hehe, youd almost think MS are manipulating the ram prices.. and god knows they could.. would make sence eh, get PCs ladend up with ram, increase the standard threshold on a gamers pc, then release the new OS that happily chews it up

It's not a game as such, but a game related tool anyway.. isnt that compatibility thing just a built in version of the win2k App Compat tool?

W2k PRO SPDIF/Dolby Digital/A3d/EaX support!
Lord-Data replied to Speeder's topic in Customization & Tweaking
it would depend on your hardware. i only know about teh SBLive, EAX and A3D 1.0 is supported, im sure the a3d cards support a3d2 fine in win2k. ac3/spdif is *NOT* supported by creative drivers. -
curious, if I have whistler Professional installed, and wish to downgrade to personal, is it possible? or will i have to re-install from scratch?
-
damn. oh well. ill stick with professional then
-
the expire time is 180 days... thats 6 months. the final is due out by then. christ, if you intend to be using beta1 then,. well.. sigh, your own problem beta2 and the rc's will have been well widespread both my MS and the other methods .. and chances are you'll have the final in your hands.

Lord-Data replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
mmhmm.. naughty pirate copy ;P um, there was a website posted a while back about making win2k cd bootable, same applies to the whitsler one. do a search of the messageboard for something like "bootable win2k" or somfin... -
please explain how to dual-boot Win98 and Whistler beta
Lord-Data replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
dont install Whistler in C:\WINDOWS and you'll be fine. put it in C:\WINNT like 2k does i guess. -
whistler also has teh ability to import exported settings from other OS's, but i dont think MS have written/released the apps to export teh settings from those, so at the moment an upgrade is the only choice
-
I tried the upgrade (pro) initally, and after a lock up during install, my systems hdd was no longer bootable, so i gave up and booted from the cd and installed it fresh.
-
same deal isnt it? oh well, doesnt matter.
-
F6 to load drivers. F5 in win2k lets you force a System type (ACPI, etc) f5 in beta1 however seems to be the Automated System Recovery thing (which sucks compared to win2ks btw..)
-
the fact you put a z on teh end of serials instead of an s suggests a reason behind that .. if you want an MS cd key, most of the time theyr just GUID's anyway. ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com

well, if you can read it from win2k, back up the data, then format it in whistler, if need be. i dont knwo why win2k coudl read it and not whislter tho.. ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com

What is the difference between Whistler Professional and Per
Lord-Data replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
shs, you know if personal has remote desktop? i thought i read somewhere that it didnt.. oh well, doesnt matter., as for games, i cant imagine why thered be a difference, unless your very low ram and personal doesnt have as many services... ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com -
mmm. i had a look, couldnt find it anywhere, if you find out, lemme know, mine was up to 250 meg .. (now thats where my hdd space was going..) ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com

not exactly the same thing, actually completely different, but dvd related, i cant get rear sound to work from windvd in whistler. using DVD genie (i only have an OEM lisence) i coudl enable 4 speaker sound in win2k, and it would work perfectly. using the ac3test.vob from www.digital-digest.com, it would come out the same as the liveware test. under whistler, the liveware test works fine, all 4 speakers, but windvd doesnt, only 2, even with dvdgenie enabling 4 speakers. Anyone got any ideas? ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com

What is the difference between Whistler Professional and Per
Lord-Data replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
personal is kind of the product to follow on after Winme, while professional is kinda in the vein of workstation. personal supports only one cpu, and i think a max ram limit. it doesnt include things like remote desktop either. probably more differences too -
no... but perhaps theres a setting wrong in your setup? Check the DNS servers your using against the ones your ISP says you should be using.. perhaps your primary is timing out, so it has to wait to fall back to the secondary.. or somfin..

IE in Whistler Pro beta1 is fine here as well.

personally? i hate the hpt366 i disabled it and bought a promise udma card .. but that aside, i dont know, but id say it probably does .. when i f6 and attempt to load the drivers for the promise udma66 card it says that whistler already has drivers for this device, do i really want to use them, etc. ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com

well obviously id need a 5.1 card just been a lot of posts about 5.1's not doing teh 5.1 due to a win2k thing. hmm so using the analogue outputs, you can watch a dvd in 5.1? which dvd software do you use and was tehre any tricks to it? i so want one of those cards, just wanna make 100% sure it'll work before i get it ------------------ www.thewolfslair.com
