The reason would be that ECDC 5, Nero and Clone CD all write either Upperfilter and Lowerfilter StringValues in Registry which may cause interference with the built-in Windows XP CD-Rom drivers.

When DirectDraw does not work, to reinstall Windows XP is the sole option. What does DX Diagnostic tell after Start, Run, dxdiag?

Eax works well on Windows XP with Santa Cruz or SB Audigy with Nvidia Detonators 12.41 for games like Starlancer and Independence War 2 Edge of Chaos.

Those rules are found in Registry keys. Get backup instructions here: http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideoe5/backup/bu_full.htm

Try Windows Update first then activate DMA rather than PIO mode through Ide Controllers in Device Manager and finally try to reverse the Master-Slave CD to CD-RW arrangement.

The Nv4 files hold the XP drivers and will be recreated even after deletion. One or two other Microsoft files names hold "nv" letters. Right click, choose Properties, select Version tab and check Company: if it reads Nvidia in the right panel then delete the file. It can also help to delete installation files in previous temporary folders like these: C:\Documents and Settings\***UserName***\Local Settings\Temp\ and to remove the Oemxx.inf files relating to Nvidia drivers in C:\Windows\Inf.
-
The problem is perhaps caused by remaining files from previous Nvidia drivers. Uninstall drivers through Control Panel and erase all Nv... files in C:\Windows\, reboot and reinstall Detonators.

Choose either F5 or F7 for the Standard PC list. F6 is for Raid and SCSI drivers. If you need both, push F7 and F6 at the same time. It is not not possible to go from ACPI to Standard PC by changing drivers because these are different kernels so all plug and play and hardware identification has to be redone and Repair could only reinstall ACPI.

Check Bios Floppy optiona, Config.sys and Autoexec.bat, all Startup Folders and all Indexing services. Visit the View menu options in Device Manager for any resource conflict.
-
Open Control Panel, System Properties, Advanced tab, click Settings in Startup And Recovery section and clear all check boxes.
-
Try Start, Run, dxdiag, More Help tab, Override. Also get the latest Monitor definition or use Plug an Play Monitor.

ACPI is a Microsoft OS related system spepcification. Try to use APM which is based in the Bios and will vary with the motherboard. On a Standard (non ACPI) PC a tab "APM" should appear in Power Options to allow activation. Then choose options in Bios.

The difference in the past peaked around 10% but is much reduced on new disks due to higher density and to big ram caches.

Should I disable ACPI so all my PCI devices have their own I
Wolf87 replied to DARTH maul's topic in Hardware
Set the motherboard Bios entry "PCI Latency Timer" to 64. SB Live and Audigy cards benefit greatly. ACPI disabling through a driver change leads to serious problems. -
Startup.cpl or RegCleaner would help identify and remove unwanted commands operating at boot time. Use Notetab on OEMxx.inf files in C:\Windows\Inf and remove those related to Scanner and SCSI drivers. Uninstall all Scanner and SCSI entries in Device Manager. Reboot and reinstall the latest 1998 Scanport drivers.

How do I enable SBA onmy GeForce2 GTS under XP Pro???
Wolf87 replied to DARTH maul's topic in Hardware
Even tough the motherboard Bios may allow Fastwrite, most GeForce cardmakers desactivate not only Sidebanding but also Fastwrite in hardware while Nvidia exclude it from their drivers for good reason. Writing your own GeForce Bios is the only sure way to activate those. -
Plug keyboard in first USB onboard connector and mouse in the USB bracket connector. Or buy a Lucent QuadraBus USB connector aold either in version 1.1 or USB 2 to get four outlets of full unshared USB. Overclocking cannot then exceed 1573 Mhz for a 1700+ processor.

First check that all smplscsi.xxx files for Windows 9X have already been deleted and try these: http://www2.driverguide.com/files/uploads11/33267/ScanportSQ2030-XP.zip If these do not work read about the Microtek XP drivers: http://www.support.microtek.com/~admin/windows_xp_landing_page.htm

Start, Run, type services.msc, double click WMI Performance Adapter to access its Control Box and Start, Stop, Pause or Disable WMI. Check that the logon account has the access rights: Start, Run, type secpol.msc, Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment and assign Service right to the account for Logon.

Choose Folder Options, View, Show Hidden Files and Folders, Apply to all Folders. Go to C:\Windows\Inf and read Oem00.inf to Oemxx.inf files using notepad. These files replace those from Windows 9X that were included in C:\Windows\Inf\Other Folder. Remove the files related to Scanner drivers. Uninstall Scanner in Device Manager. After reboot the Scanner should be identified as a new device. Let Windows find its own drivers.

Use AC97 Digital Audio if available on the motherboard.

CD-RW programs are often paired with a packet writing utility like InCD by Ahead or the one by NTI. For Direct CD from ECDC 5, apply all previous patches up to 5.02, then apply official XP Update and then all 5.02 patches. Or get a Mount Rainier file system CD-RW drive (Yamaha 3200, Philips) for packet writing without software.
