    Outlook 2000 problem...

You are right: Recycle Bin on Global settings is unrelated. My previous test failed because I counted just the number of unread messages which remains unchanged but erased messages are still transferred to Deleted Items Folder and can be seen there.
  3. Either the CD itself or the ram reading it. Tranfers of data to the motherboard memory cache do not operate normally. Since the CD worked before and if it is now clean, a ram operation problem is involved.

    Outlook 2000 problem...

In Recycle Bin properties, a mark has been put in the box near: "Do not put files in the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when Deleted". This is a system wide command. Because of this, e-mail messages erased from the Inbox do not go into the Deleted items folder. They are removed immediately when deleted.

    Kernel_Stack_Inpage_Error

The Windows 2000 Resource kits are now freely available online: http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en/default.asp In the Windows 2000 Error Reference, Section Kernel, Sub-section STOP lists this error, caused by a bad block in the paging file or by a disk controller error. Either the virtual momory file written to disk was corrupted or was unreadable due to disk access failure. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en/w2000Msgs/1224.htm If SP2 is not installed, install the Windows 2000 memory leak patch: http://download.microsoft.com/download/w..._SP2_x86_en.EXE This could be due to any piece of hardware or software, the power settings or ACPI configuration. Update hard disk controller driver.

    cpu wont overclock anymore?

Maybe ram acting up due to overclocking or bios timings. Often ram must be slowed to facilitate overclocking. Sometimes a reasonable Vcore increase can compensate. Or maybe the Via drivers acting up.

    Wizards And Warriors

After installation of Wizards & Warriors, it refuses to run on Windows SP2. Get the developers Beta patch here: http://www.heuristicpark.com/ The Windows 2000 Application compatibility Toolkit officially does not work anymore with SP2. Windows XP ACT Administrator Database lists this game with the files to be corrected and the fixes to bring on them. So it seems like it could play, after a lot of work on it.
  8. Right click My Computer, Manage, Storage, Disk Management. The drives appear on the lower right on grey background. Right click drive and change its driver letter.
  9. Choose F5 to always install Standard PC. Pressing F7 would choose Standard PC when the BIOS contains the line "Plug and Play OS: NO". Either F5 or F7 can be pushed at the same time as the F6 key to also ensure SCSI or Raid controller driver installation.

    Outlook 2000 problem...

This should be controlled from the Menu: Tools, Option, Maintenance or old mail can be managed with the program Outlook Express Backup: http://www.genie-soft.com/

  12. Check this Registry key for Lower filters and Upper filters: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] "Class"="CDROM" @="DVD/CD-ROM drives" "EnumPropPages32"="MmSys.Cpl,MediaPropPageProvider" "Installer32"="storprop.dll,DvdClassInstaller" "SilentInstall"="1" "NoInstallClass"="1" "TroubleShooter-0"="tshoot.chm,hdw_drives.htm" "Icon"="-51" "UpperFilters"=hex(7):43,00,64,00,72,00,61,00,6c,00,77,00,32,00,6b,00,00,00,70,\ 00,77,00,64,00,5f,00,32,00,6b,00,00,00,00,00 "LowerFilters"=hex(7):43,00,64,00,72,00,34,00,5f,00,32,00,4b,00,00,00,00,00 This is an excerpt with Roxio filters for ECDC 5. These filters cause the problem. They authorize use of program specific services placed in some Library which conflict with programs accessing similar hardware resources. Some programs still work without them. You could try to export this key and then erase the Dword containing the filters. Beware this: most programs using such filters (typical for Adaptec, Roxio, Logitech programs) do not remove these registry entries during unintallation of the program and leave you stuck with permanent conflicts. Their logic is they consider legitimate preventing the replacement of their own program with a competitor's product.

    Eratic (choppy) screen movement

This is an important point that does not come out clearly about VGA mode being involved and not VGA drivers. In fact, VGA should NOT be selected for installation. If a screen offering this appears on reboot after removal of Damond card, just hit cancel. Otherwise some generic VGA drivers would get installed. What does occur is that any new graphic card is booted, by default, as operating in VGA resolution and color depth. It then operates in VGA mode until the proper drivers get intalled which are cetainly not drivers for a VGA card.

    Backing up the Registry Key

Select any Registry key in the left panel, choose Export from menu and choose any name with .reg extension. The full Registry would be around 25 Megs. A single key may be stored in a few kilobytes.

    Eratic (choppy) screen movement

The Microsoft WHQL approved Nvidia 12.41 with auto-installer install like a breeze. Windows hardware quality labs (WHQL) approved drivers do not usually allow disabling of vertical sync which anyhow would not provide a performance boost with a fast Nvidia card. Just uninstall old drivers, cut power, remove old card and plug in new Nvidia card, reboot in VGA, and double click the auto-installer.

    Alternatives to SB Live!

Voyetra Turtle Beach (VTB) Santa Cruz and the VideoLogic SonicFury are identical from a hardware perspective. What differs is the name, the bundle and the distribution. Turtle Beach and VideoLogic have agreed to a cross-distribution alliance. Turtle Beach will distribute five models of VideoLogic speakers in North America, while VideoLogic will distribute the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz™ audio accelerator in Europe and Australia. Just like in Directsound benchmarks the Live completely freezes the game for several seconds every now and then but is faster when it’s working. Until Creative fixes these errors (maybe in their last driver set) it’s no question that the Santa Cruz/SonicFury offers a better experience in Windows 2000. http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/reviews/SonicFury/SonicFury.html
  23. Sufficiency of electrical power might be a relevant factor. I understand power is allocated for a limited amount to Usb and then shared between the usb outlets. With Intellimouse Explorer on Usb port 2 sharing with Lexmark printer on Usb port 1 whether online or offline, either the mouse alone or the whole computer locks up two or three times a day. Once the mouse is plugged on isolated USB 5, that does not happen. Logitech Wingman always works in USB port 2, tied to the Lexmark printer, perhaps because it uses only 40 % the electrical power needed by the mouse. Check the Power Tab of Generic USB Hub, in the Universal Serial Bus Devices line of Device Manager, to see the electrical allocation. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q242/0/62.asp This site offers a lot of information on USB: http://www.usbman.com/

    Windows 2000 SP 2 grrrrrrr

That last problems was to be solved by SP2 itself. The installation problem may be tied to ACPI remaining enabled in the Bios and Windows being installed as Standard PC or just the reverse. A new OS installation could fail and an upgrade does not work because Windows 2000 uses a separate Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for ACPI support located in a different Ntoskrnl.exe: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/...amp;SPR=WIN2000 Microsoft offers this explanation in "How to Troubleshoot Windows 2000 Hardware Abstraction Layer Issues": "WARNING: Note that you should not attempt to change from an ACPI HAL to a standard HAL or from a standard HAL to a ACPI HAL under any circumstances. Doing so will result in your computer not starting properly or at all. This occurs because the Plug and Play device tree that would be currently loaded is for ACPI, and it does not get reconstructed or revert to a standard HAL Plug and Play device tree. Because of this (the device tree structures being drastically different), the system is unaware of any hardware changes after the computer restarts to include the location of the boot device." In simple words: the hardware abstraction layer being different must use the different ntoskrnl.exe that is not provided on your hard disk. Hence the error messages and the lockups. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q237/5/56.ASP

    Adaptec 4.02 EZCD Creator Problems

That is a part of the answer. Similar problems appear after Microsoft Media Player 7 and later version are installed. The Fraunhofer IIs codec is then installed. CD-RW prgrams also become unusable because of the Adaptec-Roxio CD-R plugin installed as part of MP 7.
