this could be because of many things.. [/obvious] one thing that stands out at me is the difference in resolutions. if you have a digital monitor, chances are it'll remember settings for many resolutions. try running half life in 1024x768, if that doesnt work, then go into advanced options in display properties (windows) and you should have some gamma options. well... i have the following: AMD K6-2 450Mhz @ 450Mhz ASUS P5A-B mobo 100Mhz bus (Ali Chipset) nVIdia riva TNT2 M64 128Mib PC100 RAM Ensoniq PCI Audio IBM Maxtor 4Gig HD Microsoft Sidewinder Game Voice Intellimouse Explorer 48X CyberDrive CDROM Motorola SurfBoard 1300 Cable Modem This may seem like, and indeed is, a pretty **** rig, but i discovered that oh, hmm, wait a minute, YOU DONT NEED A 4Ghz CPU TO PLAY GAMES FAST. If you Lamers who cant tune a system feel the need to spend £20000 on a Ninja Spec PC then go ahead. With my moderate spec i manage to get 40-60 fps in TFC, and 30-55 fps in CS. i know of people with Athlon 800's + GeForceMX's that dont get that. And before you say "oh my games look sooooo good", well my gaming res is 1024x768, with no programs to lower visual quality. and btw 0xide, why do you feel the need to brag about ure PC? Just be happy with it and let others be happy with theirs. Out. -David Newbould

The reason for this post is to say that basically, something MUST be done to stop this happening. If anyone has ANY ideas/suggestions on how to raise some $$$ quick - post in here please. Thats all from me for now. -David Newbould AKA [PCF]DeStRoYeR

Yeah!! and in referrence to ppl on this board not liking me - wtf? if i have offended/upset anyone then, erm, im sorry? i didnt realise...... (???) anyway, if anyone has contacts with big companies or anything, let us know -
i installed SP1 a while back and upon rebooting, it would not get past "initiating networking protocols" or something. (cant remember the EXACT words) it just wouldnt go past it. So i tried booting in with safe mode but still to no avail, it would just sit at the login screen for hours and not actually boot into desktop environment. Im just wondering, that if i install SP1 again, will the same thing happen? Last time i had to format to get it back... sys specs btw: AMD K6-2 450Mhz @ 450Mhz ASUS P5A-B mobo 100Mhz bus (Ali Chipset) nVIdia riva TNT2 M64 128Mib PC100 RAM Ensoniq PCI Audio IBM Maxtor 4Gig HD Microsoft Sidewinder Game Voice Intellimouse Explorer 48X CyberDrive CDROM Motorola SurfBoard 1300 -Software Version: SB3100-3.2.6-SCM-NOSHELL Hardware Version: 2 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.3 Heres my software setup: C: partition - "BOOT" - 200Mib - FAT D: partition - "Win98" - 1600Mib - FAT32 E: partition - "Win2k" - 2200Mib - NTFS c: is obviously the boot partition. ok, im back. arent u all glad. heres my current setup: AMD K6-2 450Mhz @ 450Mhz ASUS P5A-B mobo 100Mhz bus (Ali Chipset) nVIdia riva TNT2 M64 128Mib PC100 RAM Ensoniq PCI Audio IBM Maxtor 4Gig HD Microsoft Sidewinder Game Voice Intellimouse Explorer 48X CyberDrive CDROM Motorola SurfBoard 1300 -Software Version: SB3100-3.2.6-SCM-NOSHELL Hardware Version: 2 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.3 Heres my software setup: C: partition - "BOOT" - 200Mib - FAT D: partition - "Win98" - 1600Mib - FAT32 E: partition - "Win2k" - 2200Mib - NTFS c: is obviously the boot partition. D: has windows 98 SE installed, and is used primarily for games. E: has windows 2000 professional installed, and is used for web design, etc. Win98 setup: Gfx drivers - Detonator2 5.32 (6.xx made for GeForce's) AGP drivers version 1.69 Directx8 ver. 4.08.00.0400 Vsync is always off. Games resolution - 1024x768x16 --------- now. i realise that win2k is very stable, which i havve always said, and now use it for serious work, web design, word processing etc. and have left the win98se partition free of most programs, bare minimum, so that the registry etc does not get clogged over time and it grinds to a halt after the 800th program has been installed and uninstalled. my conclusion: win2k - great for work, looks good, very stable, takes its time though. win98 - looks average, pretty unstable, fast for gaming on my setup. -David -

*sigh* for those of you among us who didnt fully understand what i was trying to get across is that, yes, this was an attempt to bring humour to this board. so no, im not asking anything, im just.......oh forget it -
ive had this problem also, its definetely down to the rip. i had mission2mars II on divx, and one played smoothly, while the other rip had this problem. get a new rip

the win2k memory management is pretty good, and it IS really smart looking, while alse being very stable. but on a lower end machine, it is slow. unless u got 128+Meg ram, dont bother. im a gamer, so i have win2k and win98SE running on a dual boot. i recommend this setup, as u can keep win98 uncluttered by only installing the basics, things esential for games, but still be able to work on ure pc, with win2k my specs are: AMD K6-2 450Mhz @ 450 128Mb PC100 RAM ASUS P5A-B mobo 100Mhz bus nVIdia riva TNT2 M64 Creative Ensoniq PCI Audio IBM Maxtor 4Gig HDD Intellimouse Explorer Microsoft Sidewinder Game Voice i get about 50fps in half life, which i dont think is too bad, considering the spec. opinions ?

FFS - wanting to dual boot, win2k is installed, how to insta
DavidNewbould posted a topic in Software
right, basically : games wont work in win2k, so i want to install win98 heres my setup a 3gig partition - c: NTFS a 1gig partition - d: FAT32 how do i install win98 note - im a tight fisted git, so unless u got a crack/serial, DONT MENTION PARTITIONMAGIC -
I have thought a lot about the 3dfx vs nVidia war and have come up with this conclusion: 3dfx make absolutely excellent glide drivers and Glide is very nice indeed, with very few problems, BUT the sheer power and speed of nVidia make it top dog. I upgraded from my Voodoo Banshee to a TNT2 M64 and haven't regretted it. ------------------ Life is a [censored]ually Transmitted disease with a 100% mortality rate.

Well, I have windows 2000 running on a 386 with 256Kb of RAM and i installed it with 624 floopies and it took 72 hours but its worth it cos now its even slower than it could be. oh and i quote: "it won't be as fast as running with 98" -remember mods its a quote not a statement of my opinion so dont ban me (again).
