3dfx dying is like a part of me dying. I started out with the original Voodoo when it came out (my bro worked for 3dfx at the time), moved up to Voodoo2, then Voodoo3, and now Voodoo5. The drivers have always been top quality to me (try to alt-tab from quake on a geforce)and I've never had any problems. When I first found out about their aquisition, I was heartbroken...by nVidia?? come on...thats as bad as Aureal getting bought out by Creative. They are arch-rivals...enemies at heart...Like wolverine and sabertooth. For those of you who say "well look at how slow voodoo5 is", keep in mind its a year late! The V5 is faster than the gf1, but not as fast as the 2, but it was due out before the g1....so bad management was their downfall, not the engineers..just like S3. (well in S3's case, they had bad both). If they werent run by idiots, we would have voodoo5-6000(which runs q3 at 16x12 at 60fps) around the time gf2 came out, and rampage by now...in an alternate, happy universe, 3dfx would still dominate -oXide you know my systems specs already =)

I dont get it. Whats up with my system? Its so damn dope. Rock Solid, my friends computers look up to it, heck, even my other copmuters look up to it....let me throw it down for you like this...but be forwarned; dont druel on your keyboard... We can start out with the foundation: -Asus CUSL2 Motherboard. (that means i815 supporting) -P3-700..rather weak but clocked to 1Ghz..rock solid (cooled with Hedgehog Pure Copper) -512 Megs of 133Mhz RAM (thats Micron) Daughter cards: -Voodoo5 (sure its not as fast as a gf2, but F* nvidia) -Adaptec 29160N Ultra160 controller (thats dual channel) -Abit ATA/100 RAID controller (for my storage needs) -Intel LAN card (to share my power with the world) -SBLive! Mp3 (they are all the same anyway) and damn...i wont even mention my 15000rpm harddrive. The rest of it you guys cant handle...ata/100 RAID array for storage?? I'll just leave it at that...And the best part is, I paid for like not even half of this **** ..those of you who live In the bayarea can second that (at least if you know people). *cough 21" monitor *cough*cough -oXide BOW TO ME

700's are the magic proccessors to overclock. They run at 100mhz FSB which makes it more possible to OC (as opposed to a 133FSB becuase you have more room to OC your mem), and they have the highest multiplier at 7x....you should return that thing and get a 700 and clock it to 1000 no prob like me -oXide

HAHAH...OK. I made my initial post knowing that I would piss off alot of people. I've been posting and replying here for a while and I know this is a real community of people out to help eachother....not like plantquake forums. I admit, I respect this forum and I even have it bookmarked...but come on...twas a joke =) Look back at any of my previous posts, and I blend right in =) -oXide ps...not joking about CS
-
hahaha! If any of you have seen any of my previous posts, you'd know I am usually a repsectable, intelligent part of this established community...i just thought I'd have some fun thats all, and it seems to have worked....but come on now...i have a 15000rpm drive =) -oXide

you want to play you f-ing puss? feel free to drop me a line or IM me at volcom7@aol.com. I am not affriad of your challenge, its just that I dont have time to deal with bullsh*t..i have school and work full time and for me squeeze in an *** -whooping isnt the most convientent thing. But since you think you're such a bad a$$ we will see. -oXide, b*tch ps...and who is pathetic? I am just having a little fun on a messageboard that I highly respect...YOU are the one who is taking everything I say to heart. Maybe you should go out and get a life outside this board. The fact that you are truly angered by my CS comment only proves that you are the one who is pathetic, b*tch [This message has been edited by oXide (edited 29 January 2001).]

See...you guys hated me at first...but indirectly, I am helping you...Everyone wants to show off their systems, and I have given you a way to vent your ego. You may not realize it now, but one day when one of your friends who didnt post their systems dies of over-modesty, you will say "thank you oXide, you really do possess the big X." -oXide ps...everyone knows CS is for pussies; thats a given like the integral of a derivative. HAHA! I can tell already that you're a puss becuase you play CS...CS is a game for pussies. I've talked to CS players and they say they dont like Quake "because you cant kide behind boxes" ...HAHAHA!! That translates into "because you cant camp." Thats all CS is. More ppl play CS than quake because quake takes a drop of skill. Anyone can be good at CS. puss. Go upgrade your system or something. I am prob pushing more mhz out of my palm pilot (wish i also got for free) -oXide, *****

nice...scsi, i like.

Who gives a flying F?? If you paid for all that sh*t then you're just an idiot...what do you do on it...play mp3s?? I paid like $400 for all this stuff and the equipment just keeps rolling in...dont even get me started on this RAMBUS based, p4 system I am buiding... Besides...Nessesary Evil cant hang with my Stargate. IDE??? Puleeze. Maybe back in 386 days when I was a kid. 256 megs? I have a 256 module I use as a paperwight. You posting your system setup only helps my argument.... BOW TO ME ps...i dont need to mention BS like my printer. You guys wouldnt want me to even start with the rest. oXide [This message has been edited by oXide (edited 27 January 2001).]

I am overclocking my cpu hardcore....700-1000ghz. I got an "aftermarket" heatsink for it and under a full load, the cpu heats up to 40-41C....is this hot?
-
Cool. Thanks for all the replies...I have a copper hedgehog with sunon fan...It seems to cool like crazy now that i've turn the fan around so it blows onto the heatsink, rather than sucks out....8c idle, and 35 full load.. But thanks -oXide{ i815 p3-700 (clocked to 1ghz) 512MB ultra160 boot dual ata/66 RAID storage win2k voodoo5 }; ps...3dfx for life
-
Hm....I turned the fan around to blow into the heatsink, and now it runs at 36/96 at full load. nice...i like -oXide
-
not bad huh...what would be hot? At which temp should i worry? 110? 115?
-
Ok....I've set up an array of 2 ata/66 drives set at raid-0....But now these drives dont operate in low lowermode...ie when my system goes to standby, these drives dont shutdown. How can i resolve this problem?? I am using an abit hotrod card btw (and i live in CA so i need them to shutoff) -oXide{ p3-700 (clocked at 1000) i815 ultra160 boot win2k 384MB Voodoo 5 }; ps....3dfx for life
-
I have two ata/66 harddrives and I want to "raid" them together to make a super drive (for storage, as I have ultra160 serving as the boot device). If i get an ata/66 raid controller, I feel this would be inadequete and would not let me get the full performance possible...I feel this way becuase I think the drives already go about 35megs/sec and together, that would exceed the rated 66megs/sec.....so if I want to get an array consisting of 2 ata/66 drives, I need to get an ata/100 card?? I feel this is true, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong. -oXide{ p3-700 (clocked to 1000) 320megs Voodoo5 ultra160 win2k }; ps..3dfx for life
-
How will this array of ata/66 drives compare to my ultra160????
-
What makes this Promise controller better than the Abit one? The abit one is super cheap as well. Also, no one has touched my question as to whether or not 2 ata/66 drives working in raid would be limited by an ata/66 raid controller.....let me give you an example: ultra160 drives go at about 40meg/s...that leaves 120megs of bandwidth free on the SCSI channel....so you can have 4 drives running at raid0 and obtain optimal performance...If you put on 5 drives, then all drives would not be able to run at 40megs/sec...Is this true for ata? What if I have 2 highend ata drives (if such a thing exists=), that do 40megs/sec and put them on a raid/66 controller....then will each drive be limited to 33megs/sec? -oXide
-
I have extra ide drives and my ata controller on my mobo is getting screwy anyway...so why not. if life was perfect, i would by more ultra160 drives but they are hella expensive -oX
-
my question, if you read it, is whether or not i should get an ata/100 raid controller, or an ata/66 controller -oXide
-
There is a certain problem i get when copying files over from my SCSI drive to my ata/66 drive. It seems to copy in "bursts". By this i mean, it will copy a little bit, the system will pause for second (in which case i cannot do anything), then it will continue coppying...The bigger the files the more times it will do this. What is going on? It is pissing me off. -oXide { win2k w/ dx8 i815, p3-700: clocked to 980 via 140mhz bus 192 megs RAM adaptec 2940UW SCSI Card (ultra wide) onboard ata/100 controler };

come on....where are all you hardware geeks.
