hey... i'm running a dual boot Win Me/XP on separate partitions. is defragmenting the xp partition from win me (norton speed disk) can be harmful ??.... i'm asking because the defragmentation process is SOOO much faster under win me... thanks !!

true...it is a fat32..... why should i change it to ntfs ?

.........that wasn't my question.... i asked if defragmenting the xp partition while i am using the windows me ..(with any kind of defrag software) can be harmful or is it the same as doing a defrag to the xp partition while using xp os!

hey.. i don't know why, but today when i wanted to connect to the windows update site ,i received an error that the page could not load...!!! i did accept the two plug-ins that popped up while the site was checking for the latest update software....the first plug-in was signed 21/3/2002 and the second was singed 3/10/2001.. Please HELP !! until yesterday everything was fine... Using Windows xp professional.

Problem FIxed !!!.... I disabled my proxy and tried again.As usual the first activeX plug-in appeared (dated 21/3/2002) and as usual I acceped the installation BUT this time it installed properly and requested a reboot...!! after that everything worked just !!! [i have no idea why with the proxy the plug-in dated 21/3/2002 didn't install and neither the plug-in which appeared after him dated 3/10/2001...] A funny thing : i was unable to connect to the win me windows update site (using dual boot : Win Me/XP on separate partitions) for about a month or so, but today after fixing the problem i had for about a day and a half with windows xp ..the problem with win me was solved also.....????? any explanation ???

hey.. i installed office xp,and it works fine.i then installed the hebrew language pack.i then used the Microsoft Office XP Language Settings and chose hebrew for the interface (menus and dialogs) and for the help. the interface is in hebrew....but the help is in english ..!!! i can't seem to change it.. Please help........(Using Windows XP professional)

hey.. i just installed win xp.my video card is nvidia's tnt 64, and i installed the latest 16.30 driver. i installed Soldier Of Fortune and i tried to play the game... The Problem is that i get a black screen for a few seconds and than i'm thrown back to the desktop !!!!!! Please Help...I Love This Game... Thanks !

hey... i recently installed win xp on a friends computer with a nvidia TNT video card. he is currently using the microsoft's windows update driver,and some games that should work don't. (Fifa 2000 crashes immediately,Soldier of fortune is thrown back to the desktop..) will the nvidia detonator drivers help ?????????

hey... Whenever the computer boots,after the bios screen shows up and my hard disks and my cd rom are detected (for 5 second or less), there is a long pause of 10 to 15 seconds and only then the hard disk is accessed and the OS starts to load. i don't know how to fix the situation. motherboard : IWill's VD133 (Via Appollo pro 133) Pentium III 450 Mhz 256 ram 3 Western Digital hard Disks 1 Cd-Rom 1 floppy Win ME/XP Dual Boot (I Don't Think The OS is relavant here..) Please Help !

i think i found the cause for the problem,but i don't have a solution.. apparently the hard disk that is connected with my cd-rom to the second ide cable is causing the problem.whenever i remove it ,the pause at the boot screen is gone... is there something i can do ?

sorry for confusing you ..but i changed the thread title to make it clearer.. the pause is after the bios screen before the OS starts to load...

Hey all.. i was wondering..: in the device manager under processors i have "proseccor" installed,and this is a driver provided by microsoft and is a "Standard processor types" driver. Now , a driver for intel pentium III exists in the XP drivers, Should i install it ???????? another thing...according to sisoft sandra: "The IOQD (Host Bus In-Order Queue Depth) is set too low, most likely 1, i.e. no queue. This indicates the depth of the host bus pipelining; thus 1 indicates that no pipelining is to be done on the bus. This reduces the performance of the host bus which is crucial to performance. P6 (Pentium Pro, II, III, Celeron) has an IOQD depth of 8." How can i fix that ?........ Thanks for your Help..!!

My Motherboard : Iwill VD133 - Via Apollo pro 133. i didn't see where i can change this in the bios... and what about my question about the XP processor driver ?

Hey..... Strange thing : whenever i connect to the internet (using dial-up) sometimes my system freezes totally and i must shut down using the power button.this happens randomly (as you can see i am writing this so i can connect to the net) and every time i want to connect to the net i pray to god and hope for the best... Help Please ..

i have windows messenger in the background and norton anti-virus. i know the messenger tries to log on as soon as there is a connection. i will disable it from running when windows starts and see what happens.

hey.. i installed win xp pro and during the installation everything was fine and of course the keyboard functioned. after the final boot windows starts up,asks me to put in a user name...but my keyboard does not responde...nothing.num lock or caps lock don't respond either...keyboard is dead. i might mention that during the bios screen (when restarting, the keyboard is fine.) changed keyboard....didn't help... i am truely lost here... setup is on a clean install on a totally separated hard disk. if my hard disk with win2k is plugged into the board averything is fine. if my other hard disk with win xp is plugged into the board instead,then the keyboard stops responding as soon as the loading windows xp is showing...BUT NOT BEFORE... Please Help me....

but the funny thing is that the mouse was connected to the usb..not the keyboard,and the mouse worked,but the keyboard didn't..

mobo : Iwill's VD133 (Via's Apollo pro 133) by the way.. i kinda solved the problem.i don't know why but i unpluggeg my logitech usb mouse and used its adapter to connect it to the ps/2.......that did the job and my keyboard now functions with win XP. Why ?....i have no idea...

[specs : Win2kpro+SP2/Voodoo 3 / Mag 786 17"] I Guess you're all aware of the refresh rate problem of the voodoo cards on win 2k.. i read on this site that i can use the "Voodoo Frequency Selector" to fix the problem ,so i downloaded it and it did fix part of the problem. i set the frequencies of the D3D/Glide/OpenGl to 75 Hz on the 800*600 and the 1024*768 because these are the resolutions i use. The Good news is that Glide mode and D3D mode work great on that 75 HZ that i set with the program. The Bad news is that OpenGl was not fixed !!....moreover, the screen goes into a new mode which is about half the size of the full screen and the frequency is still 60 HZ........ i might mention that before i used this application all the API's worked full screen at 60 Hz... Please Help....
