtest86.com , and I found it a great memory test program. Set it to a continuous run, and watch it for the first time through. If you have no errors on the first run, let it continue for a few hours to be really sure. At the least, it will rule out one possible issue.

If you go into the event viewer (right click on my computer, choose manage, then expand system tools and expand event viewer. Choose the application log from the list). Do you see an event, most likely a warning numbered 1517 or 1524 with a source of userenv? If so there is a file on MS's site... actually a service that may help. Let me know if you have that error and I'll hunt down the link to the file. -Ry

Perhaps you could give a little more detail on exactly what happens when you plug in the flash drive. Does XP recognize it at all? Do you have "support" software on your machine? Do the machines at your school also fail to access it? I will assume that since you didn't mention anything below, that when you inspected the connector on the device you didn't see any physical damage or noticable dirt on the contacts. I had some software that did diagnostics and encryption for my usb flash drive, that worked right until I put on XP SP2. Did your drive stop right after a patch like this? If so you might have to remove the software or look for a patched version. -Ry

Well, I made a new ghost of my system, then with only one drive plugged in, I ran the RC's fixboot. No luck. Then I ran the fix mbr. Again no luck. Basically If I open up the disk management, it shows the drive, and the first partition is shown as active. It should also show as system. Now right clicking on that partition and choosing change drive letter+ paths brings up a box that should show it as "C". The second partition should also show up as "D". There is nothing listed when I go in here. The OS does recognize these as C+D drive letters. Granted I can change the drive letters around, but it still will not show the drive letter in that app. Right now the PC runs fine, however I'm afraid down the road I will have further problems. That is why I'd like this fixed. Any ideas would be great. I really want to avoid another OS reinstall. -Ry

I installed XP on an 80GB HDD with 2 partitions. Many months later I got a great deal on another 80GB drive, and I installed it as a slave drive. Periodically I use ghost to image from one drive to another so I always have a current backup. Now I noticed that XP's disk management shows the primary partition of the first disk as active and the first partition of the second disk as the system partition. This prevents me from moving the drive letters around. I unplugged the second drive (it is a backup anyway) and the system runs but it does not list a drive letter in disk management) I'd like to fix this as I really do not know what the long term effects are of running XP like this. If it helps, I'm on SP2 and it is a basic, not dynamic disk. Thanks.

Hi all, Is it possible using xp's firewall to add a port range? If I have 5 ports in a row I want to use, I need to add 5 entries into the firewall settings. Am I doing this the hard way by adding each individually, or is this correct? This existed with sp1, but since I upgraded, I'm hoping for a sp2 compatible solution in case it differs. Thanks, Ry

Did your friend not use his account for some time... like 3 months? If he has the free service, then there is nothing to stop yahoo from deleting an unused account and making it available. If that did happen, at least your friend does not have someone looking at his e-mail, as yahoo would have deleted it. Read their policies on that to see how long it is until an account is removed and made available. Now if someone got his password, either from a sniffer, from guessing it, or a malicious program, well then he probably is out of luck. There are programs to allow you to download your mail from yahoo to outlook, or other clients. That will not help him, but it is good advice for anyone that wants to at least backup their mail.

Hi all, I subscribe to several publications that "should" give quick e-mail alerts about nasty viruses, worms...basically any major internet issue. The problem I have is that I don't get the info fast enough, or don't even get it at all. I use sites like sarc for virus info, cert for security, etc. There must be better, and based on my departments budget, I really can't go for a pay service. Anyone want to share some good info places? Even a decent web page that I can set as my homepage will do quite well. I'm just tired of hearing about things a day later. Thanks, RY
