    create another user in win2k

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Users Right click in the display area -> New User... Set up the account, then right click on the new account name and select -> Properties -> Member of -> Add... Add the new user as one of the Geust users group. You can get an explanation of each group in the Groups folder below the Users folder. I don't know of a way to let someone only read files, but this type of account will be the safest, as the user cannot play with you system files. It may be possible to set a folder as 'read only' as the administrator, and keep the Guest from writing things that way, but I'm not sure exactly how you would go about that without having to change it back to writable every time you login as the Administrator. -bZj ------------------ - brian@infinitejones.com Code: ================== ===================Home built system: Also, just for fun:Soyo SY-7VCA AST Bravo LC 4/66d[VIA T82C694X] Intel 486 CPU[onboard sound] 40MB RAMPIII 500E [flip chip] 500 MB Conner HddPNY 128MB PC100 RAM 3 1/2, 5 1/4, 2x CDStealth III S540 3com Etherlink II3com Etherlink III Adaptec AHA-1545 SCSIQuantum Fireball 10.3GB Hdd [to host some files on:]HP A4331D 20" Monitor 1.3GB internal SeagateWin2K Pro [v5.00.2195, SP-1] 2 2GB external Seagates[format => clean install] Windows 95 [v4.00.1111]Covad 768kbps sDSL [shared] pcAnywhere 9.2 [so I can leave it in the closet]

    Is this really worth it....

OK, I've got a PIII 500E, and a sweet Soyo board that has tons of o/c options, but I'm hesitant to play with it, because with my old K6-2 450 [diff mobo], I could only go to 500 without major probs [in w98, couldn't touch anything once I switched over to 2000]. I've seen some sites that say I could get it up to ~800MHz, but I think that's an over kill. I was thinking ~650, does anyone think this is being too gun shy? -bZj ------------------ - brian@infinitejones.com Code: ================== ===================Home built system: Also, just for fun:Soyo SY-7VCA AST Bravo LC 4/66d[VIA T82C694X] Intel 486 CPU[onboard sound] 40 MB RAMPIII 500E [flip chip] 500 MB Conner HddPNY 128 MB PC100 RAM 3 1/2, 5 1/4, 2x CDStealth III S540 3com Etherlink II3com Etherlink III Adaptec AHA-1545 SCSIQuantum Fireball 10.3 GB Hdd [to host some files on:]HP A4331D 20" Monitor 1.3 GB internal SeagateWin2K Pro [v5.00.2195, SP-1] 2 2 GB external Seagates[format => clean install] Windows 95 [v4.00.1111]Covad DSL [shared] pcAnywhere 9.2 [so I can leave it in the closet]

    New ADSL is COOL!!

I LOVE THIS SH*T! My school has a deal with Covad, so my fraternity house [a bunch of engineers] gets 768kbps sDSL for $86.50/mo. Granted, we all share it, but the only time we're all on is when we start a huge deathmatch. I've had my own D/Ls clocked at 606kbps! SCSI Wanted

I am looking for a PCI SCSI card [Adaptec, or Promise], with an internal connector, and an external SCSI2 connector. My board only has one ISA slot, and I might need it for some old stuff I play with [right now it houses my old AHA-1535A]. If anyone has upgraded or something and can give me a good deal, let me know [ brian@infinitejones.com ]. Eudora anyone?

I used to use Eudora [4.3.2] on Win98, before I got a hold of Win2K Pro [so I could POP multiple accounts]. After W2K install, I installed Eudora 4.3.2 [latest] and it would crash my whole system on startup [hangs at the splash screen]. I then tried to uninstall, reinstall, copy old files over, all kinds of sh*t, to no avail. I then, couldn't uninstall the damn thing ["The uninst.isu was corrupted"]. I finally had to get Add/Remove Pro to get rid of the damn thing. the problem is, I still want to use Eudora [and all my old mail is stored in Eudora]. I even e-mailed a freind of mine who works for Qualcomm [as a Unix Admin], but his solution was "install Solaris 2.8". Funny guy, huh? If anyone comes accross a work around/fix for this, let me know. Dual Boot 98/2000

All versions of WinNT can be booted from what ever drive you want. They don't have to be installed on the C: drive. I would suggest installing from the CD [boot off it], not from within Windows. The option of wich drive to put it on will be very obvious. Just be sure to choose the "leave the file system alone" option, so you don't format your drive, unless it's empty and that is what you want to do... -bZj ------------------ - brian@infinitejones.com Code: ================== ===================Home built system: Also, just for fun:Soyo SY-7VCA AST Bravo LC 4/66d[VIA T82C694X] Intel 486 CPU[onboard sound] 40 MB RAMPIII 500E [flip chip] 500 MB Conner HddPNY 128 MB PC100 RAM 3 1/2, 5 1/4, 2x CDStealth III S540 3com Etherlink II3com Etherlink III Adaptec AHA-1545 SCSIQuantum Fireball 10.3 GB Hdd [to host some files on:]HP A4331D 20" Monitor 1.3 GB internal SeagateWin2K Pro [v5.00.2195, SP-1] 2 2 GB external Seagates[format => clean install] Windows 95 [v4.00.1111]Covad DSL [shared] pcAnywhere 9.2 [so I can leave it in the closet] [This message has been edited by Down8 (edited 04 August 2000).]

People on this list should like this: I was telling my boss [who hates Win2K, because it messed up his Front Page directories... boo hoo] about my Eudoora problems, and he asked if I had the "correct Windows 2000 drivers?" And when I told him Eudora was an e-mail program, he got offended and said, "I knwo what it is. But I know you have to get the correct drivers, because I had to get Norton for Windows 2000." I wasn't sure why, but I decided to try Win2k Pro instead, and it worked fine without the MB drivers. I have since installed all of my sound and video driver with no problems. I would suggest not installing your Mb drivers, unless you get them from their site, and they say specifically that they are W2K compatible.
