In an early release of Whistler, beta 1 I think (maybe earlier), there was a colour scheme called Professional. It was a new look for Windows, similar to the normal look of Win2k, but it was white and like blue. OfficeXP uses that colour scheme, and you can still see some of the scheme is you turn the Start Menu back to normal in XP (white and blue), but no where can I see the option to make the windows and toolbars follow that scheme. Can someone help me with this? Also, in that same version, there was a way to NOT have buttons on the tool bar. The buttons were flat and faded away at the end, into the next button. Only when you hovered over them did you see an outline. It looked really good and I'm pissed that I can't find it anywhere. Also, how can I verify the version of DirectX in XP?

I'm mor interested in the first part, about the "Professional" theme

Has anyone tried DiscJuggler 3 in XP yet? It's my favourite program for cd mastering and is the only program that can burn DC games properly, so it's kinda important to me.

I want to open two connection between the two computers in my room. Each machine has 2 10mbps cards in it, one card from each is already part of the household domain. I want to increase the transfer speed the 2 comps, but can't find a second 100mbps card, so I'm using a 10/100 and a 10 for the second connection. What I need is to set the comp up to use both cards for transfers, so I get 20mpbs, not 10. I know it can be done, and I've seen help on it for NT4 and linux, but I'm lost as to where to go. I know it can be done with regular modems as well. I'm running Win2k Pro SP2 on one machine, and Win98 SE on the other.

I was looking more along the lines of 3rd party software most likely, and I meant HandY, oops Anyone have any ideas?
-
Any advice? I see you're pretty hand with the networking =)

hmmm, I'm going to need something to do it with at the other end though, on the Win98 machine.

hmmm, maybe this will help http://www.ntcompatible.com/vb/showthread.php?postid=71619&t=1182#post71619

This is what I just posted, oops

The only zip crackers I've been able to find are brute for and dictionary cracks, there isn't a way to simple extract the password or anything. Try WinRAR, rar files are more secure, stable, and compressed than zips.

I've had UT crash now and again, never figured out why myself. Didn't happen as much as it does for you though. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I would like to set up Genome to run as a service on my machine, but I've never done it in Win2k. I learned how to do it in Win9x last week, but that was pathetically easy, Win2k has a lot more services, and the registry is designed much differently in the service department. I have two instances of Genome I want to set up, the program is set in two different directories, now all I want is for them to both run at startup, regardless of whether someone is logged in or not. Thanks in advance for the help. I know it's not too hard to do q=)

Thank you ThC, I'll check it out and report back later

I was thinking about recommending a different peice of software, but I wasn't going to be so harsh about it. I happen to agree about EZCD, I'm no fan, but I'm not a huge fan of Nero either. I was going to recommend DiscJuggler for everything except protected cds, and CloneCD for the protected (SafeDisc, etc) games. Those two programs provide a combination of superbly powerful disclayout for data or audio and the ability to burn Dreamcast games, (DiscJuggler), and the ability to copy nearly any cd, as long as your burner supports it (CloneCD). The only time another program is needed (CDRWin), is when you have an image that needs the cuesheet, if it has individual music tracks as well as a bin. DiscJuggler autodetects image information, so selecting the .bin (after picking ALL FILES in burn new image), lets you burn it without the .cue file at all. And for those less honest types, all are easily registered if you know where to look. I won't go into those details as this is neither the time nor the place (check my info for icq & email)

The main thing I need to know is what the reg keys look like. In win9x the key was just the path of the program, but i'm confused here.

I saw that view!

Question about the anti-piracy thing in Whistler
brainsoft replied to INFERNO2000's topic in Hardware
What does it mean by Machine ID? It's not just talking about the computer name is it? If so, that's pathetic really. What happens if you don't "activate" it? What will happen, Whistler will only operate as a registration form until you activitate it? Or are they more likely to give you a few days to get around to doing it, and then have Whistler turn into the most expensive program form you ever bought? ------------------ brainsoft, Xi Base & JJR512.com Co-Administrator. hmmm, interesting. Guess I'll have to wait for Beta 2 to be released for real to find out though. ------------------ brainsoft, Xi Base & JJR512.com Co-Administrator. XiBase/JJR512 Activelist: 83320323 "I don't know how I got here, I was only looking for the washroom."

rickkinz, I've tried that before, it doesn't work, it'll just make a big mess. So many files are pointing to WinME at windows.000 and if you renamed it, all those files would still be pointing the windows.000. Everything then commences to fall apart because nothing can find what it's looking for, it's all bad. Avoid that road. It's sometimes rewarding to rough it out when faced with a challange... this is not one of those times. Format and reinstall, it'll save your self a huge head-ache. Actually, if you have some time to waste you should see for yourself what happens, so you know from personal experience, not just from what you heard a few know-it-alls say about it. You'll learn a lot more by experiencing something first hand then by hearing stories. "Trust me..." is a line that should be avoided... I agree with Shrink... what's your problem? I know you know your stuff jdulmage, I saw that a few months ago when you were taking some serious heat, but none the less you still helped people. What happened? Now you're an elitist prick, it's not a good image for you (doesn't match your eyes). Treat others how you would like to be treated... it's true ya know. He asks a question and even if slightly uneducated, it's a completely fair question. Your imidiate response: sarcasm, followed by more sarcasm, stacking higher and deeper. What do you expect to get in return? People are allowed to ask questions! That's kind of the point of this board, is it not? Are your eyes brown, or are you just full of sh!t? Calm down, play nice, you're not better than the rest of us jdulmage, despite what you may think. ;( ------------------ brainsoft, Xi Base & JJR512.com Co-Administrator. This is part of the reason I went back to Win2k. I got my FPS2000 speakers for christmas, but I couldn't get the surround or EAX working properly. The other reason was I couldn't install the MS Strategic Commander softare properly, so I dumped it for a while. Hard to do, but had no choice really. It'll be back though! ------------------ brainsoft, Xi Base & JJR512.com Co-Administrator. XiBase/JJR512 Activelist: 83320323 "I don't know how I got here, I was only looking for the washroom."

There are versions mentioned in numerous thread titles, but I unfortunately don't have time to read through them all. The last version I used was 2250 which was very buggy, but showed great promise! I see reference to 2276 and 2267 and other numbers... Which ones are real and what's the newest? ------------------ brainsoft, Xi Base & JJR512.com Co-Administrator.
