    I'm removing C:\ again

The XP recovery console thing sounds very interesting. I would love to try that if someone would help me with the right commands? Reinstalling is a very much unwanted option for me, since I have so much stuff set up in XP right now. It would take me days to install/reconfigure everything to the current state.

  3. A friend of mine put an Athlon PC together with the Abit KG7 mobo (amd 761 northbridge/via 686b southbridge). He´s running winXP2600 and is wondering what chipset drivers (if any) is needed for the agp and ide stuff in winXP (and winME because of dualbooting) Thanks

How do you edit the logonui.exe? With UltraEdit?
  6. Im dualbooting winME\winXP. winME was acting strange and I decided to reinstall it. I saved all the important system files in the C: dir, thinking I could put them back to enable the dualboot as it was before, but it`s not working. Neither did it work if I booted from a diskette with ntldr and the other NT bootfiles. This is the setup: C: winME (active) D: winXP E: ftp F: ftp2 F: ftp3 Please can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Question about via 4in1 4.33 under WinXp

VIA 4-1 4.33 installed in winXPFinal just fine. Everything is great and smooth, including games. I dont understand what some of you guys are dibbling about. If you have VIA chipsets and winXP you want to install at least the AGP driver from the 4.33 package.

    Netscape 6.1

I installed Netscape 6.1 because my Internet Bank didnt support IE6 at all. Its working great and all, I was just wondering if you had any experiences from using NS6.1 in winXP2600? Are there sites that are ONLY funtioning with IE? Because that´s what my friend tells, he hates Netscape by the way

    winXP2600 memory HUNGRY !

It seems 256MB isnt enough. When playing online for a couple of hours the memory seems depleted. Everything gets really slow and sometimes it freezes. I increased the virtual mem to a major 500Mb, but still I get the message saying "virual mem running low..." Is my only option getting another 256MB module or can I tweak it somehow? thanks for any tips specs: amd 1200 (not overclocked) abit kt7a (latest bios) 256mb mosel pc133 7ns geforce 3 (detonatorXP 21.81) not many programs running in the background

Certain games wont drop to the desktop.

I had similar problems. For ex when I had been playing this Q3A mod online for an hour or two the computer got screwed up, especially when I put up a dedicated gameserver which ate a lot of memory. When I quit the game everything was superslow and windows opened in slowmotion. Sometimes it just froze and I had to restart. You know what solved my problem entirely? More RAM, I upped 256Mb for a total of 512Mb and the problem was gone. XP eats RAM like crazy!

Anyone tried the new SBLive drivers?

The ones posted on the main page that is. If so, how is it working?

Anyone tried the new SBLive drivers?

Fatfish: I cancelled the installation because I didnt know which file to update from. It´s the win2000 one isn´t it? I didnt want to screw things up so I decided to wait for someone else to try it first I have had severe SBLive problems in the past. (not with winXP though)

Ne1 with winXP devilsOwn - read this

Im running with NO problems at all. Its excellent, especially after installing more RAM so Im up to 512Mb, XP eats RAM like a dog! I have a lot of programs installed and everything works great. FTPServer, Norton AV 2002, Norton Personal Firewall etc etc etc. None of the programs have ever failed. Other hardware: Athlon1200 AbitKT7AR 512MbPC133 LeadtekGF3 SBLive1024 DLinkNIC SonyCRX100E 3HDDS
  22. It all works now, thanks for all the help APK !
  23. I allow incoming and outgoing packets thru the specific port for the BulletProofFTP program in the firewall configuration. (Makes no difference if I set it to "permit all" which seems strange to me because that should work?) Clients mostly use CuteFTP with username/password/port/normal login. (What is PASV mode?) I will try to fix this during the weekend when I have time. I hope I get it up and running Thanks
  24. Does Norton Personal Firewall have any configureability? Yes, I installed it just the other day so I haven´t checked everything out, but it seems like a very good firewall with all the neccassary configuration options. Does it allow ports to pass thru which you can specify, what is called a rules table (not just ports to block traffic from, but ones to allow)?? Yes, I can allow block as well as pass thru specific ports. The FTP Server you are running... does it integrate into the OS itself, like the one IIS has (is it IIS, & are you running the server model of XP)??? No, its not integrated into the OS. Its a stand alone application.(Im running winXP2600Pro) When they try to login to the FTP, it just says "connecting..." and it stays there. Disable the firewall and VOILA! Logs in right away and everyones account works the way it should. Even if not... check the rights of that folder, by right clicking on it in Explorer.exe & seeing if anyone can access it! This is like chmod in Unix more or less... allowing remote users to logon is one thing, but to get to the folder & use them is a filesystem issue possibly also! I made all the neccasary access rights for groups and users in the FTP program itself. ( It´s all working like it should (as long as the firewall is disabled ) ALSO: Is this a "mixed OS" environment? Some of those guys have Win9x/ME/98 boxes or NT ones signing onto you?? Mostly winME, but a few winXP2600Pro ones (shouldn´t matter in this case?) Thanks
  25. Hi APK, this is Nico from the late 3dfiles forum, nice to see you again ! I´m running winXP2600 and just installed Norton Personal Firewall for security (disabled the "below standard" built-in winXP firewall). The thing is I cant get the FTP to work with the firewall. I try to allow TCP/UDP transfers specific for the FTP program(BulletProof FTP) and I also add the specific port allowed, but still my friends cant login to the FTP when the firewall is enabled. Do you have a clue what I could have missed here? Thx
