  1. Kinda a dumb question, is there a way to send a little message to all the computers in a workgroup in winxp. i know of the net send command but can only figure out how to send a message to one computer. i would like the solution to be native to windows and not an extra program. p.s. we are not part of a domain on the network thanks .~j0Os~.

    Can cable and DSL co-exist?

If I have both cable and DSL internet service is it possible to set up a download stream that combines the two bandwidths? If not what is the best possible way for these two internet services to co-exist.

    Can cable and DSL co-exist?

Well it sounds to me like it can take a program like download accelertor which will chop a download into 2 parts....then assign a part to each connection, but you need the software, which is why the software is advertised on their site. it doesnt sound like that capability is built in. and even if it was that still is quite the merge i was looking for, but close .~j0Os~.

    Can cable and DSL co-exist?

Looks like that could be the best way to manage them at the moment...boy i wish there was a way to merge the two into one super connection though! thanks .~j0Os~.

    Weird USB gamepad problem

This one really bugs me and it only happens in winxp. I have a USB propad 8 gamepad. As soon as i plug it in it is detected right away and runs fine for about 2 minutes. As soon as i start using it though all the sudden i hear that USB 'disconnect' sound and the pad stops working. anybody have a clue what this is? here are a few things i have noticed about it. 1. it isnt the game that im playing because i will go into the game controller settings and mess with the controller for a minute and it will disconnect. 2. it isnt my computer because i have put it on 4 different computers ranging from 400 celeron up to 1.4 athlon and it is the same thing. 3.controller works beautifully without software in win2k. 4.it will do this whether plugged into a hub or right into the computer. 5.installed a windows hotfix that is supposed to help winxp usb problem with power management but didnt work. any help is appreciated thanks .~j0Os~.

Sending message to all computers on a workgroup

Well i guess i will answer this one by myself net send /domain:'workgroup name' message so if you wanted to tell the MSHOME workgroup Hello you would type net send /domain:MSHOME Hello Hope that helps others too! .~j0Os~.
  9. I was wondering if it is possible to share a cd-rom drive over a network and make the computers that it is shared to see it as a true cd-rom drive. I know that you can map to the cd-rom so that it has a specified drive letter but then it is just seen as a normal networked drive. so in effect i want to make it so if i put a cd in server A, then workstations B, C, and D will have the "auto run" from the cd pop up. i have a feeling this is imposible but it would sure be cool. thanks guys .~j0Os~.

Possible to have a networked cd-rom?

I have an idea but have no clue on how to do it. Is there maybe a config file in windows that i can alter where maybe it says something like "cd-rom=x" where x is the drive letter? i can then edit it to the name of the mapped drive. do you guys think this would work? if so what file would i need to edit? thanks .~j0Os~.

Possible to have a networked cd-rom?

I have already mapped the drive so it will network normally but it loses all the properties of being a cd-rom drive over the network. this isnt what i want. i want it to be seen as an actual cd-rom drive over the network. if there is a program to do this it would be great or a native windows solution would be better. but i dont want to use one of those virtual cd-rom apps that makes an image of the cd on a computer.

Possible to have a networked cd-rom?

Well what I guess I meant is this....lets say you have a problem with winxp on Workstation B and the OS says you have to insert the windows cd to fix it. is there any way that i can insert the cd in server A so that workstation B will recognize there is a cd in server A thus it will start extraction from the cd. kinda haed to put into words thanks .~j0Os~.

    Heeeeeelp Plllllllllease!!!

I dont understand why my system is doin this....i will be surfing the net just reading or playing a game or anything else any normal human being would do and all the sudden my cpu usage jumps to 97-100%. Any ideas? i located the process that is doin this but i cant end it(see pic). any help is greatly appreciated. Heeeeeelp Plllllllllease!!!

Whoops figures i messed up the damn pic.....well anyway the pic pretty much showed the process window in the taskmanager and it shows the process of 'system' taking up 99% cpu usage. i dont mind killing the app like you said viper but i would prefer to know what the heck is actually causing the prob....any clues on that?
  15. I format once every 6 months or so just because im a neat freak and i do so with an image that i made that was a clean dual 2k\me boot. whats weird is every other time or so i end up haveing to redo it because for whatever reason in win2k after about 30 min my system starts going in slow mode. i bring up the task manager and in processes i see that system is taking up 100% cpu usage. so i end up formatting again with the same image and its fine. what on earth could this be? 700 Athlon Asus mobo leadtek 64 mb gts philips acoustic edge

    Philips Acoustic Edge

ive had mine for about 6 months now and am very pleased with it. there are some things that need fixing in the drivers that would help but overall i havent had any real problems at all. i think it is a great card and works almost flawlessly in 2k. the worst thing ive found is that when new drivers do come around they arent a download....its one of those web update things.

    Me beats Win2k in 3dmark

Well just the oter day i formatted my drive and did a clean install of Win2k and Me. I dont use Me much but have it for backup.I was bored and decided to give Me the old 3dmark2000 benchmark for fun. Well when it finished i was in awe because my win2K 3700 got blasted by a 5700 in Me. Why do you guys think this is? Because 2k wasnt really intended for games? hardware conflict?Crappy via?Not enough RAM for 2k? heres the specs: Athlon 700(slot A 512KB cache version) Asus Mobo via chipset 160MB RAM Leadtek Winfast Geforce 2 GTS 64MB Philips Acoustic Edge Pinnacle PCTV Pro By the way, in 2000 i run 6.67 detonators and in ME i run 6.18 cause i didnt want to get the new ones...i just really doubt this makes THAT much of a difference but ill see what you guys think. Me beats Win2k in 3dmark

Thanks guys for all your replies...i guess i'll give the newer dets a try(im lazy and dont like changing them too often ). And yes i know 2k destroys Me in almost every aspect but my friend gave me a copy of 2000 and for some reason it doesnt have the boot loader so i have to have a 9x os on my machine in order to install 2k . but then again every now and then Me will come in handy at the LAN parties when for whatever reason 2000 becomes a punk and my games glitch (ever notice problems only start happening when you start the LAN party!!!!!?). As for the baby joke i just thought id give it a whirl and lighten up the forum. Q:What does Snoop Doggy Dog wash his clothes with? A:Bleeeee-aaaaaach.

Looking for a "No Problem" video card

Brian Frank: "the word of warning that I can pass along is stay away from Leadtek GeForce cards" Just wondering what you meant by this....i have a leadtek gts 64mb card and have problems at times with some games...what problems have you heard of? I asked this question in the forum before but got no replies...so thought id take a stab since you posted that.

Santa Cruz FAQ sounds interesting, BUT . . . .

Well ive been using the Philips Acoustic Edge for quite some time now and ive been quite happy...i got my friend to go out and buy one and hes been pleased also. Win2k drivers from the cd work great. as for the CL drivers youve got me their I stayed away from SB series because of the probs everybody has talked about.

    Athlon chipsets

At the moment i have an athlon system with a via chipset and would like to stay with AMD but away from via. I want to get one of the 266 fsb mobos and was wondering if you guys had anything good to say about the amd 760 chipset or the Ali chipset, especially about the agp. any help is appreciated.

    DVD --> mpeg

I would goto http://digital-digest.com and goto their divx section. personally i think putting a dvd to divx is the best solution for what you are doing because you can fit a dvd onto one cd. the prog you are most likely going to use to compress is FlaskMpeg, you should find it at the site.to rip my dvds i use claddvd and am happy with it. the only downfall to compressing dvds is the fact that you better do it over night because it takes about 8 hours to do it. hope that helps a little.

    Athlon chipsets

Thanks brian for your input...i think you are right and im going to stick with what ive got for the time being...but i sure would like to know how that amd 760 stacks up against the via. i mean i really have no big problems with my via board but i have a leadtek 64MB geforce 2 and it really isnt running as well as i thought it would. I just have a feeling its the agp problem via has that is causing it and everytime i install their new 4 in 1 drivers i freeze up a ton As for the DDR ram i really dont think its too much more expensive and dont mind spending a little extra...but alas its the mobo thats stopping me in the end.

    3Dfx was bought and why?

Well what I read in an interview with some nVidia guy is that if any 3dfx stuff ends up in an nVidia card it will be at least a year from now. there are a few things they are thinking of implementing but i forget what they were....so it is possible....and nVidia does have the rights to use the voodoo name so maybe there will be a Voodoo Geforce 720,0000,000
