Check this thread where a similar problem was solved: http://www.ntcompatible.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=15079&highlight=cdrom Hope this helps.

The best drivers yet for Windows 2K, better than the previous 4098 XP. They solve the hissing and popping in BlackIsle RPG games when the Ambient sound is activated. Everything is now perfect with EAX.
-
Close Net Meeting before playing those games and install the latest Windows 2000 Compatibility Update.

There is no certainty that the Wheel tab or the Scroll one in Togglemouse software will grant control of the mouse wheel, but it is worth a try. Otherwise, use the New Hardware icon in Control Panel and find if any other compatible mouse driver would allow the control of the wheel.
-
If after reboot the registry entries do not work for this IBM mouse, remove the entries and try mouse control software ToggleMouse: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-146...991-100-1997621

Once in the right key, right click panel on the right side, choose New Dword value and type in those parameters. When they appear in the right panel, double click them, choose decimal and enter desired numerical value.
-
First Export Registry to make a back up. Search for EnableWheelDetection or WheelDetectionTimeout in Registry. You should find a key similar to this one: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\*PNP0F03\1_0_21_0_31_0\Device Parameters] Edit "EnableWheelDetection" to decimal 2 (0 = no wheel 1 = detect wheel 2 = enable wheel) and restart. Edit "WheelDetectionTimeout" to decimal 1500 or more. Edit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WheelScrollLines to decimal 0 to 98 for line scroll and to 99 for page scroll.

The new Application Compatibility Toolkit 1.5 contains an updated QFixApp to provide compatibility solutions for Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/defa...ompositedoc.xml How to Enable Application Compatibility-Mode Technology in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (disabled by default): http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q279/7/92.ASP

In QFixApp panel, click Advanced tab, browse to the game and make Fix Support. Sometimes ACT 1.5 will activate anti-debugging tools from the CD copy-protection software. The message box containing "Please remove the debugger" could also appear in the case of Safedisc 2. Proceed first to remove the copy protection software to resolve this: http://w3.to/protools http://go.to/gamefix Make a full install of the game, remove copy-protection, apply ACT 1.5 to the new executable and run the game without the CD.

Patch 1.01 now available for download to correct the Max Payne compiler optimizations errors found on the published CD: ftp://ftp.talonsoft.com/pub/patches/godgames/maxpayne/maxpayne-101patch.exe
-
Type this after Start, Run, to enable compatibility mode with SP2: regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll Max Payne goes back to desktop on Windows 2000 and Geforce 3 with both AMD or Pentium CPUs. The patch should be published here soon: http://www.talonsoft.com/patches/index.html

Did you disable the serial ports in the BIOS? Try this first. If you mean the installation software did not recognize this port, try installing other com ports (com 1, 2, 3, 4). It may be hardware coded to com 3 or 4. If Generic Modem means a WinModem or HaM modem, the specific drivers are necessary for installation. If you did not get a diskette or CD-Rom with software for installation, maybe Modem Central can help you: http://www.56k.com/ Intel Hardware assisted Modem drivers site: http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/support/drivers.htm

The result is much inferior to a high resolution computer monitor. With Hercules Geforce 3, screen resolution must be set at 800x600, 8 bit color with 60 Hertz refresh rate first. Software tools are not ready for GeForce 3 yet on those sites but could come out soon: http://come.to/tvout/ (button on the left for the English version) http://www.stereovision.net (doing maintenance now) Buy RCA converter jacks and screw them at both end of a 75-ohm RG59 co-axial cable. Plug this cable in the TV at one end and the S-VHS video to RCA composite converter cable at the other (included with the Hercules Prophet 3 card). Total cost will be 20% of the price of a high quality video cable.

Windows installs com ports as a preliminary process to the modem being installed. To do so manually, go to Control Panel, Add remove Hardware, click next, choose Add/Troublesoot a device and after the initial search for new devices choose Add at the top of the list, next, No I want to choose from a list, Ports (com and Lpt) will install the com port. Repeat the process to install more com ports. Check the modem card for pin placement operating choice of com port.

Your conclusion goes to the point. I once read a thread about WinDVD sometimes messing up the audio files. The DVD player installation software gets mixed-up by the added CD-ROM related Regitry entries.
-
The resolution could exceed the monitor specification or the monitor driver files have not been installed.

Those Registry keys instruct Windows 2000 to use CDFS (CD-ROM File System) to read CD-ROM discs through the use of cdrom.sys: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CDFS\0000] "Service"="cdfs" "Legacy"=dword:00000001 "Class"="LegacyDriver" "DeviceDesc"="cdfs" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_CDFS\0000\Control] "ActiveService"="Cdfs" If those Dwords are all in place, the best bet is first to make a back-up of the previously discussed key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] and then to remove the unknown "AFS2K PFC _2K _2K" which seems to refer to a different File System. Then rename also all instances of AFS2K PFC _2K _2K.sys to AFS2K PFC _2K _2K.sy_. Both must be done to have any effect or an enumerator call will still activate the driver. Those lower and upper filters refer to hardware call libraries installed through files developed by specific companies. Cdralw2k.sys is owned by Adaptec-Roxio and is inocuous here. Likewise interrupt 11 is probably shared rather than in conflict and unrelated to this. Sometimes the removal of a hardware call library file written out as a filter restores a Windows 2000 device driver declared unavailable.

The hard disk gives indication of working but a number of Windows 2000 files may be damaged. Try using the CD-ROM recovery console for repairing the NTFS partition. -
DirectX 8.1 makes changes to DirectInput with improvement. Results were satisfactory with Logitech Wingman Extreme USB & MS Joystick Force Feedback 2 USB. Intellimouse USB seems to work better since very rarely slowdowns or shaking previously occurred and they have now disappeared. Ms Commander USB as always works perfectly.

This attempt at solution can be used immediately. Insert your Windows 2000 Pro installation disc. Start, Run: expand <CD-ROM drive>:\i386\cdrom.sy_ %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\cdrom.sys Shutdown and restart the system. The CD-ROM driver has been renewed.

These tests could throw some light on what is happening: A) Make a backup of Registry through Export in the menu. Check if Dwords Lower & Upper Filters are now installed in this key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] "UpperFilters"= "LowerFilters"= After a right click on My Computer, Manage, System Tools, System Information, Hardware Resources, Conflicts/Sharing, does any conflict appear in the right panel? C) After a right click on My Computer, Manage, Storage, Removable Storage, Physical Locations, do Pioneer 116 DVD-ROM & Plextor 12x10x32 appear?

Once Coolbits registry hack is enabled, the Hardware tab for overclocking appears in Control Panel and it works.
-
If you cannot use a CD-RW, copy Windows 2000 Pro CD on a hard disk seperate partition, copy SP2 in another folder there and make the integration. Re-install from this hard disk partition.

For easy overclock, move over to 12.60 or 12.90 leaked drivers. 12.41 drivers are Microsoft approved and received WHQL status under condition of no overclocking or V Sync disabling through registry. Most tweaking programs slip around this limitation built into Nvidia NvCplDaemon function in the Detonator 12.41 by using NvXTInit commands and wreak havoc with the NV registry keys. They also use NvColorInit and often make you lose DirectDraw and OpenGL access. If you still want to overclock Detonators 12.41 get Powerstrip the safest of overclocking program with an effective removal option: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm

When PCI bus master DMA is active, the CPU (10% use) deals only with a single interrupt at the time the IDE command completes. In standard PIO operation the CPU (90% use) services an interrupt , every time a block of data becomes available from the device. Examine the following key in Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\ScsiPort x 0 is primary and 1 is secondary ide device. Unless a Raid or Scsi controller is present because then ScsiPort 0 is a raid or scsi device; 1 is primary controller and 2 is secondary controller. Scsi is always detected first and even IDE controllers are detected as being Scsi. Just open this key further for identifcation of attached physical devices whether hard disk, CD-ROM, DVD or CD-RW. To activate UDMA, read this: http://www.arstechnica.com/tweak/nt/udma.html Or get the Power DVD 3.0 Demo that includes a small program to check and activate UDMA. Unless Service Pack 2 is installed, UDMA 66 and UDMA 100 are by default desactivated in Windows 2000.
