I had this problem with a nvidia TNT2 ultra on a athlon 1.1ghz , if you have a nvidia card use the 6.62 WHQL reference drivers found here. http://www.pcbase.de/downloads/nvidia/detonator_w2k_662_whql.exe

In windows 2000 i have the option so if i press my case power button it turns off my PC. when i do this the pc shuts down it closes all apps, then says "windows is sutting down", then turns off. This seems to be missing a part, when i select shut down in the start menu is comes up with "saving user settings", i say this is a problem because it doesn't save any icon positions and more importantly it has corrupted my profile a couple of times. As i say everything works fine when i select it from the start menu. I also have problems with hibernation but would like to get this sorted first. Thanks Tom P.S. i have a enermax 330 Watt PSU.

My BIOS is fully ACPI compliant.

So why have this option in win200 if it was never going to work as the BIOS overridded it? Tom

should i get an abit kt7-raid or the asus a7v which is more stable, which is a better performer and which is more compatible. I have a creative Dxr3, SB Live, Hauppauge WinTv card, Creative TNT2U. I did have a kt7-raid but it locked up every so often so i sent it back and am wondering if i should get another or the asus. Many thanks in advance. tom

ok thanks for your help. Can anyone confirm this is OK with a 1.1ghz thunderbird with all my stuff. Cheers Tom

If not does anyone know of anyother PSU's witht the same air intake above the CPU and fan pushing the air out of the case, like this has http://www.enermax.com.tw/products/eg-351p-ve.htm that will work ok with my system (see above). thanks Tom

I have bought a kt7raid motherboard and 1.1ghz athlon, i have put all my cards in, SBlive, Netgear NIC, TNT2Ultra (AGP), Hauppauge wintv and dxr3. in the bios boot screen it shows them all having different IRQ's (with the odd couple sharing) but when i boot into windows 2000 they all use IRQ 7, i was having problems with crashes, so i would like to get them not using the same IRQ if possible. I have tried moving the cards around but they just use the same IRQ. Thanks Tom

Right i have kept the temp down and it is still locking up this time with the temp around 34 deg c. has anyone any other ideas of what it could be.
-
OK so i have move my system to another case which has alot more space, the temperature dropped to about 40 deg, under load it went up to 59 deg, one crash but i moved the second hard drive from the second channel of the highpoint controller to a slave of the first channel (i read this was a problem), this seems to have stopped any of those crashes, i installed seti at home, now my system temp is idle (well with set running all the time) of 62-64 deg (with case done up it was about 60 without the cover on), no crashes yet (cross fingers), is this temp OK. what else can i do to cool it (is my heat sink OK see above) i have a fan at the front blowing air into the case (there is no more room for other fans). Thanks for all your help so far. Toby - i havn't touched any setting to do with the memory, i have some PC133 ram installed this is from my p3-450 system and i have had it running for about 6 months with no probs. Thanks for you input any other ideas.

~Aragorn~ - I have a cooler master (el cheepo) DP5-6H51 link - <A HREF="http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6h51.html'>http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6h51.htmlLink" TARGET=_blank>http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6h51.htmlLink</A> it says it is for a 1.2Ghz Athlon, the only prob is my PSU is directly above the CPU, do you recomend getting a new case? could this also cause corruption?
