Hi, A major problem that is bugging the hell out of me. I have Win2k Pro, IE 5.5 and DUN. All worked fine. I then decided to install SP1 for Win2k. Now my DUN and IIS do not work - when I say work I mean I can dial out, connect to the internet but can cannot get mail or web pages to load. In my network settings for DUN I have TCP and Microsoft File & Printer sharing installed. To get DUN network to work, I have to delete DUN, reinstall IE 5.5, and then reinstall DUN, it then works. Then once I install MS File & printer sharing for IIS to work, it no longer works again. I have tried to delete SP1 for still cannot get it to work. Is this a problem witb IE 5.5, and if so, how do I delete it when its not in my add remove programs. In my network settings in control panel I have listed Direct Parallel and Wan Miniport listed - if this helps. Hope anyone can give guidance, Hopelessly confused, Scott

Query on the amount of disk space the SP1 download takes. I run Win2k Professional and when I instlled it I have the Sp1 folder, about 140 meg, and the backup, over 200meg. Seems alot. Can I delete any of these as approx 400 meg i total is alot space gone in a flash. Scott

Just got everything running spot on i.e Intenet Explorer, IIS etc. So then it was time to try SP1 again. Downloaded fine. Run Internet Explorer, logged on, connected to ISP Ok but still no bloady data getting to the browser or Outlook. Tried to update IE, no way, kept bigging out. So, removed SP1, rebooted, and guess what, can now get on the Internt, get e-mails etc , IIS is OK. So the moral of the story is - DONT INSTALL SP1.

On boot up, the screen shows 2 references to Windows 2000, plus my other OS - Win98. I have Win2k on C, and Win98 on D. I would like to delete one ref to Win2k. I have looked for a boot.ini file, no luck. How do I do it. Thanks

Bugger this, sp1 is complete nightmare. The only thing that could be a problem is if you upgraded from Win98 like I did. So I have had to take drastic action. I have deleted Winnt folder (after booting into win98), copied settings in my settings folder and mail etc and then reinstaleed Win2k. Then I have had to reinstall all my programs so Win2k stores them in the registry, but most still work anyway as did not delete Program Files etc. Now everything works fine, IIS works, DUN works . But I am not installing IE5.5 stay with 5.01 and next I will try an install SP1. Miny you, saved about 400meg of space.

HI, Want to setup a home network of 2 computers. One will be running Win2k, the other Win98/95 , both on fat32. Have anybody know of any web sites that will tell me how to do it etc. Will no doubt be going down the crossover cable route, but may eventually get access to a hub. Scott

Hi, Got an Omnivsion Web Cam. I have downloaded the latest drivers for Win2k off there web site, and run the setup program and inturn it loads all the .inf files, twain etc into there right directory. Win2k detects that I have a USB device but cannot find any suitable drivers. I have tried pointing it at the relevent .inf file but then scans the whole folder but still no detect. How can I force it to accept the drivers. ? Thanks Scott

Hi, Sorry for the cross post but I find this forum, you get the best advice. I want to set up a home network, nothing fancy, just 2 pcs joined together. One will be running Win2k, the other Win95/98 both fat32. Probably going down the crossover cable route but maybe eventually when more confident get a hub. I was wondering if anybody could give me a few pointers on how to do it or refer me to any web sites that would help. Thanks Scott

Hi, I just installed IIS to host a ftp site at home. Basically, it is showing as not started, and when I try and start it, in the Internet Service Manager the message I get is "The service did not start etc etc ina timely fashion". I have checked my network connections and in Control Panel/System/Hardware I have about 10 references to netbeui, mostly dial in, and a couple dial out ones. I try to delete these ( as could explain why my computer takes ages to load), but all I get is that Windows nead these to start and so access is denied. Am I looking in the right palce ??? Input from you fine people please, Scott

Ok, a newbie question, so apologies, have to learn sonewhere. Running win2k with IIS service, no problem setting it up to point to a directory etc, with an IP address. The question I have, as have a different IP address every time I log, as my ISP cuts me off every 2 hours (0800 number in UK), is there any way that I can have a link on a web site to my ftp site on my computer without having to constantly change the IP address when I get cut off. I think not, but If I dont ask I dont know. Scott

HI, Have had Win2k installed for a while now, installed using 120 evaluation disk but with a full version serial - so have non time limited version. The only niggle is that I have the "Win2k 120 eva etc etc" script on the bottom right hand screen, and it will not go away. Have tried numerous ways. Hope someone can help, Scott

Problem or quandie, depending on the outcome. At present Dual booting Win98 & Win2k. Have evaluated Win2k, checked my hardware ect, replaced printer as will not run on Win2k, but voodoo 2 cannot run Direct x games on Win2k as its not supported. So, I would like to upgrade my C Drive to Win2k as have 4 gig of programes etc, but then like to install Win98 on separate partition to play the odd game. I though have been told this is not possible as nead to have Win98 on C and Win2k on D. Is this true or can someone help. Scott

Sound pretty simple. So if I get this right, Delete D drive at the moment install Win98 on D drive, and then should be able to upgrade my C Drive to Win2k, as it is the one with 4gig of programs on. The only thing I see is a probelem , if I recall does Win2k have a problem when upgrading on a system with 2 operating systems running, PLus what about boot loader? Scott
