http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/SP/SP3/NT5/EN-US/w2ksp3.exe I found this on another forum.. Just spreading the news. As of the time of this posting, the actual website to download the file has not yet been posted.

This is with reguard to "Q298896 TCP/IP Performance Enhancement by Optimizing the TCP Segmentation Offload Feature " These files would most likely be on a server with a gigabit NIC.. Thank you awaher@yahoo.com

Thanks, Toby

Micrsoft has not been responsive with reguard to this.. nor have they been responsive reguarding my MSDN account. Preferably, I would have had these files last Wednesday..

I gathered as much; however, seeing as though the documentation acompaning the game notes that it supports 'NT', you'd think it would work with the sound. At the least you'd expect some sort of note in those documents saying it does not work with sound in NT. But I suppose all of that is covered in the 'Requires DirectX 8.0 sound card'
-
Ditto. Windows NT 4.0, SP6a and the most recent SoundBlaster Live! updates I can find. Everything else does sound just fine.. Half-Life, etc. In the console upon start up in Wolfenstein, it mentions DirectSound having failed the initialization.

No. If you manage to get a Gigabit HUB, in no way will the 3 machines be able to function at different duplexes plugged in at the same time. Now if you considered a Gigabit switch.. then yes, run whatever you want so long as the switch is 10/100/1000.

A small nudge with a picture -
Its not bi-directional, but it is fast.. upto 3000kbps. Granted, I'm comparing Sprints 2.4GHz service to this, however, they sound exactly the same so I would not be suprised if they are not actually the same.. heres a user group of Sprint BBD http://www.dslreports.com/forum/alt,sprn You should be able to get a quick impression of how it is..

whatever the patch is, we know its hardware related.. because this is after all a 'hardware' forum
-
try booting with the 'last know good hardware configuration' and, keep in mind you're using a beta bios I don't see why this post made it into the 'hardware' thread, on a second note..

how the hell does this fit in the hardware forum?

I've got an Win2k SP2 box uploading and downloading via SMB sessions to a Linux RedHat 6.1 RAID array (running Samba) some pretty meaty files, from 30MB to +400MB. The network is on a complete (with zero to moderate traffic at the time of the tests) 100Mbit switch with both machines negotiating a 100/Full connection. The issue here is the uploads top out at 150KB/sec (for both an SMB (Picture) session and an FTP (Picture) session) and CPU utilization will be ~99.9% on the Linux side. If a file is being downloaded it will generally reach a mere 3MB/sec, which is acceptable compared to the uploads. If an upload and a download is taking place, the download will ride within the transfer thresh hold of the upload (as monitored from the Win2k box). (Picture) This appears to be not so much an NT question as it is just a general question on TCP/IP logic..
-
Up[censored] the sub-system drivers fixed it. The uploads are now a more reasonable 7-9MB/sec, depending on traffic.

I've been trying to install the Network Monitor found on Windows 2000 Server to a Windows 2000 Professional machine and am so far, short of just copying over the folder in system32\netmon, I have been unable to install it. I have a 2000 Server CD and where I would expect the service to be (in network monitoring) there is nothing other than SNMP. To make matters worse, there no machines *here* I can extract the /system32/netmon directory from, so, if someones got a machine near by, zip up that 2MB file to a nice little ~700KB and please send it off to physikkerl@hotmail.com I'll be using it to try and resolve my post here; 'Heres a difficult one'

Will SP3 W2K be needed ever arrive ?
Halz replied to lager_brains's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Well, I had Half-Life say it needed Service Pack 3 to run after being installed on a Windows 2000 SP2 laptop.. Then I installed Half-Life's patch.. Must be some sort of SP3 in disguise; a Microsoft outsourced testing consipracy, perhaps? -
Have you considered dumping 'Mem Tubo'?
-
I can verify that the user with upload and download privilages has no bandwidth restrictions.. I have considered it being some sort of server-side parity check, however, it taking place with just the uploads and then having a negative effect on the downloads when both sessions are active disuades me from that conclusion.

I've seen the taskbar connection status counter counting on some machines Bytes and on others Packets... Is it possible, through some ambigious registry modification, to change between the two?
-
The array is running a multi-disk RAID 5 on RedHat 6.1.. Uploading will be nomore than 10MB/min utilizing %99.9 of the CPU. Downloads, however, are in the range of 200MB/min with minial CPU usage; %6. Any insight as to what might be an issue?
-
Ha-Ha!! I would if I could... the problem is, this array is not under my administration. However, I am responsible for using it along side other duties.

I've had some problems using USB -> PS/2 devices (with the adaptor) on a 4-port Belkin..

I've got Black and White running on the machine at work.. its a Dell Precision 420 (i840, PIII 1GHz, 256MB RDRAM, RAID-1 Array.. overall, a very sweet machine (for it being OEM)).. The machine came with a Matrox G400, I installed it, it ran pretty slow (looked like complete crap also) so I took one of the GeForce2s out of one of my clones and replaced the G400. The game runs as I would expect now.. just fine.. I might suggest jumping into the registry at HKEY_CU\Software\Liohead Studios Ltd\Black & White\Setup and change all of the graphic values to the most conservative... (zeros)
