It installs fine. I've installed it 3 times on Win2K machines. I got it from Netscape's FTP site. -bZj

More SCSI troubles... I got a new SCSI card [2940U], and decided to throw my old 1-2gig SCSI drives in for extra room. I have one hooked to the internal connector in my case, and two others are in an exterior SCSI case. I've checked the drives, and they are set as: Internal [2gig]: SCSI ID 0 External 1 [1.5gig]: SCSI ID 2 External 2 [750meg]: SCSI ID 3 The card says it is set at SCSI ID 7, so there shouldn't be any conflict there. Now, everytime I restart my computer, I have the drive letters in a different order. I had the internal one as F:\, and the external ones as G:\ and H:\, respetively. At the moment, they are showing up as: External 2=F:\ Internal=G:\ External 1=H:\ They change everytime. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how to stop it? [edit] I forgot to mention, that at startup, when the Adaptec card shows it's BIOS onscreen for a moment, it labels one of the drives as D:\, while the others get no labels. [My second IDE partition is D:\] [/edit] -bZj ------------------ Code: =====ThugBox===== =====GimpBox=====Home built system: Just for fun:Soyo SY-7VCA Mainboard AST Bravo LC 4/66d[VIA ApolloPro 133A T82C694X] Intel 486/66MHz CPU[onboard sound] 40MB RAM [2x16, 2x4]PIII 500E @ 667MHz @ 1.73Vcore 515MB Conner Hdd[100FSB @ 133 flip chip] 3 1/2, 5 1/4Thermaltake Golden Orb 3com Etherlink III [3C509]PNY 128MB PC100 RAM ESS AudiodriveOEM 128MB PC133 RAM [Hyundai] Windows95 OSR2Stealth III S540 Video Adaptec 2940U SCSI 3 SCSI Hdds [~4.25GB] LinkSys NC100v2 Ethernet Quantum Fireball 10.3GB Hdd HP A4331D 20" Monitor @ 1280 Logitec MouseMan [Compaq] Win2K [url=http://thugbox.dhs.org]Server[/url] [v5.00.2195, SP-1][format => clean install] [email]brian@infinitejones.com[/email] Norton AntiVirus 2000 Covad 768kbps sDSL w/3com switch & Flowpoint Router [sharedx6] [This message has been edited by Down8 (edited 15 November 2000).]

Well, after many runins with the Adaptec software, I have disabled the SCSI BIOS, and they are labeled correctly right now. I won't be ab;e to reboot to see if they stay that way until tomorrow though. New problem: After installing the Adaptec EZ-SCSI 5.0 software, I was prompted to do their WebUpdate to go to 5.01a, which I did, then after rebooting, I got a Win2K popup that said it had detected new stuff and needed to restart. OK, restart: same popup. And I've gotten it at every reboot. Also, I ran WebUpdate again, and it said I should d/l the 5.01a upgrade again, which I had just installed. I'm about ot uninstall the software and see if that helps. Any suggestions? -bZj

I tought about putting this in hardware, but decided not to. This is one of the P4 laucnh pages: http://www.intel.com/pentium4/launch/gaming.htm?&iid=P4PLaunchFlash+002& Check out either of these files [same, but 1st is Real, 2nd is WMP]. Try and count how many times this guy say "um". You can't do it. There are too many to count. http://stream1.iims.intelonline.com/ViewWeb/IAMO/File/02_universe_28100.rm http://stream1.iims.intelonline.com/ViewWeb/IAMO/File/02_universe_28100.asx -bZj

Yes, all the people at Mozilla were saying it's not ready. NS is AOL, so they were just trying to get it out the door this year. As far as advertising goes: I have yet to see one bit of advertising on the borwser. Sure, there are link to the print center or what ever, but that's obviously a link to something, so where else would it go? Don't use it is you don't like it. And, this is the only bit of pseudo-advertising I can see. -bZj

I've always had at least 2 svchost.exe's running, usually 3-4, and this is in Win2K. -bZj

It might be easier, be it wouldn't be fair. All of those people who realize that their vote for someone other than the major 2 parties would [finally realize that their vote does count] and vote for one of the major parties, which isn't fair to everyone else who voted RIGHT the first time and don't get to re-think their decidsion. -bZj

I've seen softawre decoding work better than hardware decoding in the past, and with your system, eating up the processor shouldn't be a problem, so try a good software decoder. -bZj

Well, there are two ways to do this. First is to get TweakUI 1.33, there is an option that lets you auto login. The second is a registry hack, that works great, but anyone on your mahcine can get access to your password. I use this one, but I don't have an security issues, and my pass word is just my name, so it is no big deal. Here: Code: Add or Edit:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\(REG_SZ) AutoAdminLogon and set it to 1.You'll also need to set.DefaultUserName to the administrator name.DefaultPassword to the administrator password. -bZj

KISS, man, KISS. You're going through too much. Just throw pcAnywhere on the server and start up what ever you are running, then start the game on your computer. But what you propose seems like it would work. Try it and throw back the results. -bZj

autorun.ini is it not? -bZj -
I've never tried it, but I've heard that Solaris sucks on the PC. I was looking into it, because I love the SPARCs at my school, but I heard it is doggedly slow [in comparison] on the x86. -bZj

Woudln't it be easier ot grab a $50 KVM switch? Just a thought. -bZj

Netscape promised so much with version 6 of their browser, looks like they failed and the superior browser will take up even more market share. 1) I have Flash and Shockwave [most of the time] working in Netscape [contrary to what Macromedia says]. Also QuickTime works fine, but takes up a lot of CPU [but that's just QT for you]. But, you said, it was "the odd post" that tells what NS6 doesn't work with. 2) I haven't been able to get WMP7 to work with it, but then again, why would MS care? 3) What did they promise that they haven't delivered on? Better web standards support? Got it. Speedy rendering? Got it. Multiple POP3 accoutns? Got it. 4) It is still a beta, as far as I'm concerned, and AOHell shouldn't have forced it out, but it will be the better browser [hopefully soon, maybe the 6.1 release]. I don't want grief and flames and such. I'm working on a more complete review that isn't swayed like all the ones I've read around the net. I'll post it here when I'm done, which won't be too soon, as I want a real and thurough report. -bZj PS: I've been using IE for the past year, and think it is a pretty damn good browser, so I'm not "just another Netscape fan". I would avoid putting it on the same drive/partition as Win9x. The shared 'Program Files' directory will give you problems. As long as 9x is installed first, then Whistler on a different drive, you will not have any problems. If you want to access Whistler from 9x, format it FAT32, not NTFS. -bZj [This message has been edited by Down8 (edited 16 November 2000).]
