  1. ..."I did it my way"...

Everything is fine now! ACT1.5 is finally functioning! But I had to install several applications before. I don´t know exactly what did it, but there were definitivly files missing. I installed ACT1.1, ran Appfix, installed the may-update and used 4 additional files from the Whistler ACT2 beta. Voila, that did it!

    But somehow weird!

  2. Hey canadians rule...,

but you didn´t get the point. QFixApp1.5 isn´t functioning on my system. I can make fixes, but they don´t work. I can trie to change os-layers, but this doesn´t work either.

The games I want to install are originals, and I never needed no-cd fixes for them. All of the could be run by using Apcompat.exe or QfixApp1.1/QFixApp2Whistlerbeta. Since I upgraded to SP2 I waited for a functioning QFixApp, but 1.5 gives me headaches...more or less! Somehow weird!

    Thank you for your reply

  3. Thanks for the reply, but this is really weird.

I recently installed Windows2000 again on my computer due to a mainboard change. I then installed directly SP2, directx8.0a and blablabla. The support tools with apcompat.exe of course were also installed.

I think I am a quite experienced user, and I know what support tools, qfixapps and service packs are and do.

So I installed Qfixapp1.5...and...nothing!!!! IT DOESN´T CHANGE A THING, IT EVEN CANNOT HANDLE VERSION CONFLICTS on my computer! An

EXAMPLE that it doesn´t work for me:

If a version conflict occurs, which I could handle on my former Windows2000 SP1 installation, I cannot fix it with Qfixapp1.5 and SP2.

And the the demoApp is a TESTING PROGRAM, to demonstrate what a version conflict is and how Qfixapp1.5 can handle it with its OS-layers. If I try to install the demoapp, it returns "This program requires Windows 95". OK I then change to the win95 layer and start the installer of the demoapp again....the same return...will not install. And this procedure occurs on all formerly installable games too. There has to be something wrong!!!

It seems like the Qfixapp1.5 needs an activation on my computer, I don´t mean the above described activation...I tried it..it doesn´t solve my problem.

    Has anybody experienced equal problems?

  4. I tried almost everthing, but I cannot get the AppComp 1.5 to run. It installs fine, but when I try the demoapp, it gives an error message (win95 only app). My computer has a fresh Windows2000 installation, with no former AppComp installed. Just the support tools are installed. I tried even the Whistler-AppComp-beta-Kit, but it doesn´t work either. I installed and deinstalled all those apps in different combinations, but the demoapp won´t start. That means the AppComp 1.5 doesn´t seem to work on my computer.

    ANY IDEAS?

  5. As far as I know, there will be a "Professional" version of XP, which then will support smp. Windows NT and Windows 2000 supports smp yet. There are not many smp capable games out, and this for sure won´t change till the mass market uses such hardware. As far as I can remember, some sierra games are smp capable: GPL, NASCAR4 and ...I don´t remember the other one any more. Quake-engine based games should be smp capable, too.

I will find out, if some Microprose games as Falcon 4 and GP 3 can use smp, too.

And don´t forget: If a game doesn´t support smp, at least less processor-power will be lost for the os resulting in more power for the game!

  6. Well, the NASCAR series from Sierra is almost as outstanding as the Grand Prix series from Microprose is. So I teased my brain a little more to get this game fixed for my system.

I modified the rend_d3d.ini as followed:

Stencilbuffer=0 (off), bingo!!!...no system crashes anymore with the Voodoo5 WHQL 1.04 driver set! Although I am still not able to go into the options menu without getting a system crash, but I configurated everything in the opengl mode.

And I set the texturesize between 16000000-24000000 (16-24MB) and voila...texture problems (unsharpness) were gone.

Ok, I forgot, the game menu fonts are still "sometimes"...well..not so good to read...but one can live with that!

  7. Does anyone play NASCAR 4 with a Voodoo5 in D3D?

I can play only the opengl mode!

D3D and opengl modes can be configurated, no problem,...

...but if I want to race in D3D, W2K exits to a blue screen (on W2K!!!), saying it has some problems with mem addresses of the 3dfxvs.dll. WEIRD!

I use the WHQL 1.04. drivers (as recommend!).

  8. One of the last game-compatibility hurdles for W2K seems to be VESA for Dos-SVGA-games

(sound and VGA are no problem). I tried "tryvesa", but it didn´t work for me.

Is there another program or a workaround for VESA on W2K?

  9. QFixApp2.0:

I used the Win98 layer for the setup.exe to get the voodoo card detected. Then again used the Win98 layer to start the linked tp.exe! Bingo...TP2000 runs on W2K!

  10. QFixApp2.0:

I first updated M1TP2 to version 1.2, used the Win98 layer, didn´t change the preselected fixes and could run the game in D3D (didn´t tried glide so far) on W2K!

  11. Got the user made W2K-patch, used the additional D3D patch for lens flares, and managed to play WC Prophecy (4-sample Anti-Aliasing worked with my Voodoo5) on W2K!

  12. I just read the message of that user made patch. But the link on that wcnews.com site doesn´t seem to work.

Has anybody succesfully downloaded that patch?

  13. Ja bem001, you can run GP3 with a Voodoo5.

    BUT...................

you can only run it with driver versions 1.00. and 1.01.beta.

All version above result in scrambled graphics. Let us hope, that the upcoming add-on CD includes an update fixing that.

There are only a handfull games, which don´t run with newer V5 driver versions. Unfortunately, GP3 is one of them!

  14. Yup!

Although there is a quote in a readme file, that Win95a&2000 aren´t supported, the OPFlashpoint demo runs without problems on W2K. I have SP1 and DX8a installed, and at least with that it runs perfect!

  15. Just tested the new drivers........

JUST THE SAME OLD BIG D3D PROBLEMS AS BEFORE!

It seems, that bug fixing (mixed up textures, etc.) was NOT done!

x3dfx: What am I doing wrong? BIOS settings are tested by me...doesn´t matter! Installation precedures...doesn´t matter!

What does matter? Or is this just a big joke by someone? Does x3dfx exist?
