Use of Partition Magic 6 to first delete and then to create a new partition and format it to NTFS cleans up any HD problem prior to installation. Too many programs try to write to the master boot record.

Standard PC may be useful for getting two sound cards to work in the same computer. Slots 1 to 4 may be locked in Bios to Irq 11, 10, 5, 4 and the other Irq and adressing resources switched in Device Manager. I found after installing a Lexmark printer as fifth USB device that the frequent mouse and screen lockups disappeared after reinstalling Windows 2000 with ACPI after choosing PCI Irq on AUTO in the Bios.

The Whistler DirectX Beta 2 that Dos Freak previously posted on Freedrive works beautifully with a GeForce 3.

Summoner plays perfectly under Windows 2000.

Push F5 key right at the start of Windows 2000 installation and soon a list appears on screen with Standard PC choice at the top. Switching on an installed system is not difficult but involves new detection and installation of hardware devices such as the mouse.

Rogue Squadron needs a patch for DirectX to play well in Windows 2k.

Nero 5.5.2.4 is out on Ahead ftp site. Microsoft Windows Media Player uses Roxio plug-in from ECDC 5. No wonder the speed is the same. Quality is abysmal -relatively- to other compression techniques. Most standard 133 Mhz Sdram can now work at Cas 2. My computer uses 3 x 256 Mgs at 143 Mhz, 7 ns, 2-2-2 bought at regular prices. The Windows 2000 memory sub-system is so very efficient that the speed improvement is just only perceptible.

Wizards and Warriors does not play well under Windows 2000. The town gate on the right does not open, access to the mayor's house and the wizard's are unavailable. Wizardry should bring a breath of fresh air to RPG gaming.

Homeword CD holds a GLSetup folder but that third party OpenGL solution only works in Windows 98.

It depends what type of mouse and keyboard hardware, Logitech, microsoft, or other is used. For example Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro drivers on Windows 2000 work only in USB mode and not PS/2.

Did you check the quality of your ram? Did you include the hard disk controller driver at the very beginning of installation (key F6)? Integration of SP2 in a boot CD works well but two things to watch: -file cdromsp2.tst must not be copied too soon to the Windows 2k root directory since it could prevent the update; -update must be run from the Windows 2k root directory, not from its own i386 and not from the SP2 update directory.

Windows 2k includes its own drivers for Ms Force Feedback 1 plugged through the midi port. I do not remember that Sidewinder 3.02 software could be installed. The quality of the sound card midi port can bring problems. Some few cards did provide accelerated ports for joysticks (Diamond Monster sound series). Ms Force Feedback 2 USB comes with Sidewinder 4 software for the installation of USB HID drivers. Use with Ms FF 1 seems improbable. The Compatibility tab in Sidwinder 4 panel contains this: "Version 4.0 of the SideWinder software works only with SideWinder USB-only game controllers. Installing version 4.0 doesn't delete or overwrite earlier versions of the SideWinder software. You need to use version 3.02 or earlier to customize your SideWinder game port controllers." So SW 3.02 and 4.00 can be combined on Windows 98 or Millenium but not Windows 2000 due to SW 3.02 installation problem. Force Feedback 1 will work fine with Starlancer, Tachyon but not with Combat Flight Simulator 2. FF 2 does the reverse. I keep MS FF 1 & 2 joysticks and a CH Combat Flight stick for older Windows and Dos games like Longbow. Games being programmed to use analog, digital or USB, the use of the proper joystick is sometimes necessary to play.

The 5.01 update patch resolves the Take 2 problem in ECDC 5.0 Platinum. Check for Microsoft Media Player 7 and remove its Adaptec CD-R plug-in component through Control Panel.
